I've asked some pretty STUPID questions and usually never an answer. Very unhelpful in town. Thankfully guild members are very handy. We helped each other by giving gold, craft items to each other, etc.

You guys are in pre searing. Post searing things should be better.
For those in Post Searing travel to Ascalon City from time to just to help new players out.

If you are in town when I am in town and you ask a non-vague question, then I usually answer *IF* I am looking for quests, figuring out what to do next, or remember to have my chat log thingy open. However, the log seems to be spammed with emote messages so sometimes questions are just missed due to a block party going on. I sure wish there was a way to turn of emotes but what it comes down to is me not spending much time in any towns. The funny part is is that last night I was playing my monk and I had about 60% of the southern expanse (wizard's folley) explored and I only had Ashlon's warp point on my main map - that is how little I spend in towns. I never even went to the fort near WF simply because there isn't a whole lot to do in town.
BTW, if you are looking for some tough fights, try going through the snow badlands in WF (the elementals are play toys) to the end of the snow cover - there are these pack attackers called "Large Aloe Seeds" which attack on sight. Add that to their tenacity (I've run quite far away from their normal living area and they followed) to the mix for a challenge. They are actually part of some quest. Not fun - they killed me a lot. They are a team challenge MOB.

Hit the ~ key and the chat window opens up, you can turn off emotes there, and also any other channel you don't want to see.

Curious, how old are most of the people who complain about the community in any game? Is it a universal thing? Or is it just a bunch of kids who need people to hold their hands? Or is it just alot of real bad experiences? I find these types of things real confusing

I'm 22. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but one of the first things I saw when I logged into Ascalon was, and I'm dead serious here, some dude saying in all caps "OMG! SOMEBODY TOUCH MY BOOBS! ARE THEY REAL???" and it has degraded since then. It seems every time I look at chat some moron is spouting something so immature and stupid it actually makes me want to hit them, but I can't and that makes me even more pissed. I can't even leave trade on, people spam as fast as they can in all caps when they try to sell things, as if that would make me want to open a trade window with them ever in my lifetime.

But once you do join the Academy it all goes to H***. You can't complete any missions alone you have to team up. The creep/bosses are too powerful.
So, Post Searing is much better. PreSearing is just for training.

You would be suprised lol. Just wait until later when N00bs start complaining they can't get any good handout weapons from the l33t older players. Of course, that won't be too bad of a prob as the post-searing has the better weapons and there are not too many new players there.
Anyways some of the older online games turn into chat rooms sometimes. Maybe one day I'll start asking for buddies to go forth and smite the known world with me, but I'll solo for now. I just like to spend hours poking around the incredibly good looking country sides.

well...personally I play the game like I played diablo 2, Im on a mission to become powerful and find loot...to kill you with.
Heres this guy, who I may be facing in the arena a couple weeks from now, we will both have undoubtedly forgotten each other, but he wants me to take his hand, and show him where he can find salvage gear to get steel out of.
Then he gets upset because I tell him to gtfo.
This isnt everquest! get used to it!
I do feel kind of sorry for the people who bought the game just to kill AI

I have to say this: Yeah there's always gonna be 'idiots' online. But if any of you want to see an amazing online community, play Hardcore servers for Sacred. It's amazing. Luckily a fair few of the players have come over to Guild Wars, and if the GW community could take on the examples and be like that, seriously this game would stand NO competition in being the best online game ever.
*gives cheers to sacred community*
Tahts maybe why Im a lil jaded with this one; Im used to something quite different in approach. But I try to help people in town, its the only reason i leave local chat on.

However, I don't think I have ever played a MMO that was lacking helpfull and courteous ppl as much as GW does. Everytime I ask a question I can count on NOT getting an answer; I send ppl tells just so I can be ignored... I'm getting really frustrated about this and wanted to see if other ppl had this problem as well, or am I jus having a bad "In Game Day" Oh, and on a sidenote, what is up with no1 wanting to join a Guild that has only a few members yet, but it's almost impossible to get new members for that exact reason Sorry for the rant, jus needed to get it out |

there is help. that why you're here

figure it out your self, a bunch of winers that want stuff done for them, play the game through and you'll figure it out.

I might get the strat guide myself just to see what quests I've missed because I didn't talk to XYZ after doing PDQ's quest... The guide should be out next week and run $19.99.

Then again, I don't say "OMG WTF wereis teh stell guy wtf lol !!one!!"
I instead have found that if you ensure that your message is polite, contains the relevant info and so on you get a quick, correct and polite reply in return...
e.g. "I have heard that there is a parchment crafter near Ascalon - can anyone help me with direction?"
gets me back "He's right near the sanitarium - head to the old Ashford Abbey".
No complaints, while there may be many people ignoring spammed messages there are many helpful polite people as well.

well, i know what you mean... but true, most ppl I run into dont have a cluie whats going on, and that includes myself. Tho I do try to answer the questions I do know about. But if Im on and you do have a question I will try to help out... in game toons are Arrick Jr and Arrick Sr, both monks , cant wait to get to post-searing and find a good group to game with.

How about the fact that GW has an abysmal chat system It's ironic that such a well designed game has such a poor chat system with seemingly little chance for customization. That, so far, has been my biggest complaint in playing GW. Options for retntion of text, display, colors, multiple windows, etc should be in there.
Gameplay 10/10

A "Free" game tends to bring out the meanies... lol. More rift-raft than usual.
I have found the game refreshing and new. I have enjoyed it over the last two days.
