I got suspended and I don't know why. All it says is "You have been suspended for offencive behavior for the next 21 hours." They sent me no letter telling me what I did, nor do I have any idea as to what's going on.

I do remember making fun of one of those Virgoods representitives by copying their add, but lowering the prices and replacing "www.virgoods.com" with "www.cheese.com." Several people said they would have reported me if they didn't see the 'cheese'. I'm sure a few people did.

What kind of idiot sees a name like www.cheese.com and thinks it's an illegal blackmarket for online gaming? If I was suspended for this.. They didn't even check the website?

Otherwise, I seriously have never cursed on Guild Wars before. I don't talk about sexual things. I don't do stuff like that. Sure, I can cause a bit of commotion in an arguement, but not to that much of an extreme.

I heard one person talking about how they got banned for a week for logging in and out of characters. I know I was recreating alot for PvP, I wonder if that has something to do with it.

I sent them a letter, but I am completely baffled. I see posts like this all the time. It seems like the GW support team could save alot of time by just sending people a letter, telling them what they did wrong and for how long they are being suspended.

Yeah.. And this was like a day after I gave my clothes away and did the naked prot warrior build.. Couldn't be that. Besides, that kept alot of people alive for awhile.

"Abusive behaviour" is very vague reason indeed but it probably is because of whatever you were typing.
At least 21 hours isn't too long.

Best turn the chat off or ignore everyone in future

I am actually scared that honest people might get suspended because some guy reported and posted a screenshot of a particular thread line and not the rest of the actual conversation.

I'm never rude, never curse and never cheat....
But still there is a big possibility (and most probably already is) of nice decent players out there getting banned or suspended by jerks for not real reason.

And that really saddens me

My tip to anyone encoutenring a jerk:
If you ever encounter a jerk, take screenshots occasionally. Also refrain from being rude yourself as they will take advantage of that. Take a nonchalant attitude: Whatever, I don't care, if you say so and warn him to stop.

1-If it was rude enough you can send screenshots of your own. I alwasy send 2x Pictures once at the beggining of the conversation and the other at the end.

2-If you are suspended (and you didn't report) and suspect that it's that jerk's fault, send Anet those pictures dictating: If I was suspended because of this guy then here is the rest of the conversation *Show screenshots*
*********************************************8
If ever anyone else here at Guru has had a problem like this. Anet should know. It could escalate into a bigger problem of Jerks actually taking advantage of their system.

I learned just to never chat with anyone in the game. The MAJORITY of players in Guild Wars are childish, immature, and rude. I almost never chat with anyone anymore. True, I have met a good amount of mature, respectful players, but I have met far more of the immature type.

I've never been reported before. Well, not to my knowledge. They appearently never inform you about these things.

Some of you seem to assume that I'm lying about not knowing what is going on, though.

I can't believe I haven't been banned yet. I've wandered around districts cursing everyone out, calling people out to insult them, taken some money off people instead of going in to FoW and bailing (I was also reported for that too afaik). Not even a letter of warning from Arenanet or anything.

I think why he posted is just to raise the question:
Are we safe from being banning ourselves for no reason?
Not just to complain about him being particularly banned

Or a better idea; don't reduce yourself to a jerk's level and retaliate. At that point, you are just as guilty as them and can't complain if you are sanctioned. If you get griefed, mute the general channel, put them on ignore, and go about your business. If you feel the need, grab a screen and shoot it to ANet, but the last thing you should ever do is retaliate.

Not that; some others were questioning if he had been banned before, which seemed particularly flame-worthy. So...no more posts on that.

To Sagius: I'd just avoid imitating anyone breaking the rules, as yes, there are blockheads everywhere.

kawaii_bat, Anet has access to chat logs for pretty much anything. Screenshots help but they can see the whole chat anyway.

funny, i usually break rules outside town when there no one in my party! and i just curse like crazy everytime i died!

To the OP, i would think someone reported you for using advertisment in chat and it probably offened someone that you use cheese.com thing. Just explain to A-net your point-of-view but by the time A-net response back, you should be unbanned. Beware, if you see someone selling stuff or advertising, don't copy what they do to flame them; take a screenshot and report them in.

there's a lot of jerks on guildwars lol my brother got banned a couple days ago for a name You Queefed but it was good for me, he got me a lot of faction that day lol, but seriously these people need to lighten up if you see someone saying something bad just ignore it, what kind of b!tch reads every little thing in the channels and if they see something they report them with these kinds of people it seems like no one is safe from being banned, me being a man if someone says something to me i'm not going to keep my mouth shut just for this kind of crap seriously most of these people who report other people for misconduct are the one who usually start it and get insulted and can't saying anything bad and they're only choice is to be cowards and report people i think anet should just stay with banning people for things that are actually important like spamming websites, and scamming people stuff that's or just have a filter in the options menu

Wow. I should really read over what I write to the support forums. I left a few words out in several places.. Kind of looks like a big, idiotic rambling spree. O.O

The GM who replied actually told me that he couldn't understand what I was trying to ask. x.o

Yeah, I was blocked for imitating that Virgoods.com advertiser. It was reported, apparently by most of the people in the channel as "spam" though I only repeated the identical message about 3 times. Oh well.

Kind of funny. Some people can do the most heinous things and get clean away with it (then rub it in everyone's face), but you can get banned for talking about cheese.

If indeed what you say is true then its very serious... these things should be investigated before a ban.

But as you have no report or reason then you cant exactly assume thats what you was banned for.

I got banned in City of Heroes for for trying to get people to pay me influence for a non-existent license to fight in Paragon city... it was only a joke and we were messing about, but in any case It wasnt until about a month after the fact they banned me.

so I wouldnt make assumptions. I would first try find some facts.

OP should ask himself this question: "Is pretending to be a spambot that sells Guild Wars merchandise for real-life money a smart thing to do?"

If the answer is "no", then perhaps he should think more carefully next time before doing such a thing.

Just report them, don't emulate or mock them, cause it could be misinterpreted. they have every log monitor scanning every district ATM. so this si not the time to do something silly. You will be ok and should receive an e-mail or letter (snail mail) from them within a few days explaining the reason behind the temp ban. just be away. that's your warning... don't push it. Trust me,. I have seen some people Totally locked out recently. and they are now out of luck, even with buying a new copy of the game they can not get back in, via IP or via physical Address. Its quite unfortunate.

Someone reported me for the PVP-Name "Dude wheres my heal". Now i can "clearly" see why someone feels offended by that. Cough. Cough. Cough. Gotta love paranoids. They see insults everywhere, then screenshot things, twist and turm them long enough to make real insults out of them and then send them in to get you banned and... succeed.

Yes.. it is kind of stupid.

Just like that woman who came through an airport in america not so long ago... she said to the security guy

"I've got a bomb"

and she said it three times... so they arrested her.

When she admitted she was "only joking".. they charged her with wasting time.

I suspect you've been banned for simply joking... because.. ITS NOT A JOKE!... DONT DO IT!

well. no they do not just take the SS word for things..

Arenanet does in fact log all text content in the game. even in instances. If they know the time and place, and those involved they can search a log for that instance. I normally do a /bug report with a ref number, which I put into the report post in support area. Then the staff can easily search the /bug log and grab the exact instance snapshot server side and pull that information up.

This is a old beta trick for reporting... it still works very well for log searching...

So no need to worry about fake screenshots. that just gives them a general idea, they very much look at the server side information and go from that on what to do..

you'll be back up in no time.

ingy.

i did the same this with badgerbadgerbadger.com
course the message was only like the virgoods thing in language and form. never used the same message twice.
got plenty of laughs.
no ban on my side. and anyway you have to submit the time and character that you were playing with. i presumed so that they could check the whole conversation.
obviously they don't bother with that all the time.

Yeah that's wierd too. I think virgood has probably many accounts or change their names often or something. Cause Anet is probably banning like he!! and they are *still* there. If it ever comes to it they'll have to take legal action against the corp. itself.

My two cents; maybe posting any web site address other than Arena Net approved web addresses got you in the penalty box, especially since cheese.com is a legitimate web site and could have been construed as advertising? Remember, the mods don't mind read.
