You end up needing to grab inspiration to handle the energy side of things, which at the same time limits your ability to use other attributes. Illusion mesmers DO destroy warriors quite nicely though - Ineptitude/Clumsiness/Phantom/Spirit of Failure/Conjure and they don't last long at all, plus you keep your energy up.
When you throw in inspiration you can gain some "advantage" against casters, though it is limited it is still there to annoy. I agree Illusion has poor energy control, though I don't see that as being the reason for it not being used; not saying you do either. In RA or TA mesmers that I have played against or with have been in the dom line either because they believe mesmers' sol purpose is to shut down casters or... sadly... because they like big numbers. Also the illusion line is very underestimated by many people and the skill selection is smaller than that of Domination; adding some limitation.

Also in PvE mesmers do not gain much by playing well, trying to find a pug will be difficult even if you are the best mesmer ever... so just stick with guilds :P

[QUOTE=Epinephrine]Few people play illusion mesmers, and the biggest problem I find with illusion is that it doesn't manage energy very well (and deals poorly with casters).

I often bring a few skills from the illusion line because they can be so effective against warriors, but I usually also take migrane just to put a little extra hurt on anyone who uses spells (as a bonus it makes it childs play to interrupt if they take 100% (!!!) longer to cast spells).

My first and most loved character is a Me/E (I love it so much that when I made a Warrior the second had to be Me). Point is that I love this profession, BUT I do catch a lot of grief from others, my team and opposing team.

I have found that I get much more respect playing my W/Me with a full load of interupts (Dwarven battle stance, leech, power drain, etc) than I ever have with my Me/E. I often have people saying "Who the $&%@ pulled off all those interupts? LMAO! That ______ never got a single skill off!"

On the other hand if I am in group/team where the monk is willing to spare me a few heals, my illusion/fire mesmer can really keep an opposing team/horde of monsters from wiping the floor with us. An example is last night I finished Thunderhead Keep (again to help out a friend) with only 6 team members - tank and healer both dropped out after we started. Our prot monk still helped keep me alive and I helped him by pulling hexes off our teammates when I could. Even though we only had 6 members it was nearly a cake walk the whole time and we had myself (me/e) and a illusion based Necro/Me. We both put the hurt on with all our illusion magic. I know that it was only monsters that we were fighting, but I have had similar experiences in team/comp arenas.

I know that rambled a bit, but give some of those illusion spells a try. They can really work over an opposing team.

I am not so sure the illusion line is underrated. If I want to kill warriors and rangers, I go into illusion magic because no other mesmer line has so many different and useful ways to destroy those classes. But the same holds true for domination magic against caster classes. Yes, I cannot slow down the casting speed of their spells with illusion magic. However, domination provides diverse ways to shut down casters, while the illusion line is slow down casting speed to interrupt or pretty much nothing shutdown wise. You could still kill the caster with large degeneration.

Sure. Take a Me/Mo, add the invinci-monk skills, and add illusionary weaponry When (if) I figure out a way to make an invinci-mesmer with pure or almost-pure mesmer skills, I'll post it up, but with the low armor, no skills to reduce damage to a great enough extent, and no good self healing. . .I have a bit of a roadblock. *eagerly awaits chapter two and new mesmer skills*

I currently run a Me/E designed for anti-warrior. Earth works well at taking down Warriors and they usually target me first if my CA team doesn't have a monk. Domination can work well dealing with casters, while obsiden flame spamming takes out the warriors.

I absolutely despise Domination mesmers.
Yes, I hate them.
That's not to say I don't respect them and wouldn't value them if they were a contributive member of my team, or that I wouldn't choose them (THAT would be a mistake in plenty of cases).

Mesmers and necromancers fall into the same category of 'underappreciated', yes it's sad, but look on the bright side...
um...
hold on let me think of a bright side...

Got one:
There aren't countless hundreds of you running around promoting the idea that not only are you worthless, but you're noobish as well.

Yeah, that's as good as it's gonna get for the moment.

Oh, and a rank 3 necro will still get turned down for a W/R who has no fame whatsoever half the time -- for that is the way GW is currently x.x

I know, sucks doesn't it? Just think: when GW II comes out you'll be completely ignored over the assassins!

Ristaron, you hate being on the other side of a domination mesmer or is there a reason you don't like them on your team? If it's the second, care to share so I know where to improve?

I don't know why people don't like mesmers and necros, my last searing with 2 mesmers was 9-0, we we were throw ing hexes at everthing that moved, they didn't even get close to us. My necro was 11-1, with me being the only thing that died. A hex ingores all armor.

I think it really just depends upon where you are. I've been doing the Fire Islands missions for fun and XP farming with my main mesmer. I've gotten a number of blind invites, and invites after I've advertised myself as a "(Masochistic) Shutdown/Interrupt Mesmer LFG."

The most shocking thing so far, is three groups in a row at Thunderhead Keep asking for mesmers that I saw the other night. Unfortunately, I didn't have one to spare at the time, and there was only one mesmer in the entire district.

Mesmers ... never around when you actually need them either.
