(I suspect these people don't know how to access the log) The log tells you who to talk to if you forget and Sir Tydus will have a green exclamation point over his head after you talk to a guard. It can't get much more obvious. Personally I expected more people complaining that they didn't notice that it was a oneway quest rather than not finding it at all!
Amen. I love the "[i]players[/]" that have to ask where everything is and want to tag along instead of doing the quests or exploring themselves. And by tagging along, geting hit up for a party if you're above a level 4 in pre and level 10 in post. I guess there are more non-beta players that I thought.

And what's with the level 2's and 3's in post trying to quest without resources or decent weapons?

I think part of the fault also lies in the fact that the Prima guide is late arrving. My local Game Stop pushed it back to the 17th, while Amazon says 2-3 days. Yet no one knows exactly when, even on the Prima site.

If they hit level 10 the next time the enter the city there should be an automatic cutscene of Tydus inducting you into the academy and off you go!

I don't think it's a good idea.
Those morons will then tell everyone that you have to sweat through 10 long levels in order to get accepted in the academy. Then you'll have even more people thinking the game feels like a chore and sales will drop.

The fact he didn't use any abbrieviations or leetspeak compelled me to help him out. I felt bad for the guy, it was kinda pitiful, but at the same time I laughed through most of the next 5 minutes trying to explain the whole pre/post-searing concept without ruining the surprise that pre is just a brief tutorial. I really liked that I had no idea what was happening my first time through, but it can get rediculous for some of the more simple-minded among us.

I guess he was looking for the armor crafter in post Ascalon after reading a guide or something, and he couldn't find one anywhere in pre, leading him to believe he wasn't in Ascalon at all or that there was another Ascalon in existence. A simple mistake, but the funniest thing anyone could have said at the time, less than an hour after I got my main into post and decided to reroll becuase I wasn't prepared for it at all.

I've have seen a lot of people sitting around town in pre at level 8. Either they are stupid and don't know how to move on, or they are very smart and are buying up all the dyes they can for 50 - 100g.

If you do all the quests you can in pre, you should be at lvl 8 by the time you leave pre . That or you are smart and training your pet to the same level you are. Me, I think anything below lvl 7 is bantha fodder for post-searing despite post-searing having lvl 3 starter henchies.

Of course, I've seen a post on the board that asks if they can explore the whole map because they did all the quests and don't know what to do.. kind of like how this one started but not.

Well, there must be a bug.

I finished all the quests in pre-sear (except for the gift quest) and reached level 7. I stood at the gate of Ascalon asking for help on how to get out, but no one knew.

I read in the forums that once you reached a point where you could leave, then the guards would instruct you. So, I started talking to guards. I must have talked to about 20, but they just blabbed on about home life, or about how much their feet hurt.

I read something in the forums about an acadamy, so I looked for it, but couldn't find it.

I read in the forums something about Tyrus, but I couldn't find him. Looked all over each of the 4 cities I had discovered. Finally found him in the SE part of Ascalon, by the big iron door. I talked to him, and he took me to the acadamy!

I hope someone else finds this post to be informative.

They really do need to fix the guards, or people will be stuck in pre-sear for the whole game.

Pre-Searing Ascalon is a little ambiguous. I had read up on it before playing the game for the first time, so I knew what I had to do to move on, but I can see how uninformed players could be greatly confused. The fact that you're supposed to move on yet your quest log is blank is most likely what leads to the confusion.

ArenaNet apparently recognizes this shortcoming as well since it will be addressed in the near future:

"We’re . . updating many of the quests in Pre-Searing Ascalon to make it more straightforward for players to gain entrance to the Academy." (Link)
