New chest farming method [MERGED]

what Anet has done will surely get rid a of a lot of Botters, because there is now no reason to use bots since everything pretty much comes easy. Plus I hope that people who buy guild wars items off ebay will think twice before doing so.

i finally got a staff with +speed/+recharge on all skills at 9% after playing for forever now, definitely nice for us pvp'ers to have a chance to get nice items when we only have 3-4 plat at a time

Since the new update I've invested about 30k in chest keys for different areas of the game, mostly shiverpeaks, but also in the desert areas. The funny thing is I actually found myself going back to repeat missions with random PUG's just to chest farm. I actually enjoyed doing the desert missions again that are required to ascend because a-net scattered just enough chests along the way to keep people in a group. The Thirsty river mission is a great example, There were chests in almost every room that required your team to kill a priest, thus increasing my incentive to stay and help the group complete the mission even though I had already done it before. I'm not one to leave a group anyway, but I know its a trend when people join groups to skill cap in missions then drop the group once they got there skill leaving the group possibly die and not complete the mission. I don't know if this was a-nets intention, but it's really a win win situation that promotes team play. Has anyone else noticed this since the update?

you can run through the missions alone if all you want is the chest....

Actually, the Thirsty river mission would be impossible to run solo, you have to keep the ghost alive. There are a lot of chests in that mission. More than you could find outside of a mission in a short period of time. Unless of course you are running that same chest over and over again to farm, but how boring is that after the first 20 times.

that's the point of chest farming...it's no more boring than repeating the same lackluster mission that require zero thought....and it's not going to increase the chances of your "uber" weapon dropping if you go to multiple different chests.

Well, it's just me I guess....lol. I was just trying new things. However, you bring up a good point. I think it would be a smart move on a-nets part to increase the chances of your "uber" weapon dropping if you go on a mission with a party. example: A % chance of an "uber" item dropping increases the farther your team progresses in the mission. That would really give alot of people the incentive to play in teams instead of soloing.

Woo.. but if chest farming encourages even one player to help others complete missions they havent yet completed and see it through, it might be the best update ever. You can make it at least 2. I also enjoy helping others and picking up random things along the way. Better to help people out instead of doing the same exact thing alone. Wish I found more PUGs like that. *cheers OP.

I would really love to do some chest farming in sorrows furnace tonight if I can just get a decent group that doesn't quit. One of my guild mates and I had the pleasure (sarcasm) of creating a decent group in the war camp last night to go farming for green items and chests in the furnace. To our dismay we had at least 2 people drop from every group we put together after about the first 10 minutes of farming and exploring. I know we could just get the hences and do it easier, but its just not as much fun as doing it with a good group. Maybe we'll have better luck tonight
