The Pub
Symeon
In World of Warcraft, in the cities there are pubs where you can buy drinks, hang around and socialize. I think something similar to this would be great on GW because a lot of the time in towns people are hanging around socialising, a rest from fighting for a bit. So, give them something more to do. Have a little building, you can't go inside it but there's a open shop window with the pubkeeper inside, you can buy drinks, food etc. Also, as well as just getting drunk and the screen going blurry and you saying things, you could also start dancing around, wobbling and stuff. The food? Well, it would determine your weight, just like I suggested on the previous thread. You would not need new armour for being fat/slim, it would just alter automatically. The stuff would be cheap, very, or people would never bother doing it. Not like darn dwarven ale at 200g. All we need is for the guys relaxing on the street to have something else to do.
Maybe, they could even buy an instrument and play it on the street. That'd just be plain cool.

In WoW nobody really socializes in the INN's every time I go into an inn, there might be 2 or 3 people in there, 1 or 2 are AFK and the other one is either getting a quest, turning a quest in, or buying/repairing/selling items.
Since that game has a general channel, you can just hang out anywhere and socialize.

I believe it has been mentioned before to the frog (think I was there actually), and I think they are thinking about it.
I for one, would really like a place like a Pub. Do some RPing.

Maybe, even, the drinks/food could be free, and could be available in mission places and other outposts too, so while waiting for monks you could just get drunk and muck about etc. They would be like quest items, you can't sell them.
I got really excited about having some kind of instrument seller. So now, in Lion's Arch we could have whole bands of people playing instruments rather than miming it. Maybe even it could make sounds like play the GW theme tune or something, and people could turn being able to hear it on and off like turning off certain channels.

a juke box style band would be awesome.
you could pay money to choose a song, and you could pay a lot of money to interrupt the song that is currently playing in favor of your own.
it woudl be a sweet gold sink and a lot of fun.

I'll sign for a few reasons explained below.
The game is really not quite an RPG, it's still just a hack and slash like diablo or even gauntlet.
With this leaning on making the AI more like PvP(not a good idea in my opinion) you're going to be getting rid of peole that never wanted to PvP which was supposed to be completely and utterly OPTIONAL.
It will keep a wider user base, period. It's not a change that will nerf some players. Adding choices instead of taking choices away will be a good thing, and any business should know that and attempt it from the start.
In most RPG's, eventaully you step foot inside a building, the closest I've come is in catacombs. I highly doubt any comunity such as Yaks, would have solely be outside, with one campfire....Realism right? An entire race of people that don't ever step foot inside buildings, they can build them and even master magic....
An obvious shift between night and day would be a nice addon, in the field and in towns. It's a beautiful game already, but to have one's shadow never move, well it kinda creeps me out.
There are alot of RPG improvements that could be made, but this is a good a start as any I've read.

Plus it would be nice for an underworld city, and maybe fights between NPCs start at pubs randomily, and nice merry music in pubs instead of the calm sorrowful music or war music.

This thread is a lot of different ideas: pubs, slim/fat, instruments, night/day. What they all have in common is that we would appreciate more role playing type things which do not simply involve fighting. Visibly carrying quest items instead of weapons in your equipped slots for example, like the teddy bear from Cantha, or actually using the flute you bought for yourself instead of for Gwen when playing /flute. I would welcome anything in the game that doesn't involve fighting.

I stopped reading after "In WoW"...
We don't need anet to import other ideas from Blizzard to make this game great. We have towns to do our chatting in, and instances for exploring, WoW doesnt have instances and ths has a place set aside for socialising.

I personally like all the ideas here. I think what the basic point boils to, as was said by Vana, that we just want more roleplaying options and story choices. Whether it be an RP district or a pub in a certain area, it would be a great addition to the game.

You can't have a pub without some mini games to play there!
Maybe have a mini game or two, like a card game.

We English would prefer a ‘Tea House’ where we could sit and talk about the weather
Not a bad idea but can’t see it being taken up

This sounds like a good place to add to Lyra Song's PvE island that you can get to with any campaign... Also the battle islands as well for the PvPers to hang out.

There are several towns in GW where community is stronger than trading, but it's not enough.
P.S. Sorry for my English.

I think they should find a way to ban trading in a spot like a pub if they ever start one.
I also think we should ban any thread that starts out "In wow they have..."
Besides, pubs are in all kinds of RPGs from oldies like the Bard's Tale right up to the present-day Oblivion.

I think a Pub with click to sit down chairs, mini-games <perhaps a GW version of Blackjack or checkers> and appropriate atmosphere would be a neat addition to the game.
Diddy bow
No trading in pubs
(as in the trade button is disabeld) it would mean trading in it isnt worth the effort. I think somthing like this would be exellent. GW needs more things like this imo
EDIT:IN english by yours truly ^^

I agree with you entirely on what you mean about the game not quite being an RPG and being quite hack and slash. It would be nice to have more additions that give it a more RPG feel such as this- Yes it is a great game already, but theres always more things that can be added to make the players happier and thus, the game better.
I remember when I first bought the game, and was with my ranger character in pre searing which is now nearly 2 years old, and I must have spent about half an hour trying to figure out why I couldn't enter one of the cute little cottage type houses just outside Ashford Abbey outpost xD
Stupid yeah, but i felt a bit dissopointed when I realised you couldn't enter any of this attractive little houses, so I agree the closest I've ever come to setting foot in a building would also be the catacombs; so I'd like to see something like this be implemented ^^

I've always felt that a Guild Barman would be a great idea so that you can hang out in the Guild Hall and have some fun. However, with the release of Nightfall, and the Tihark mission, now I'm thinking that a Guild Party Organiser would be better. This would be an NPC character that you could buy for your guild hall.
This would allow you to put a party party together, I guess 12 people which is the biggest party I've seen in Guild Wars so far. Perhaps you pay a plat or so for party snacks and drinks, which everyone gets a couple of when the party starts. Similar to the festival events things, but specifically tailored for guild parties. Also a party hat automatically in the guild colours, which disappears at the end of the party. Possibly a barman that would take booze vouchers in exchange for a drink.
Then, as in Tihark mission, there are a couple of things to do, like dance, and mime, perhaps the party organiser can suggest things for people to do and reward them with more snacks and drinks or booze vouchers like in the festival events. There could be fireworks and special collectable items too, like a mini festival.
Then, once the party reaches a certain level of drunkeness, it gets invaded by gatecrashers, which you have to fight in your drunken state. The gatecrashers would drop some fun stuff, like permanent party hats which could be taken to the festival hats person. Also booze vouchers for the next party. Perhaps a couple of the rarer crafting material items could also drop. Of course, if the gatecrashers defeat you, the party would be over, but they shouldn't be impossibly difficult to beat. I guess they would also be drunk, or they wouldn't be gatecrashing.
This would be a nice way to allow individuals to have their own celebrations outside of Halloween, Christmas and New Year. Anyone else wanna party?

I think a Pub/Tavern is a neat idea and it goes well with the suggestion to have one or more "permanent" mini-games in the game.

I think a Pub/Tavern type mini-game should be introduced. Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor and Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer had a really cool mini-card game that played very much like Magic the Gathering...was highly addictive. In the mini-game, called Arcomage, you played against the "house" (the AI) with random card stacks...it would be really neat to adapt that type of game for 2 or more players. Yeah, one or 2 repetitively fun mini-games would be great. |

I do have one question though. Would this be another zone, or would it be within all towns, or just major cities IE LA, Kamadan, Droks, Kaineg etc.?

I couldn't care less about what games and crap could get put in such a place. Just having a Sake-Bar in Kaineng Centre where trade-spamming was strictly forbidden would make it all worthwhile.
Ok... trade spamming and all spamming. Some sort of coding to stop the same phrase being stated twice in a row, irrespective of time constraints...
No "W T S" + "W T B" spamming.
No "lfp" spamming.
No "lf taxi" spamming.
None of that crap.
I just want the spamming to stop!

My guild often RP a pub with player controlled barmaids, ie we serve drinks, chat IC etc
It would be great fun to do this in a setting that actually looks like a tavern rather than at the guild hall!
The inclusion of various mini games sounds like great fun too.

I have to agree that ive never seen a huge mass of people "socialising" in pubs in WoW.
Their generally just places to hook your stone too and then you leave. Plus we have "social areas" in GWs; their called towns, outposts and cities.
WoW has inns and pubs, because its a completely open game. Its much harder to localise everyone into one place. Everyone is scattered all over the place
GWs on the other hand is smaller and alot easier to gather people. We have 1 or 2 capital cities in each campaign where most people congragate. If you want to socialise, then go to one. If you want piece and quiet, go to an empty town and take your friends with you.
Just to add something; If you want to escape trading, flooding of the chat window and to basically chill out from the GWs.
Instead of asking for pub ingame to do that, actually go to the pub (in real life)!
Im sure getting drunk at your local, hanging out with mates and chatting up young women/guys is going to be alot more fun then sitting in a virtual pub, drinking virtual pints and checking out virtual boobs.

yea this is a great idea! so what you guys say there is hardly any people in the pubs in WoW. this is GW!!! So what if he got the idea from WoW? we dont have to keep comparing it WoW. and i for 1 will always be there. it will add some spark to gw you can imagine it *the guys have just one a guild battle, the guild leader shouts "meet in Lions Inn in 5mins drinks on me!" and they walk off into the night after hours of binge drinking tottaly pissed out of there little gw heads* see doesent it sound great? lol. And remember the drinks can count toward your drunkard title and sugary food towards your sweet tooth title. i think a pub is great idea and they could even make if possible a xunlai national bank. lolz.

simply because i dont see why this shouldnt be in Guild Wars. Why should i have to stand outside all the time
EDIT: After reading Kuldebar's posts, i realied something. We should be able to sit on chairs/seats anytime we see one anywhere. For example, at Honur Hill in Vabbi, there are seats near a stage, those type of things, we should be able to sit on them.
It's sad that we all have to sit on the floor as our only option of rest (partly roleplaying wise).

I like this idea. Finally, those sweet tooth and drunken titles might have some use in the pub/teahouse. Maybe a mini betting system that can increase your lucky/unlucky title via lottery/etc.? Disable trade and it should stop 80% of the spamming.
I think this will be included in gw2.
