Why putting greens in SF was the worst thing ever
Medion
I my opinion, it was a really bad idea of putting greens in SF and footprint only.
I always thought that Anet didn`t like ppl farming, but this is one BIG encouragment for ppl to farm green items. It is so easy to find them, and they make big money.
I don`t think the greens was a bad idea, but it should have been spread over whole southern shiverspeak and the fire island chain. Not only one spot where u can just get a group together and get rich in an hour.

They don't mind farming, as long as it doesn't wreck the game economy.

And have you actually tried it yourself? Rich in hour?
right...
The chance of getting a green that is worth something over 7k isn't that big.

About the farming, ok maybe they are not agains farming greens.
(I do think its screwing the economy, but I guess Anet knows better then I do.)
But about getting no items above 7K in an hour, I believe there have been several posts/threads, about that (I believe)75% of the ppl doesnt have more then 20K. 5 hours and you are way above that 20K. But I guess rich to u means like 10000K.

I found Rago's Flame Staff twice in the span of two days comprised of six or seven FA runs. It definitely can be a "get rich quick" scheme if things come out in your favor.
ManaCraft
The main reason why I don't like the greens is that they are dropped in specific locations, by specific monsters. That kind of drop system tends to promote "running" for items, instead of actually playing through the game to find them. Personally I would enjoy it much more if the bosses simply spawned randomly throughout a wide selection of areas, so that you weren't forced into playing through the same area over and over again to get something from them.
And then of course there's the fact that green items are often nothing but power items. A.Net never took the time to invent special mods to put on them to turn them into actual uniques, they just made a bunch of regular items with maximum mods. This only helps to reinforce the idea that if you want the best items, you do furnace runs. It also doesn't promote competition between several types of items, but eliminates it instead.
The concept of uniques is a good one, but A.Net did not execute it very well imho.

People will complain about anything and everything. Including things like Green Items that were put into the game to help people get max items with mods a little bit easier.
Who cares if people are farming them? And claiming that they're screwing the economy? How did you arrive to that wild conclusion?

I think the devs can do whatever they want - there will always be the big loud army of whiners waiting to whack them with their crybaby sticks.

The thing i dont like about green items is that anet didnt introduce enough... I mean, having a green item isnt much better, if at all, compared to collector items that you can easily get. So that means that getting a green item is 'kinda' like getting fissure armor.
More different greens woulda made ppl getting one feel more special... Isn't that what anet wanted the greens to do? Seriously, why did anet introduce green items in the first place?

Some of them are very rare and very hard to get. Take Tarnok Forgerunner. He only appears if you go in with no quests, and then its a random chance that he appears, and then a very low chance that he drops anything. It's still hard to get some of the greens.

Screwing up the economy? I haven't noticed hyperinflation lately when I checked on the various traders. Only ecto seems to be a bit more expensive I believe (over 10k) again. I haven't checked the past few days, so maybe things are borked now, but I doubt it. The part that is screwed up is some of the wanted gold maxed-out items or greens. but one can live without them.
It may turn out that this green item farming will screw the economy in the long run. Personally, I can't tell yet...

It's definately encouraged farming, most of the time I drop by camp deldrimor people are spamming "lfg farming" or some such.

You can earn like 3-5k per hour doing that. You could probably earn the same amount of money by killing Charrs and salvaging their hides. So, can we please stop this "green items are bad for the economy" bs? If enough people are going farming green items it will kill their prices - which means people no longer will do it. Economy really is that simple...

i spend the other day 20 minutes looking for a PUG (what exactly was I thinking then? ) for a SF mission. I was the only one, and I switched to various districts looking for other missionplayers. none.

People complaining about greens being dropped?!
Oh hell Ive been farming that area since the update and Ive only once seen a green drop, it wasn't even for me.
I haven't found any green items so how is it a "get rich quick" thing?

You have a really caustic method of replying to people Fantus (re: whiners etc.) My post was making a simple observation nothing more nothing less, it did not indicate in any way if I thought it was a bad thing or good thing did it? That said it may as well be renamed Sorrow's Farming. Did the dev team intend for it to be a 99% "Lfg farming" area? Who knows, but that's what it has become...
Rikus Talon
its luck! remember not to use henchmen or u might never see a green item.if 1 of your party members gets 1 they will usually brag about it.i myself have a green bow but it was given to me(for running someone to all the desert missions).i still havent found 1 yet.

The only thing I am critial of is the game's matching service, which could use some work to compensate for the debilitating wall that Districts puts up for people whose interests are in the minority. Regardless, if you are interested in XP, quests, or exploration, these are things not hindered too badly by the lack of interest. Henchmen serve just fine for a majority of the quests. If you are playing for the sake of commeraderie do so with friends! Chances are you probably wouldn't like most of the players that are only there for farming parties in the first place.
Omg Kthxbye
Give it time. Think of it this way, the more people farm, the faster more greens will come into the economy, and the faster prices will drop on them. Most greens are worth under 10K, and that number will continue to steadily drop. It's great that they introduced green items. Gives players a money sink, and gives other more do that (like me) have nothing else to do in the game. I have 4 LVL 20 characters, all ascended and beaten all missions. What is there to do now? I HATE PvP. Deleting a character to make a new one would just be boring. So, I farm. Why? To pad my wallet for Chapter 2 :P

If I want to do a quest in SF I set up a guild event and do it with friends

if Anet was to tack on a green item to the xp of the quests in sf then the interest would go back to quests and not farming.foreseen problem would be that every1 would eventually have those items and they would be worth nothing.

People are farming greens because the green items destroyed the value of nearly any imperfect weapons/weapon upgrades.
Runes are once again a rare commodity, especially those which are in high demand.
Farming if anything, brings prices down, because it pumps more items into the economy. Most people do not sell them for ridiculous prices. I sell any I ever find for 10k below what i COULD get.
Finally, I often go for a whole run, and find nothing. It takes FOREVER, and so it is not nearly as profitable as people would assume.
That's my take on it.
Sure has helped me becomes SICK in my protect skills though. It's madness. I am killer with keeping my team enchanted now. That's fun stuff!
EDIT> Those looking for missions, that is a very legitimate concern. I really feel for you guys. It might almost be a good idea if anet grouped districts or something for specific things.
They will never get rid of farming, and nuking the green drops which would piss everyone off, it might just be a good idea to accept us farmers and make diff districts.
That would be a pain in the ass. Definitely feel for the questers though, lots of farmers lately.. and yeah that is just no good.

I can buy a bludgeoner for 3k. Alot better then paying for 10/10 Sundering and +30 hp mod for a hammer. I love green items, the shit I could never even afford to pay for are now free with a bit of effort. Like the razorstone is a 15>50% +1 axe mastery and 10/10 dbl adren. sephis axe basically. (I think those are the stats) I can buy that for 100k off someone, or go get it my self for free. Those things are like, impossible drops just farming and stuff, hell if I'd pay for a 15>50% max dmg req. 9 sephis axe anyway, that doesn't even include the mods on it. I don't find these green items as a money sink seeing as how they are cheaper then what is already out there. Let people farm the greens, if you don't like it then do like quickmonty said he does. Get your guild together and go run and do quests to your liking. SF is not farmable solo (as far as I know, I'm sure someone has a secret build somewhere in the wolrd though) so everyone wants to go with a group. Farming griffons can be done solo and is an ok way to make money, so no one ever says "lfg for farming". Sorrows is a great place to farm (if you get the greens and know what you are doing) but it cannot be done solo by the average person. I promote farming by 4 man groups or w/e by all means so I can get the greens that I cannot afford alot cheaper if I get lazy.

The over abundance / farming of greens has resulted in two things:
1) Plunge the prices of those greens. Bludgeoner, Tarnok's Horned Bow, Gargash's Recurve Bow, etc are easily affordable to everyone (3-7k each).
2) As a result plunged the prices for all other items and mods, including perfect mods. Why bother spending so much money for a great bow / hammer when you can get one just as good for 3k?

Which is exactly why green items will not screw the economy.....Unless of course you mean by mods for weapons etc getting cheaper - as messing up the economy.
It was nescessary for anet to put greens in place to prevet the insane prices for some of these weapon mods we have seen.

I'll tell you why they introduced greens. It's to make it easier for PVE characters to get perfect items, like PVP characters can easily do by using faction to unlock the best mods. It's not to introduce uber items that unbalance the game. It's also to give high-level PVE characters with nothing else to do, except perhaps PVP, something to do.

Heh, the constant people looking to farm is the reason I haven't been in that area in a long time... I wanna play the game, want to find a group to play with, all I find is people looking for yet another echo nuker or monk for (insert #) man farming group.

the greens are a great addition to the game, imho. those items give my pve characters great pvp ability. which, in turn, means i do not have to create pvp characters each time we change a build. this way i can pvp with my pve healer and ele, leaving the 4th character slot for a necro.
only thing i do not like about some greens are the stats, but that's just a personal perference. i would never trade my collectors Defensive Air Staff of Defense for that green air ele staff. i dont need the energy, or +7 vs elemental only. on the other hand, i do love the brimstone wand/artifact set. same goes for some green bows, specially for that vampiric one without the +30 health upgrade.
-loki- however raised a good question. i play a r/n and often switch between /e, /mo and /me. great thing is the 4 weapon slots which enable me to have 4 different bows for different builds. theres the stinger/tigers fury for poison spamming, fiery hornbow for fireslinger or interrupter build, vamp feathered longbow for running around with mending and just looking cool while spamming barrage, and there's the shocking composite with 20% enchants for some lightning damage.

The big problem, if there is a problem at all.
Is people will pay tons of gold for green stuff.
but in a few months you prob wont even be able to give the stuff away
cuz the market will be so flooded with them
The worst part about green items is they only sell to the mechent for like 50 gold or less after they have been ID
On the other hand it makes a good way for new people to the game to make gold, snese they have nerffed alot of old angles.
awe back in the good old days when 10 wood was worth 100 gold
and every pack of giants you killed droped fanncy gold boots
and you could buy black dye for 500 gold each
all and all the cost of rare max stuff is going up and every thing else is going down.

The reason I think greens were a bad idea is because now any noob player can pay under 10k for an item that is pretty much the best. To many people they would never buy golds again because these greens are so much "better."
I used to think I had to have all the greens, but why bother? I can buy a gold sword and put whatever mods on it I want for way cheaper than one of the unmodable green items.
Bottom line is....the greens are here...All the complaining in the world isn't going to change that. You just have to play the game how you want to.

The game's not about items anyhow, so who cares?
If you're PvEing, you want your team to have the best. Makes life easier.
If you're PvPing, well, all PvP characters get the best to start with anyhow, so it's irrelevant.
