[MERGED] Farming with Henchmen
B3H
I went on a couple runs with just hench only. I racked up 3 green items. Later I went with a friend and a hench and I was lucky to get another one.
So far I have 4 green items. Havent gone on any runs today though...

I got so fed up of trying to get greens with my monk, i switched to my ranger and literally 30 seconds ago, on my first run, i got a flints artifact. Energy +12 req 9 water. Water magic +1 20% chance, skill recharge using water magic 20%.
This was with a FULL group of henchmen. I also got a superior energy storage.
Is it my monk? I will keep you posted on my own progress.
I hope it wasn't a fluke, lol.

[QUOTE=Plague]When I'm with a player only group, however, I will at least usually see one, maybe two drops.

and that is your problem.
YOU SAW ONE OR TWO DROP BECAUSE ALL PEOPLES DROPS SHOW.
WERE YOU AWARE THAT YOU DO NOT SEE DROPS HENCHMEN GET?
they did that so you wouldnt see thom get that felblade while you got that healing junk
just because you dont see a drop doesnt mean the drop rate is nerfed by henchies it just means you have a string of bad luck

I went with 4 henchmen about...let's say 25 times, didn't get one.

Was funny too, because on that run, I got a TON of great stuff - way more than I normally get - and he kept getting stuff like plain near-max Raven Staffs ;P
When that green dropped there was some nasty stuff coming through on Skype, let me tell you! What's been with all the Raven Staves anyways? I'd only ever seen one drop before the patch, and that was in either FoW or UW, and since I've seen AT LEAST 50 drop in about six hours' play.

Ravens Staffs drops a plenty all over southern shoverpeaks - you havn't farmed the troll cave I take it?

Loviatar: In my hench group, there are only two henchmen. Having two henchmen should not make even SEEING a drop (for yourself or your warrior friend) impossible. That is my point. The two monk henches should not be devouring every single green item drop in a dozen runs. The odds do not favor it, as far as A.Net claims go.
Pandora's box
Being lucky or just having bad luck, statistics dont lie. You can be lucky and find 2 greens in one run, or being unlucky and don't find anything in 5 runs, but after 50 runs it should be equalized. If that's not so than something is wrong. Which makes me wonder anyway what Anet intended with this. They always try to disencourage farming and now we have a whole new area where players *must* grind the same map to find what they like.
P1atinumGQ
If you guys think 50 runs without a green item is just bad luck then you're all ignorant. People who play with henchies that get green items are plain lucky, that's all. I'm almost 100% sure there's something wrong with their item distribution algorithm here when henchies are in your party.
Frank The Tank
I also think the drops are rigged with henchies. I tried to farm the bosses with a full team of henchies, and nothing (literally killed 20+). When I brought the same group of henchies and one guildie, I got the mesmer staff. He had to leave, went full henchies again and nothing drops (another 20+ kills).

I am 100% sure;
I think it has been this way with henches all along, now with green items it is just a hell of a lot more prevalent.
I have probably killed easily over 150 bosses with henches in the last 3 days inside and outside. I clear the ones outside, kill as many as I can inside, when my DP gets to max I go back outside try to get rid of some ( easier outside to kill) then go back inside if I can't I port back to town and start over.
After three days I now have 2 green items both I got from grouping with humans a few times.

I've done a little experiment which i would like to share with you.
I went on three trips with henchmen. The first trip was with 7 henchmen (full team), the second was with 6 henchmen and the last was with just three henchmen.
During each trip, i took a random screenshot of the chat box showing what i had collected at any given point.
Trip 1
7 henchmen
7 unimportant item drops
19 piles of gold
Trip 2
6 henchmen
8 unimportant item drops
14 piles of gold
Trip 3
3 henchmen
8 unimportant item drops
12 piles of gold
Anyone see the pattern?
The more henchmen in the group, the more gold is dropped (to make sure you always get a particular gold average). So, we take less henchmen in the hope of getting more stuff but it makes no difference.
Item drops stay relatively constant.
Why then, do the majority of players seem to get MORE green drops when playing with people but you can play all week long and not see any with henchmen? My short experiment indicates that item drops remain relatively constant.
It is not bad luck and i shall not be pacified by such statements. No, i am not being ignorant, i am just beside myself with disbelief as how i can play for 4 days with henchmen (literally) and see one green drop but have got TWO greens during the two hours or so i spent in PUG's.
The players who choose to take henchmen and get away from the idiots are being persecuted! Why?
Gaile Gray, if you read this....any comments?

I had some time and did some experimenting yesterday with 8 man (me and 7 Henchmen) farming in GF. I went through the area 5 times over the course of the day and meticulously slew all adversaries. Each time I killed all six bosses and opened all five chests. Here are some approximate averages from the things I kept track of:
Elapsed Time - 1:25
EXP gain - 5,100
Coin Drops - 800ish
Coin from item sales - 2500
Total coinage - 3300ish
Key Cost - 3000
Net After Expenses - 300ish
Average Item Drops Per Type:
Green - 0
Gold - 1
Purple - 3
Blue - 4
White - 12
Collector - 8
Dyes/Keys/ExpScrolls - 1
Runes - 1
Total Items From Bosses:
Blue Slayers Scroll
White Holy Staff
3 Enslavement Stones
White Water Staff
White Air Wand
Gold Slayers Scroll
White Summit Hammer
Identify Charges Used - 8
Remember, these are average numbers based on five total clearings of Grenth's Footprint only. I also did not factor in the cost of an ID kit every 3 or so runs. Also keep in mind that I did not try to sell any of the items I found to other people...they were all sold to the Merchant in the War Camp for the listed price. I probably could have sold several of the items I got on the open market for much more than what the merchant would give me.
Now, I have also gone through the area extensively with human parties ranging from 4 person to 8 person teams. In approximately 20 excursions I've seen an average of one Green item per run with the other items roughly the same drop frequency as above.
The human parties were much less consistent when it came to clearing the area, killing all six bosses and opening all 6 chests, however. Sometimes we only killed one or two bosses and got 3 Greens and sometimes we killed all six and only got some of the other, random schwag that's on their loot tables.
I have personally been awarded 4 Green items so far but only while in groups composed of other players.
Anyways, that's what I've found so far...I'm interested in farming SF a bit to see what the drops are like in there...I'm betting the average frequency is about the same.
Does this prove anything? Not really but i've suspected for a long time (since before the Kryta Lightning Drake drops were nerfed) that partying with just henchmen reduces the probability of you getting rare drops. I've experienced it in several of the areas I've farmed (or tried farming) and if you were to ask me, I'd say that, more often than not, henchmen get the lucky end of the loot stick when it comes to random, rare drops but I think it's been happening all along...Green items just make it a bit more noticeable.
Thanks,
Miyamoto Tzu

i went on a 4 man run to farm greens and killed 8 bosses and only got a gold armor... its not a 30% chance of dropping green
TGgold
30% divided by 4 people= 7.5% chance of dropping the green item to you.
Just thought you should realise that as well. : )

This game sucks. And they people who run this site suck. If you don't post something positive they delete your post, like a bunch of Nazis.
Think I will put my game and both accounts up on E-bay. The drops suck and the makers of this game suck they are going to run people off in droves.
See YA, can't wait for something new but not from this crew. They got 100 bucks from me but no more.
I don't get crap in drops and have deleted 3 characters that I've finished the game with. I have one yellow hammer I kept and one yellow axe plus a shaddow axe and that's it. Hell I've never got a max fiery sword had to buy one. I've played 100s of hours at one time I had 7 level 20 characters.
This game is highly unfair, Scorpion boy says he got 4 green drops I've never seen anything green no ones even shown me something green. Kiss my butt GuildWars.

I brought all henchmen and scored 2 green items from one boss. That's about it, henchies are probably rolling in theirs though.
Nikos Battlehammer
I got a green item when I was AFK and the henchies aggroed a mob
Orvix Thang
Anecdotal and I haven't been where green stuff drops but it seems as I clear a zone in the desert, i.e. less mobs exist in the zone, I get more and more drops, the first few mobs I kill upon zone-in hardly drop anything but towards the end if I'm killing the zone and not just fighting through something drops almost every battle.
Could it be that with PUGS a higher percent of mobs are being killed before the bosses so the drop % on the bosses is higher? Could the drop odds change for the better as more mobs are killed and less exist in a zone? I mean the odds of anything dropping not of any particular type as that may be stable. Could people be ignoring lots of mobs now that they know the zone and running for the bosses when they have a low drop %. Or maybe it's based on time in the zone, although that wouldn't explain the discrepancy between PUGS and henchies.
Just a guess and maybe the henchie thing is correct but I know I get better drops the more I kill which also equates to more time spent in a zone.

Aera Lure
Possibly its a time in the zone thing, but then I should just idle there while I drink my coffee. My luck wouldnt be any worse. ^^ Over 100 boss kills now with a henchman group of 3-4 henchmen and myself, and not one green. Drops were so-so enough that I also had to stop using keys. I admit its fun in there anyway. I have to assume as with some earlier conjectures that running with henchmen is inherently detrimental.
KainShadow
Well statistically i got the same amount of Greens for run with 2 henchs and with 5-6
but i'll not farm anymore... I have my Drago's Flatbow , this is enough for me

Snowman
personally I dont see the problem with not getting green drops.
lets say everyone here got green items at the same rate as everyone else with just henchies then they would de-value enourmously!
The amount of GOLD drops now seems to be insane.. and.. as if by miracle they dont seem to get anywhere near the value they used to.
Gold items are now common place, purple is okay for getting materials, whites you may as well leave behind.. not worth the expert salvage, and not worth taking along a normal salvage kit for them.
Farming seems to be nessesary for gaining gold in the game, but I think the green items are sought after for their uses in PVP, not for their gold value. Even if you did sell one for the hold, chances are you will spend that cash looking to buy that perfect green for your pvp character.
either way, its only been a few days.. chill out. leave a suprise left in your life

Well, there seems to be quite a group of people (myself included) who are certain about the henchmen being thieves.
Why would this be the case? I think the biggest reason for the henchmen stealing your loot would be the FACT that henchmen are better players than the majority of people.
If you get a good player controlling the henchmen, the henchmen are basically amplifiers of that good players ability...right?
If John Noob Doe takes henchies, his team may likely die bacause he doesn't know which class to target first for example.
So, ArenaNet doesn't want every Tom, Dick and Harry using the "better" henchmen to increase their personal fortunes.
They'd much rather people group with players and all have a good share of the goodies...maybe they also know that the average PUG only lasts a matter of minutes too...thus requiring them to team up again and keep the wheels moving.
I'd love to see a labratory condition test on these forums regarding henchmen.
Maybe someone who is in a good guild with lots of time and dedication could make an investigation? That would be so cool.
I would do it myself but my guild comprises of just myself (my brother left because of the "balances"
) but my impressions and my short and average tests tell me that there is an imbalance in the henchmen system.
I would also like to see some raw data from ArenaNet, rather than some non-explanatory (and mildly patronising) dribble from GW support, but i guess that would never happen....

I sure hope others are having better luck than myself.
Well the Frog would suggest that Anet has introduced a kind of auto-nerf to subdue the farmers. I read it as meaning that drop quality is slowly reduced if you trigger it due to repeated farming.
Another suggestion is that drop quality will increase somewhat (green items anyway) if you group with another player rather than just henchies. Don't know if this is the case but I haven't seen a green item yet and I have been playing pretty much uber-hench since last week.
One matter putting me off grouping with others at the moment though is that it seems to me that there are a few connection issues been brought into play since the update. Lagging (and I mean eventual error 7 type lagging) seems to be going through a bad patch at the moment.

I was in a PUG last night, 8 humans (it also reminded me why I never monk w/ PUGs
) and after going after every boss in the the footprint and furnace I only saw 3 green drops total (2 from one boss) For the groups I've been in, the green drops have been far below 30%. I've also farmed a bit and did quests with monk + henchies and ranger + henchies but haven't seen a single green item that way.
I've heard things about monks getting fewer drops, but I've never really noticed my warror/ranger getting better drops. I'm sure there is alot of "Gambler's Fallacy" out there, but it would have been nice for anet to answer your question more directly.

Last night I joined a PUG and the first two bosses we meet, I get two green items (The Bludgeoner & Flints Wand). The 3rd boss dropped Morgriffs staff for someone else. I was ecstatic, but angry at the same time that the henchie theory is absolutely correct. Most of the time I can't commit myself to a mission for an hour straight or whatever, I take henchies most of the time so I don't have to keep people waiting if I go AFK for a few minutes or so. In almost every PUG group i've been in, someone has bailed half way through leaving us in a bad position, henchies don't bail. Players should not be penalized for taking them, some of us choose to play the game a little different.

Well, I can see where Anet going with the henchmen issue. I'm sure we have all had a situation where we have a full group of players and we didn't get one good drop, while everyone else seemed to be raking them in. Other times we do get them, I know its been that way with me anyway...
Now if you have a full team of henchmen playing with you, they are taking a good portion of the loot, they are the majority of the party. I think Anet went to far with that concept though, as I've yet to get a green drop or anything of value with henchmen. I used to just see it as them being the majority of the party so naturally I'd miss out on alot, I don't believe it as strongly anymore. Missing out on a good portion but still getting something I can deal with, missing out on everything but maybe a few white drops and some gold is too much. I agree with the poster above saying that we shouldn't be penalized for using henchmen. They added henchmen in for many reasons, some people just cant dedicate alot of time or have sporadic AFK moments.
Why is Anet screwing these people over? They still paid for the game and are playing it.

anyways you can't farm with henchies because it kills the finding rate haha lol
Igedit
In my experience, the amount of times you've been to an area far outweighs the number of henchman you have regarding drops.
The first time I did Thirtsy River w/7 henchies - Sup Vigor rune
Second trip = maybe a couple purples
Subsequent trips = whites and blues mostly
The first time though Grenths Footprint w/7 henchies - 1 Green + a few golds
Second trip = maybe a couple purples
Subsequent trips = back to whites and blues
etc.
I know this is by design, but I think it's a larger factor than the # of players involved.

Hmm...I made an exploration trip around Sorrow Furnace's entrance with 7 henchies, and got 2 green drops, 1 each from 2 bosses I found on the way. Oh...and a golden armor as well..
I guess it's really your luck...

i just got 2 greens from one boss with a group of 4 henches just to give some hope
Joe L.
I have had sort of the same hit or miss luck as well, and not just in the furnace. I went there with 7 henchmen to explore and do quests, just to kind of get the flavor of the new area? I killed something like nine bosses, and got one green drop, along with tons of normal blue, and a few purple, so I do not know whether hench have anything to do with it. (on a side note, I expert salvaged all of the drops, and and ended up making like 6k [got a ton of rare material] from all of it. But today, I saw a boss monster drop four things, and all for the same player????
Anyway, I guess you win some and you lose some. I find it hard to believe that Anet can load you with loot one day, and leave you blank the next.
Cheers

it's a game and u guys are crying over not getting this and that. stop farming and play the game, enjoy it. For all that i've played up to thristy, i've only got 3 gold items and that's it. I don't go whining all over the net, i get a
to see a rare item. Having mentioned that green items are dropped is NOT a "i should be getting how many". it's rare. This whining happens before green drops existed. imagine they brought in ANOTHER color drop.
Also arenanet doesn't have to tell you exactly how they calculate chances though they did say it's "randomly generated". Maybe it's just bad luck.
Even if they did explain totally how they calculate these chances stuff, you guys would just go grab the numbers, calculate your "expected" chances and then come back whining about the rate of drops is incorrect.

If you read this thread carefully you would notice that its about many hundreds of games. Consider throwing 100 1d6 dies. What's the chance that you won't throw any 6?

My advice; stop farming green items, just play the game. If you play the missions in sorrows you will kill plenty of bosses; going to and from the furnace and in the furnace itself. In anycase, the items from grenths have been overfarmed already, most do not sell for much.
I was doing the orozar highstone mission, with henchmen btw, and got will crusher, the mesmer domination staff (failed the mission though).
If you go out simply to farm you jut get frustrated and dissillusioned, and the game stops being fun.

On the same theme, I've noticed that going out with two of my guildmates (1 Warrior / 1 Ele) and my Ele causes the Warrior to get ALL the drops, and the Ele to get none. In my only ever farming run around the Footprint with those two, we killed all the bosses and probably everything else. I got one Gold drop and nothing else (at all), the other Ele got one white truncheon (not even max), while the Warrior enjoyed 2 green drops, 3 gold drops, countless purple and blue drops...worst of all this always seems to happen.
I went out last night with that warrior to kill some charr for a laugh. I noticed that all the Charr Carvings were coming my way, and my Warrior friend ended up with 11 Charr Hides and countless purple armours - despite the fact that I was burninating all of them before he could even GET to them. Not that I particularly care at this stage, but in terms of potential value my warrior friend probably has 1k's worth of drops there whereas I have worthless stuff.
What's the deal with warriors getting all the drops?

Oh Btw, i have noticed something when playing with henchmen. Sometimes, when you kill a boss, you can still see the weapon he was carrying in his hand, sometimes not. Perhaps in the case of the latter the weapon didn't drop (obviously); and in the case of the latter, a henchman got it. I am not sure; just a thought.

BTW - I got a green item w/ henchies last night. It was me and 5 henchies, killed around 10 bosses and got a pretty nice water staff (both +20% +5 energy +30 health)
