AMD Athlon 64 3000+
MSI Neo4 Platinum Mobo
1 gig (2x512) Patriot low latency mem in dual channel
Leadtek Winfast GeForce 6600 GT TDH Extreme (128MB, PCI-E)
2x120MB WD Caviars in a RAID 0
CoolerMaster RealPower 450 PSU

I am loving every bit of the comp except the PSU (DO NOT buy this one) and the vid card. Leadtek just has shitty documentation and poorly translated utilities. The mobo and memory are great, no problems except for the noisy fan on the NForce 4.

Probably. You would need at the very least 512 megs of ram. 1GB would be better. Processor speed would be a factor too. If you do not have a dedicated video card slot then I would get a PCI video card.

My old system was:

AMD Athlon XP 3000+
nVidia GeForce FX5200
512MB PC2700 DDR RAM
Some random factory mobo

But i had a lot of problems, and i managed to fry my massive ( -.- ) 220W PSU...

so i'm building a new PC

AMD Athlon 64 4000
GeForce 7800GTX 256MB
1GB DDR400 PC3200
ASUS A8V Deluxe mobo
550W PSU.
Gaming Case with a lotta case fans

Decided to get a new monitor to...mainly because..well, i could. The new Viewsonic something-or-other (The one with the 4ms response time). And i got me one of those nice Saitek Gamers Keyboards.

All in all, a powerful little thing. I say little. My case is massive. I can fit 2 of my previous cases inside it and still have room left (i had thin small case before...with no fans...and a 220w psu...how did i ever play anything on that?!)

I'm tempted to get 2 76GB Western Digital Raptors and put them in Raid 0 configuration...Think it's worth it? 10k rpm...but the cost...oh the cost. Plus i would probably have to buy a new OS, as i have one of those damnable 'Restore CD' that come packaged with purchased full systems from places like PCWorld...

I currently am using our old dell 1.8 GHz to play this, but the computer I have and will be using (hopefully soon cause I don't have internet in my room yet) Is an AMD 3400+ on an Asus A8V MB with a Gig of Dual Channel Ram. I have an ATI Radeon 9600XT 256mb graphics card and a 120gb hard drive. The computer I want to build consists of the following.

ABIT AN8-SLI nForce4-SLI Motherboard / AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 CPU
Twin Geforce 7800's
8 Gb of GDDR2 Dual Channel Ram
And 4 250GB Maxtor HDs on a Raid setup.

You'd certainly be able to run a few games on that....

Though...instead of 4 250GB Maxtor's, go for 2 76GB Raptors or a 15,000rpm version, slap 'em in Raid 0 and install you're important programs on them (IE, games, OS), and have another 2 300GB HDD's if you really want the space. If you're going to aim for that machine, might as well give it a warp-style hard-drive and give it that extra li'l' boost.

Well my new Dell Dimension 5100 showed up yesterday. Record time I might add.

3.4GHZ 800FSB (Dual core Processors are not worth the money yet)

4Gb DDR2 533MHZ Ram (4X1Gb chips...Decent Upgraded from 4X256 400Mhz)

ATI X800XL PCIe Vid Card (Upgraded from X600 OEM)

UltraSharp 2001FP 20.1" LCD

Dual Layer DVD/RW +/- Burner X16
DVD-Rom Player X16
80GB Hard Drive SATA 7200rpm
160GB Hard Drive SATA 7200rpm (they messed up and ended up sending me this one for $46.00)
Floppy Drive (I am OLD SCHOOL, like those for BIOs updates)
SB Audigy2 7.1 sound card w/Fire Wire port

Decent game box. Need a good video card though to make it sweet. My Dim 4600 with a ATI 9800pro is sharper in the graphics department. EDIT: Upgraded Ram and Vid Card....now it is smokin'

I do like the box design over the older Dim 4600 one. Better cooling, bigger box, easier to get to components. I like the headphone and mic jacks in the front. Nice for hooking up for Teamspeak. Real quiet. But that is in part to the NO FAN on the whimpy X600 card.

1GHz AMD Athlon
512MB RAM
GeForce 2 MX 64MB

20GB D Drive

The game requires a minimum of a GeForce 3 graphics card but i use a GeForce 2. It works well and it will do until i get a new computer in a few weeks.

Chris Lyon82,

How does that SLI 6600GT set up perform? How does that compare to lets say 1 6800GT or Ultra? I figure you have double the ram from two cards, but is it really any faster?

I looked into it before i bought them, either get 1 6800gt or 2 6600gt's an save some money. At the time I decided on 2 6600's as I heard they would of been better, but since then Ive seen proof that the 6800gt performs ever so slightly better, plus you can always upgrade by buying another.

If I was to do buy em again id save up that bit more an buy the 6800gt, but for value for money there probably the same.

Oh yeah, the 6600gt only has 128mb ram while the 6800gt has 256mb and Ive never ran them not in Sli mode so I couldnt tell you if there is a big difference (all though now Im tempted to find out)

Ohh...okay! I didn't think that the 6600GT would only have 128megs. So by sharing two of them you get a total of 256megs. And that is cheaper then one 6800GT? Or cheaper then one 6800 ultra?

I had something simlular years ago with a Voodoo 2 12meg 3D card. You could put two of them in a box and connect them. I bought one thinking I'll get another one later. (They were $150.00 each) Never did, by that time 32meg video cards were hitting the scene. So I bought a new Dim 4100 and got the Geforce 2 Pro 32meg card. AGP slots were new then too. My old Voodoo 2 was a simple PCI slot card.

I have this set up now for about 3 months and at the time it was cheaper to get 2 6600 gts than one 6800gt. The ultras are dearer than the Gt's. Just checked the website that I bought them of and there now not selling the asus 6600gt or asus 6800gt, looks like technologys moved on already with the 7 series.

hehe.. i remember when i got give a voodoo 2, i thought it was the best thing ever at the time

I havnt found a game running the 6800gt faster makes a difference in yet so i just leave [email protected] usually. I run on 1280x1024 on desktop for easy alt/tabbing to irc/aim usually; and never notice an fps drop with settings jacked. I cant complain; but getting new case and ram some point this semester
