Galrath = DESTROYED!
Asrial
The Villainy of Galrath.
I've done this quest 2x before, once with henchmen and once with some people, and I HATED every minute of it BOTH times.
So, when it came to do it this 3rd time, I resigned myself to a possible 4 hour quest. I resigned myself to having a character, who I do not like to let die, die. I resigned myself to alot of frustration.
However! I may be pessimistic, but I'm not an idiot.
I really should have gone to bed is what I should have done, but I was in the mood to keep playing Guild Wars.
So, the first step was.. see if I could scrounge up a group.
Preferring an 8 person party to a 6 person party (see, smart), I start asking around the Temple of Ages. I manage to add 2.
I pop over to the Hot Springs, add another. I pop over to Lion's Arch, and add 2 more.
First snag was that not everyone could get to the Temple of Ages, so we all decide to meet up at the Hot Springs and I resign myself to a 6 person party. Oh well.
Second snag was that not everyone could get to the Hot Springs, bah. Easy enough to run that, so I popped in the warrior I have access to and (after making sure everyone was aware of what was going on -- I did NOT want to lose people to mis-communication) ran a couple members of the group over to the Hot Springs.
Get to the Hot Springs and the third snag is that one of the members is AFK and not answering, while we're all getting ready to move out. I figure we can bring Alesia to help with the healing (I came stacked as a serious divine healing monk). Another sign, another resignation. ..but wait!
A group of 2 were looking to do the quest (which in this area would make us 7 of 6, blast).
Alright, that's it! I make the decision to get people run to the temple.
We all run to the temple while one member of the other group waits for us there. Now we have a party of 7!
Finally the guy who was AFK comes back and I feel bad cause he waited all this time for me because I asked him to and we left him. Bad bad timing. So apparently, on his end he's tracking down a runner to take him to the temple while we're fiddling with getting an 8th in our area. We finally get an 8th, but she has to go to a guild meeting so that doesn't last and FINALLY this guy shows up (as we were almost about ready to take Alesia). I'm really glad he made it because then it's a win win win situation (I feel better, he doesn't feel left out, and we don't have to take Alesia).
On the run to the temple, I discovered that we had a minion master in our group and I'm starting to get a good feeling. I feel that it's not going to be THAT bad, this time around.
Finally we're ready, and finally we move out. A war party of 8 looking to trash Galrath.

Again, my past two experiences were horrible so I turned on some music (a 2 hour track) and was going to make the comment of "okay, we have 2 hours to do this in cause that's when my music ends", but decided against it. I didn't want anyone to leave for fear of it being a REALLY long quest.
To make an already long story short...
WE BLASTED THE **** OUT OF EVERYTHING IN OUR WAY!!
Galrath was defeated in 50 minutes. 1 person died. There were 2 pets and they only died a combined 3x. There was only 1 level 20.
As we started to tear into the heart of the end area, my jaw was dropping from the amazing success we were having. I'm very... picky.. about the people I quest with and I'd quest with these guys again in a heartbeat.

Lucky, I did this quest with Henches. It took me a little over three hours. ^_^;

WTF??? I did this quest in 20 minutes with my guildies. 3 Hours???? OMG
Mordakai
I guess I got lucky... piggy-backed my 16th lev. mesmer with a bunch of 20th level chars, and we just chew through this mish (from ToA) on my first try.

Yeah, 4 freakin' hours with 60%DP through most of the quest. The number of times I died, it would've been upwards of 2000%DP if it wasn't capped at 60. I'll never do that again, with henchies at least.
The first time I tried it was with an army of candy corn henchies. Not very successful (at all), but kinda fun.

That's weird...whenever I do this mission I always use henchies and beat it little under a hour with mininal deaths.....o.O

Seriously, though, that was the hardest part when I did it with hench. They love standing in their poison.

Well...there's not a lot that rules out that I suck at that quest. What level were you when you did it? I do know that I would have taken along a better skill set, but I was already so far in, I didn't want to start over.
Murder In China
My character was around level 18 or so when I did the quest.
Volarian
Unlike others I won't praise myself + henchies in how fast we got it done (#1 Don't do henchie groups much #2 This thread isn't about me nor was it about those who posted about themselves).
I would like to know how it was taking so long to complete for those who timed in at several hours up to 3-4 hrs?? Where did you leave from if not ToA? What was the average level of character in your group(s)? Didn't you have a tank run to the first zone area?
Just curious because, yes the quest can be time consuming for lower level parties, 1 monk parties or the inexperienced players but for any quest/mission to take 3-4hrs??? wow.

I was level 16 soul-sucking tank. Most of my problems came from henchies getting killed (Alesia tanking, henchies taking a poison bath). Once the henchies started dropping off (and gaining DP), they'd drop off quicker the next round, then the next, until I was usually the only one standing after 5-10 seconds into any battle. As the only target, well...I can solo fine in other areas, but soloing while dragging dead-henchie-weight through Villiany sucks.
I started from Bergen Hot Springs. I'll never start that mission again from anywhere other than the Temple.

i got bored one day and tried to solo this thing with a modification of my farming build (pre-AoE nerf)...got all the way to the castle but couldn't quite get to Galrath himself...too many ppl slowing me down as i tried to run to him...i prolly could have done it with a prot monk with spell breaker...
KazeMitsui
dude this quest does not take 4hrs.... its pretty simple... ive done it many times cause of guildies but my first time was with henches and maybe did it in like 40 min....... are you going all over tyria for this quest?
Eugaet
I did feel like I was going all over Tyria. But like I said, I started from Bergen Hot Springs. Didn't know about Temple at the time, hadn't located it.
Holy crap, just looked at a map. Starting from Bergen doubled the travel distance. Looks like the henchmen go from lvl12 at Hot Springs to lvl15 at ToA, too. And with an 8-man party from ToA? Yeah, that would have been much easier.

One thing I learned early on with henchies and being a Warrior........have a longbow equipped in a weapon slot.......for all the poison puddles along the way while doing VoG.....you can at least pluck an arrow in a mob and back off a lil w/o henchies bathing in the guck!!.
Hiryu
I found it was pretty easy with 7 henchies (at the Temple of Ages). Took me less than an hour on my 2nd and 3rd times through.
Calling targets seems to be the trick, since henchmen will actually follow your targets and drop it.
It was a lot harder with just 5 henchies though.

i helped two of my friends do this quest with my warrior. so 3 people and 5 henchies make it to galrath with a couple of DPs on the hench. We decide to rush past all of the verata goons and kill Galrath directly (always been my favored style for this quest).
Funny funny thing. My friends both die and all the henchmen die except Alesia! So heres my warrior pummeling on Galrath while being surrounded by him and 4 bandits and Alesia is off in the proper distance and healing me! She wasnt tanking! ^^ I couldnt have asked for a better turnout. I killed them off and my friends quest updated while they were dead and i got more flowers for my effort ^^; I lurve those irises...

I solod it with my 17 war/mo. Took like 15min to run there from TOA. First time I tried was at 15 and i was sword, it was a stalemate. Second time @ 17 I was axe and had distrubting chop so it was easy.. 5min fight at most.
Really no hard parts to it, just sprint through the mobs.. biggest two bottlenecks is when you are about to make the bend from swamp to "normal" area and then the minotaur area. After that don't sprint until you pass the 4 bandits about to hit the plateu. Run to the opposite corner, kill off the couple bandits that guard galreth, and then own him.

took me about 2 hours with hench. Sure glad I had Rebirth as I had to draw them from their spots of death to my area outside the agro circle... eventually I just made a mad dash for Galrath with henchies in tow and surprisingly enough made it past that huge mass of hex casters near him. We killed him pretty quickly after that though... was really satisfying.
Numa Pompilius
I really, really, doubt you guys who do it in under one hour is actually doing the quest and not just a) doing it with droks armor, elite skills and preferrably a full team of level 20 guildies or b) using running skills to run past everything and ganking Galrath seconds before getting killed yourself.
2-3 hours seem reasonable to me if you're fighting through the quest, haven't been twinked, and is at a suitable level for the area.

Ok, we started from D'alesso. i thought it was mission, but it was galrath. i didn't have quest. we tried once, died right outside. we met in LA. i grabbed quest, and RAN all the way to the TOA, went WRONG way from there, and ended up by the quest area of False gods. i zoned out thinking this was the way, realized i went the wrong way, and had the perfect excuse of helping them get the quest. then i ran to the zone that galrath's in. we get to galrath, see al the vereta's, 2 leave. we attack, get blown like SH!T. we only have a N/Mo with rebirth alive..(Thank Dwayna for that) Necro reses us, but all be me and another die, one within range of IWAY. i RUN through all the vereta crap, get to galrath. we have about a 90 min battle between him and me, (I'm a lvl 20 invinci war farm build, keeping a not bad healing hands and mending on me) and he kept healing himself.

This random guy solo'd it for 1k. He really did solo it. I payed to see him do it. Alas i forgot his name.

Henchies are better than people think. Once you get the hang of leading them around you can pretty much get through any mission quickly alone. Thats how my Mesmer and Ranger beat the game.. I did all of the missions after ascension with henchies.
Sol_Vie
I like to leave this quest to one of the last ones I do in the entire game to alleviate most stress. Right now I'm gearing up to go do it with any guildies that need help with my warrior that just beat all the missions. It should be a great deal of fun. If anyone else wants to tag along, give me a shout- Champion of Althea.

Congratulations! Not only for completing the quest, but for your good fortune of finding enough people patient enough, and aware enough to handle the leapfrogging of outposts. Those are the people that know a well coordinated patient effort is almost always faster than than a hurried one. I love the rare occasion I hook up with a group like yours in this case.

Things to note while soloing galrath, he uses:
Dismember
Healing Signet(uses this alot, he stops using @ 10% hp)
Wild Blow(he uses this alot)
hes lvl20 and has if not higher armor then a platemil warrior, tried all sorts of ways to beat him, then tried a w/me, using Illusionary Weaponry, battle lasted 3 minutes flat, he managed to activate my Illusion of Weakness.

A little late (blame work). We're talking about a slug fest without major detours, not a Forge run.
My first time was completely with henchmen (5) and a ranger. I just did not have the offensive firepower to win the major fights, and so I had to resort to the taking down a few at a time. One thing alot of you don't realize, because you don't die, is that it can start taking a good 5 minutes of running to get back to where you were.
Run for 5 minutes, kill a few, respawn. Repeat. I FINALLY made it to Galrath but I don't remember how I beat him.
The 2nd time was helping a guild member. I forget how it was all set up. It wasn't as annoying, but still encountered a number of respawns.
This was the 3rd, and best, time.

THIS is what I most enjoy about Guild Wars. You never know what you're going to get and so getting the gold is all that much sweeter
Lexar
I did it solo as a w/r. It was fairly easy, to be honest, but it took long for me. Got a nice reputation in the guild for it too
The only thing is, take an interrupt old galrath and me were at a stalemate for a good 15 minutes because I couldn't interrupt his heal sig. The bigger problem was the whole army before the hill where galrath waits. But if you manage to run past, they'll forget about you.

Hodor
I regularly solo this with my wamo when out of favour to pass the time. I don't run, I kill everything. Galrath hates me

Nigy
I remember when i first did that quest. Man it was hard when everyone got to 60% dp, we had no chance agains mobs, so run we did. And made it too. 'twas awsome.
Mavrik
My first time through this mission with my ele, I died as did all but 1 of the others in the group. He used res on a necro and together they beat Galrath. I go the points for the mission even though I was dead thankfully. Second time through I did as mentioned before, with henchies... To this day I'm still not sure what was easier... both times were tough but with hench, I actually got to battle Galrath.
saphir
Galrath with at least 1 lvl 20 going from TOA takes a mere 25 to 30 minutes, especially if you run the first zone. I do it all the time when we don't have favor on my lvl 20 minion master to help out the lower levels. You can pretty much burn through the minotaurs and other mobs w/ a minion necro and have an army of 25-30 undead by the time you get to the boss Tachi.
On the other hand, the first time I did Galrath on my first char (fire ele) about a month after the game had been released, everyone picked up the quest in Lion's Arch and that was where most people started. I was somewhere between level 13 and 15 at that time, the typical level most players are by LA, and the highest level in our party was 16 i think. At this time people were still trying to fight their way through Lornar's pass, so no one had Droknar's armor and I still only heard rumors of this place called "Forge".
Who would have thought that for a measly 500 xp, this quest would take us 2 to 3 hours thru some of the most dangerous swamps in the game for our level? The party I was with had already attempted it once or twice. As a very new player to the game, this was where I learned the concept of a ranger pulling (he pulled the very fast, crisscrossing nightcrawler and necrid horseman patrols in the Black Curtain zone). I don't think anyone in our party knew about toa, or any of the other towns along the way with the exception of Bergen. We completed the mission on our second attempt, after about 2 hours and 30 minutes. It was probably the best adventure I'd ever had in Guild Wars, an epic for that time if you will. The teamwork, the trekking through uncharted poisonous swamps, the sudden ambushes by patrols and nightcrawler spawns, and the knowledge that if we may be slaughtered due to the slightest mistake made the quest a memorable one.
None of these quickie 30 minute runs from toa. GW really needs more quests like these.

its not hard at all, even in normal armor for that region (60af ish?), easily soloable. +3 mending owns his damage, throw in a healing sig every now and then and your hp is good. now to stop him from healing. distrupting chop, works beautiful. dmg i used executioners strike & penetrating blow. took like 5min to kill him.
And if you play the game (not getting ran) you can easily be 17 by the time you hit TOA area. Hell I see lvl 11s still in pre-searing.

ok. I've done this mission once. And i was just chilling in ToA with another one of my characters, when i see someone saying they'll "run" villainy of galrath. I figure, well, ok.... so i joined him. Amazingly enough, he got it done in about 15 minutes while the rest of our group just chilled. I didn't know it could be solo'd, and i haven't EVER seen a runner for this mission since. Why????
Mister Overhill
The first time I did it with henchmen, I was just standing there thinking about what to do, when good old Stefan decided to charge up the hill and aggro some mobs. Have no idea what possessed him, but for once he got it right.
While he was busy getting killed, the rest of us just slipped past, and took out the bandits and Galrath in that order. Only easy time I've had on that mission.
