Officer Power suggestion
Pyrrhus
Excellent idea. Proper power distribution to the right people is what guilds need.. not give everyone one of two differing powers. There are just some people you'd trust with recruiting but not with promoting, it's common sense to be able to customize what powers different officers have. /signed all the way to the Halls of Dis

ncie idea, even though im not an officer in my guild.

This or add another layer of command (Council maybe?) and have it so Officers can recruit but can't abuse their position by kicking members etc (only Council members and Leader can do that)

maybe even give sum officers sum power, the good ones of course

I think it would be funner if there were simply more ranks within a guild. Leader, Officer, and Member are just so limited. Throw in a few more ranks, like Captain, Seargent, or even Recruiting Officer, or something similar. Then give different ranks different powers. This would be a lot more fun, and would make the Guild part of Guild wars more important in my opinion

I know there is going to guild alliances as well so why not.

The 5 or so items in the picture are about all the responsibilities an officer has. If we get more options in the guild such as items relating to guild storage or guild hall customization, then maybe we could use some more levels. In my opinion this would just be easier.

Per officer indeed. Not that I don't trust the newer officers that I promote, but I would rather see how they act in a higher position of power before giving them all of the responsibilities of said position.

Yeah in EQ II it worked well where the leader could regulate the power

My guild has been around for ages, and never had we once had any responsibility issues. We all think it would be fun to add more diversity to the guild options. Guild storage is a bad idea, unless you can choose who has access to storage. Regardless, I think it would simply be better to expand personal storage. Guild Hall custimization is a good idea, but I can't see it being implemented. But it would be nice to have a merchant and other traders in the guild hall.

Officer__________________Seargent/General
Invite Members___________Kick memebers/officers
Promote Members_________Promote Officers
Now doesn't that seem silly? To divide an already low amount of responsibility into even less. Thats why I don't think adding a new level will work.
And no one here said anything about not wanting to add more diversity to the game. I personnally don't see how adding a new guild level is more "diverse". You've basically just created a level to do half of what an officer can do already.
Also, it has already been confirmed that we will have some type of guild storage and guild hall customization, so thats why I said that it could be another responsibility.

what is really needed is not this but more ranks than just leader officer and member. attach certain powers to different ranks in the guild. it would also encourage guild members to participate mroe in the guild since it would give them a gain.

This came up the other week, I defiantly agree to having more ranks in guilds and a certain level of power to each rank.

But, I think I discussed this somewhere before. Oh wait, look like 3 posts from the top of the page. There is a grand total of around 5-6 things an officer or leader can be in charge of. If you take away some of those that are leader specific, the officer is only in charge of 4 things. Now you divide that among these new ranks, and each one only has 1-2 descisions to make, and that seems pretty pointless to me. Now that may not make alot of sense in type, because I am not good with words, but trust me, I don't think adding more ranks is the way to go.
And when you say that people can work to attain something, they can always attain more check marks in their responsibility section. That is alot like gaining a new rank. If we made the officer profiles public to the guild, people could marvel at the amount of responsibility you have earned, and then they could all love you.

This is needed. Too many idiots play this game to allow even half the chances this game does for people to screw things up.

I could not agree with your perspective more. Great idea and great images to show you mean. I think that Anet should really read this post and institute something like this in the game.
Great job bro.

Guild membership involves several different privileges, in a similar way to forum membership. In a forum like this you can determine who can do what by making groups of members, and each group gets a set of privileges. The base privileges to choose from for a guild would be
1. Leadership (like Admin) which can make and name the groups (or guild ranks), and assign anyone in the guild to any group.
2. Invite guest (temporary visitor)
3. Invite member (at an initial low rank without any privileges)
4. Promote member to your own privilege group (such as officer)
5. Demote privileged member to basic member without privileges
6. Kick member out of guild
7. Revoke guest's privilege
8. Rename privilege groups
9. Initiate ranked GvG battle
With this structure, the existing guild system would be represented as one privilege group called Officers with at least privileges 2,3,4 and 6, and one unprivileged group called Members.
Separating the privileges like this into arbitrary groups (with perhaps a limited number of groups) would be far more flexible and meet most guilds customisation requirements.
Anyone designated a co-leader should appear in a leadership category in the roster, and this category should also be renameable by the leaders.
