The (or at least one) Answer to Fur Squares
t00thPIK
The best i ever got was 2 fur squares out of 5 charr hides, the rest were tanned hides. This was sheer arse though, I've got no Idea how I managed it, it was just a fluke. Last time i tried I had 9 charr hides and didn't get any FS, only TH... all up I've attempted to salvage FS from about 30+ charr hides and got only 2 FS out of them all

Hey, if you look at the new guild wars updates they have planned, it says that they are going to make getting fur squares much easier.
butcherboy
I know that the materials dude in the starter area of post-searing does steel (if you have coal?) but I'll check tonight to see if he doesn't do fur. I am assuming you need fur for post-starting post-searing armor because last night I just needed tanned hide to make a set of that cool blue fur lined armor....

Item Scarcity: We are fixing problems which caused excessive scarcity for Fur Squares, Linen, and Silk. All of these will be significantly more common.
yay!!! the update is coming out later this week so hang in there.

Yey..... oh and another item i cant get is Bolt of Cloth (not raw)... where can i get this dam material? What do i use to get upgrade compenents from weapons...Normal or Expert Salvage??
ForeverGoNe
Now that they supposedly fixed the Fur Square scarcity problem... is it able to be crafted from the materials NPC or do we still keep on salvaging them with increased chances?
I saw in regent valley, a crafter can craft Linen but no fur square. If anyone can provide information on these squares, we would be much obliged.

Post-Patch:
I have been getting about 1 Fur in 3 Expert salvages of Charr Hides... I've only done about a dozen of them, so its not scientific, but it appears to have improved dramatically.

In old ascalon (post-searing) there is now a trader who will give you one fur square for 4 char hides. Last name of the girl is Sedgewick. She is the same one who would give you a belt pouch, but now you have a choice between that and a fur square. She is sort of near the materials trader.

Actually, she's in the city itself, next to one of the Merchants. Calissa Sedgewick.

Okay, I have an answer.. but it's only for people who are currently by the Ascension.
On the map between Destiny's Gorge and the Thirsty River (The mission.) there are those centaur monsters. Their manes, if dropped, have an extremely high rate on Fur squares. I salvaged three manes. Two out of three gave me furs. Three furs each. That's six furs out of three manes, baby. >_>

Dunno if this has been mentioned yet, but the collector in Ascalon (post-searing) will trade four or five Charr hides for a fur square now, as well as the regular item (belt puch, I think?).

I got a salvage kit and I can't salvage anything... Im confused.
Pevil Lihatuh
you have to double click the kit, then target the item. If the item was a quest reward or from a collector however, it will say it cannot be salvaged. The same if it is already a crafting material (i.e. Wood Planks)
bwzman
I reccommend by the time you get to kryta, or borlis pass, ONLY use expert salvage kits, they pay for themselves.
relientK_fan
Okay, since the huge patch, how do you get fur squares? Is it still expert salvage kit only? Or can you get it with normals? And does it always have to be Charr hides to get fur?
shanksk8
you could just take 4 charr hides to ascalon city and give them to the collector for a fur square.
Pevil Lihatuh
Expert salvage ANYTHING that usually gives tanned hides, OR go to Ascalon city with 4 charr hides and talk to Calissa Sedgwick to get one fur square
Aniril Mylas
Something I also have noticed is that it becomes easier to salvage with expert kit the higher the level you are. I im Lv20 and get rare items 7 out of 10 times. Roughly.
modru2004
ig ot furs everytime i used expert salvage on a centaur pelt and snowy centaur pelts. worked everytime so far.
antzdaman
I used jut a normal kit on a item worth 1gp and i got a fur square, can u tell me what they are worth thankz.
Augustian
Um, just to clarify, I found that collector person who gives out those fur squares. I remember now!! For those of you who have quested in Yak's Bend, you may remember a quest where you had to rescue some people from death. If you go to that area, and continue deeper through the snowy valley, you will find another region. Then, go into that area. You will know if you're in the right area if you start to see Hydras.
And, basically, I was level 8 then, so I just tried to run through, managed to talk the collector before death and saw all of his goods. So, there you have it. A major source of fur squares. =)

they just added the trader for the fur squares in Ascalon City in the last patch, as well as being able to but the expert salvage kit. Before the patch the earliest you could get them was Yaks Bend, most of these posts were made pre patch when it was much harder to get.
kingnothin
Yall do know that there is a collector in the starting city of post searing that trades you 4 charr hide for 1 fur square

Material traders do sell fur, but are usually out of stock. I bought myself a 10-pack yesterday for 1350!

What is best mob to kil for charr hides?
spiritofcat
Expert Salvage Kits have been available in The North Wall and Piken Square since the big update a week or two ago.
mthegreatone
well the trading will make it a lot easier at least...

i'm not too far in the game, (lvl 12) and the best thing i've seen is the ascalon armour in ascalon city. But is there any armour, for warriors anyway, that is better and doesn't use fur squares? or is at least somehow easier to get?
Also, what are some good outposts to go charr hide hunting?

FloridaFringe
The armor in Yak's Bend is better than the best in AC since it's AL55, increases Energy and doesn't require any rare materials. Obviously, it's not end game armor but it's good enough for level 12 thru 17 or so.
Char Hides can be found in abundance in The Breach.

when he said "mob", maybe he meant mobs of charr bladestorms and shamans or other groups...but they all have an equal chance of charr hides, right?
