I guess you could beat the Idiot Savants with your hands tied, as your beloved elite crowd has left and there's nobody worthy of your attention here.)
By far the best PvP was in the beta's.(which is basically what is said about any game on the face on the earth by the beta-freaks) The first 2 months or so after release was ok, but still far short of what it was in the last few beta's.(omg, new people went in after buying the game retail! all those villains! it's outrageous! they can't be as good as the people in the beta, because people in the beta are leet!!! teh leetest!!) There used to be PvP guys, and carebears.(you forgot the 3rd category, elitist jerks, where you belong) Now there are carebears and carebears who think they can PvP (what did the people in the beta do to make them so special? cured cancer? came up with the relativity theory? this is a videogame sir, stop talking nonsense, you're making yourself ridiculous) |

I played the beta too and I enjoy the game for what it was and what it became. I have some complaints on continued bugs in tombs, and the economy from people not treating as a Game economy and instead like a inflation economy for outside resell.
But the game itself is everything I hoped for while beta testing.
As to the arrogance of the players. its getting worse. every day... I just started turning off chat anymore. most can not handle themselves in a way that is fitting a game, and have to act like they are the pimp daddy on the block with all the b!tches in line. Whatever. Win a game say gg ad move on. Loose a game say gg and try again... Don't go complaining and crying about a build or whatever... Tombs is not the place for a PUG any longer, so don't even bother trying or you will be ridiculed as a worthless player. I'm not saying you are, its just the general attitude anymore... Which I hate.
As to the starter of this thread, IMO this is more propaganda for other games suffering by the success of a Subscription Free MMO that is GuildWars. Typically they frequent our forums and taunt us as cheap a$$ people for not playing their games instead of Guild Wars. Well maybe so, but I don't feel like Shelling out $50, just for the honor of getting ripped off for a further $150 a year to play a game. No. Not worth it. never will be.
as you all know GW is on a update Chapter model. That is about to be tested. If successful expect to see more like this model popping up.
Chapter 2 is expected to be around $20... same with Chapter 3. That's all of 2006 right there...
SO add up with me. Initial Retail game... $45 + $23 + $23 = $91 That's from launch to end of 2006 total cost.
Now lets take one of the other MMOs on the same time table for equivalent gaming.
$56 + (2 months free) + $14 * 4 (for rest of 2005) + $14 * 12 (for 2006)=
$280 For the same time frame as the above estimate with Chapter 2 and Chapter 3. This includes absolutely no expansions on the Subscription MMO either which would be expected in this time frame and would likely add another $23 or so for it.
GW total end of 2006 = $91
Other MMO Total end of 2006 = $280+
I ask you, what would any sane person choose?

Guild Wars sold a lot of copies by grooming itself as a Free MMO. I'm not too certain the backlash it caused was worth it. That is, of hardcore PvE players being pissed off because it doesn't do enough to basically be Diablo 3 or whatever MMO they play and hardcore PvP players who found that the environment not to their liking due to initially slow unlocks and a horrible matching service.
Don't get me wrong, I like Guild Wars a lot. I just think their poorly balanced rewards for playing like a fanatic PvEr and effort it took to be flexible in PvP ultimately pissed off a lot of players, including the established fan base from before release. Guild Wars made a bold choice in trying to mess with and combine the formula of hack n' slash and PvP Arena games.
It just seems that most gamers prefer and in fact expect new games to just be revamped clones wrapped up in prettier packages.

Oh I forgot one more thing...
Other MMO ... Miss 1 month, Your character is lost forever...
GW ... Miss buying a chapter, your character is still preserved and you can continue to play at your will, even if you leave for something else for a month or so, just not the new content till you buy the chapter.
Now I have played Everquest 1 and 2, Worlds of Warcraft, Matrix Online, SW Galaxies, in betas. I have also played City of Heroes, and City of Villains in beta from this publisher. Guild Wars is the only game of any of these I have consistently returned too with joy. City of villains might snag me, but not for long as I can not afford a subscription model. It is a principle thing... I don't believe in it so I don't like supporting it. However the GW Free to play, paid chapter model is something I can get behind 100%. If it is proven successful I see 2006 being a good year for this to mature throughout the MMO gaming world.

If I remember correctly, Chapter 2 is going to be full blown retail price (ie. $50) because it's going to have just as much content as Chapter 1, basically a whole new game.

I loved GW, but as a non-pvp person it's on the back-burner until something interesting happens. I played it constantly from full release until about a month ago. Too much competition with Football Manager, Civ 4 (whats wrong with it ?) ect, ect. My latest hobby is waiting to see how Lionhead are going to stuff up The Movies, seeing as how they bolloxed up Fable and B&W 2....

I would really like to repeat that, as it seems to be such a damn hard concept for many to grasp: the PvE players aren't complaining.
I bought the game one week after release, and the PvP players were bitching and moaning then. They're bitching and moaning now. They'll be bitching and moaning a year from now.
But I'm being unfair here. The PvP players in general aren't bitching and moaning, the battle.net kiddies are. You know them, the l33t guys who cheated and duped in Diablo2 (and are quite upset they can't in GW), the guys who wont report a bug they can exploit unless everyone already knows about it. Some of them are good players, some are bad players, most of them even Jesus would consider shit wrapped in skin, but above all they share the heartfelt belief that they're teh l33t and better than the mere mortals polluting the servers with their presence.
They bitch and moan, but not because there's anything actually wrong. They bitch and moan because they hope to get ANet to give them preferential treatment so they can pwn nubbs, as is their god-given right and the natural order of the world. There's nothing a battle.net kiddie hates more than a level playingfield. Except possibly when one of their favorite exploits get found out and fixed.
PvE players don't bitch and moan, because they don't want ANet to help them dominate other players and don't rely on bugs and exploits. They just play the game.
EDIT: Now, THESE are the words of a PvE'er:

As a new person first getting the game and playing it straight through buying much needed weapons and armor on the way, how many of you could get 600k in a month? Hell it took me half a month just to get to the desert. Once I got there, I still had to ascend, get attribute quests, and cap the really good spells before I could farm efficiently. I did not waste my time in towns selling equipment because I never know how much to ask and I didn't get anything good until I started farming.
Remember this is as a new person. Ie...not knowing the fastest way, not paying for runs, not knowing the bonus, or having money/material to get good armor right off the bat...and if you were a mes, ranger, or necro, it was even harder at the beginning just trying to find a group to do missions. Now if I started as a new character, I probably could but when I first got the game, no way!

Uhm...the recent skill changes and balances are all made because PvP players want a level playing field. Wasn't it the "uber farming monks" that were the most displeased with recent skill changes and the nerfing of their precious(but unmistakenly overpowered) protective bond?? As far as I can tell the PvP players want the skills to be balanced(for the most part) and the PvE players want the skills to remain as they have been since release(probably due to a lack of ability to adapt to new situations using different skills)....I'm just not clear as to where you got your information in regards to PvP players wanting to "uber pwn the nubbs"
dont feel no pain
every night after playing Guild Wars i get in a shower curl up like a ball in the corner and rock back and fore shouting who am i who am i.........

Most of the complaints is because of the false advertising done by anet. "Time over skill", "No grinding", "Streaming updates"? Pfft...right.
I complain a lot because they can easily get a lot of shit fixed in no time but they refuse to, because they want to cater to the lowest common dominator. Anet doesn't have tutorials or good premades, and they refuse to anything that totally screws up the competition or lowers the bar for players (rank, ranger spike, HOH setup, IWAY, just to name a few). Don't get me started on the half-ass builds on Guild of the Week or that 1up inter view.
I could go on and on, but this is Anet we're talking about. They wouldn't listen to logic, just money.

I think time played should be measured in hours (via /age) and not real-life time because obviouisly everyone plays at a different rate.
600k in a single month is believable. I hit 1 million within 400 hours, but that's probably because I spent 300 hours trading.
It also depends how you spend your time, obviously I spent mine trading. If you spent 400 hours playing PvP, PvE storyline and not trading / solo farming you'll gain gold at a much slower rate but it all depends on what you find fun.

Not all of us are content to just load up on henchmen all the time. Part of the game is working with and playing with other people. If that becomes impossible due to low server populations (and the ones left either being arrogant l33ts or noobs) the game just won't be worth playing anymore for some people. |

If I bring a unique build to tombs, no one will want it. If, for example, I bring an axe warrior using Cleave, I wouldn't be able to join a group.
*waits for someone to say cleave sucks, proving that once again the community for GW is killing the pvp competition*

Wow, trolling much?
Anyone that thinks all there is to do in a videogame is reach the highest numeric level is missing out on a loooooooot of great experiences.
You stopped playing because you got one character to level 20 and had 60k? Did you try a different class, different secondaries, different character builds, forming a guild, GvG, arenas, tombs, solo farming, FoW/UW/SF questing/farming, trying new team builds, etc etc?
If you didn't see the potential this game had when you first started playing it, you probably never will.

its true , im mostly pve player , and i cant get bored ... i havent done everyquest yet , becose i dont want to , i like to do it slowly ... and i use guildwars as a chat room also .. so dont really need anything special to keep me going in ...

i want to play pvp , but not before i have a good friendly guild to go in with , and fell safe of anything.

Well, there are good and friendly guilds out there that would be happy to invite you, with rank 48 and all that. Just ask for a guild when in tombs (you will get a lot of posts, just ask some questions and you will find a nice one), or join a guild team in tombs and if you like the other players, ask if you can join.
