Whats up with Virgoods?
TheGuildWarsPenguin
In tombs and Competition arena, i see random people spamming the same message about virgoods.com and saying something about buying GW gold.
Anyone else notice this?

They were spamming pre-Searing Ascalon City as well a couple of nights ago, in districts 1 and 2. Quite annoying. Reminded me of the spambots that took over Battle.net. The horror...the horror...
Aracos79
As long as they stay out of mission areas, I could care less about them. Who unmutes their general chat in towns anymore anyway? :P

They are spam-bots of a company that sells gold. Why they try and advertise in tombs I do not know. PvP chars really need gold.
Legendary Battousai
WTS 100 Plats for 10000 faction!
conker
there are alot of them during the day (bout 5 in popular districts in tombs) and 2 of them are probably bots, the other 3 are just ppl that likes to piss ppl off and is copying the bots :P i know this becuz i had a convo w/ one lo
beleg curudin
Well I report everyone of them I see, so I would advise you do not do it to annoy as these accounts get banned.
Charcoal Ann
and on that matter. you notice that they are having a sale this weekend?? i've already got myself 400k. be quick before its all sold out!!
j/k please don't ban me *cowers behind sofa, trembling in fear*
they are really starting to get on my nerves. 5 i've reported so far. how many people must actually buy gold for it to be profitable to keep buying so many accounts? it MUST be profitable what they are doing.

Someone told me in tombs that you get a keylogger if you went there and i did to check it out.

Don't go to the websites guys, just to be sure.
Send support a ticket and get them out of the community.
I'm going Bot hunting again.

Draygo Korvan
I wonder if anet could put some code in to flag accounts who say the word virgoods.com ingame. That way the support guys can take a look and take quick action against anyone from that website advertising.
Zaklex
A.net is actively pursuing these botters and appreciates all of the help from those that continue to report them. Any more detailed information would have to come from Gaile herself.
smurfhunter
just one thing i wanted to say here - unless you really plan on buying from them, dont go to virgoods.com... all it does is increase the amount of money they get from advertising as well as encourage them to continue botting.

I saw advertised (about a month ago) that you could "buy" guild-wars accounts with all skills unlocked... for only $499.
Align
Since it goes against the EULA, couldn't they contact the ISP that hosts that site and legally force them to take it down?
Aracos79
As we've discussed many times, those aspects of EULA's are difficult to legally enforce. Sure ANet can close the accounts, but taking down the websites? I don't think so. Otherwise all the other auction and sales sites would already be sanctioned. The only thing you can do is not give them any business. If they don't make a profit, they'll go away.
Kalt
I've encounter one in Competition arena, it was spamming some crappy site about getting free Ipods and all, you know the kind of site where you get attacked by pop ups until your computer crashes.
First I thought it was a human player but the next day it was still there pamming so it was probably a bot or a person with no life.

The more ppl report them, the more chances they will be banned if they get enough complaints.
Simply because someone is an A-hole one day does not mean that 1-report will get that A-hole banned/suspended. If he got 3-4 reports then that's a sure *I am a jerk* sign he's painting.
Same thing with in-game vendors. They change name often and move their bots around so Anet can't find them.
If ppl keep reporting them they'll be found eventually.
MSecorsky
If ANet wouldn't mind sharing a little power, I'd enjoy (I have a part-time devious mind) hunting down and banning those accounts myself for a half-hour/hour every evening or two.
Shoot, I'd do it for free, just to keep this game from being Diablo-ized.
Alex, Gaile... you reading this?

i've seen them around in a lot of places, i just ignore them i can care less on what they're doing as long as they leave me alone i can care less, but the thing i do hate is those b!tches that report people for like bad conduct like swearing most of the time if your in an arguement with people like them who they report you are the ones who usually start it, i think there's just to many narks in guildwars

they are called botters ... they farm cash and sell it for real life money like ige ... I see them in tombs now too ... just spamming away like every 45 seconds ... I am act5ually surprised that Anet is losing the bot battle (imo Alex) to these guys. Especially after there last interview about farming. I am sure Anet will eventually gain the upper hand in this bot battle, but in the mean time its unfortunate that the community has to put up with these marketers ... next step we will see porn ads and then pow, game over.
If you catch them spamming it just take a screenshot and send it to Anet, they will ban there accounts.
for example ... I saw virgoods.com spamming with a guy named "bot one two" kinda gives it away in his name, but i never screen capped it because I had more important thing to attend to ... (1 handed healing random pugs thrpugh thunderhead keep ... a challenge set by my guild to me) *chuckle*

It would be nice if distracting shot worked on spambots in town. Although I'd never get anything else done...

You'd think they'd but an internal chat filter on to flag certain words and characters, like "virgoods" and "$," then send a CSR right to the scene of the crime to inspect.

Anyways, I hope A-net thinks of a solution before this gets out of hand.
Diestro
The truely sad thing is, for them to have a service like this, and create all those accounts to do in-game advertising, they actually have to have a decent sized clientelle. I will never, ever, understand why someone would pay real money, for game money/eq that is FREE! The only thing you have to spend to get it is time. If these people buying this stuff have that much money to throw away, throw a little to your left so I can grab some. I'm sure I can find a helluva lot better ways to spend it.

So let me make a calculation:
UAS costs from 300 (the amount of mindless grind hours)*10$ (the amount you could make "grinding" at some medicore job) = 3000$ to 3000*10$ if you would do an MCJob instead. Buying a fully unlocked account for 500$ leaves you with 2500$ profit AT WORST.
Note that even in places with few jobs, time can still be spend to search for good deals, lowered prices, good insurance or just education, which increases your chances to get a better job.

What makes you better then the spammers then?
If you think cussing at a Bot is funny, Sorry but you need to get out more.

I have been reporting them as fast as I find them... I encourage others to do the same. and they are also monitoring logs of their current stomping grounds.

How to report a violation.. OFFICIAL...
Lastly. add them to your friends list.. I know like Why would I do that right? well its nice to see when they ban the account, as the current privacy policy prevents them telling you if they actually did so. but when you see their account change to (BANNED)... guess what? you just got a confirmation...
Thanks for helping keep the community free of RoC breakers...

I for example work 40 hours a week, leaving me about 2 hours to play the game if I'm lucky... so based on the fact it would take 300 hours to get all skills unlocked that means it would take me about 150 days of playing this game every day for 2 hours to unlock it. This isn't taking mindless farming, PvP/GvG and PvE into account as well.
I hate how people say... "Why buy gold? Just farm"... not everyone is unemployeed, in school, able to play at work, or just plain has more free time then others.
I have little gold in this game since I don't have 6 free hours a day to farm for items to sell... and I have a life
So while I do agree that buying gold is now against the rules and wrong... I think I understand why people buy it... afterall some of us have better things to do in our time then play this game 16 hours a day.

i actually met a guy ingame (whilst i was extracting the urine from the spambot) who had tried to buy money from this site.
he said that they didn't deliver the money. he still seems to have his account though.
