That was amazingly helpful Luggage. I appreciate it. I wonder if there's a community who wouldn't mind doing that for more areas. I'll try and get that done for the Yak's Bend area, although I'm not the most enthusiastic about exploring so I probably won't find half of em.

I think I'll keep it up, it's easy to hit "U" and "Print Screen" every time I hit a armor collector.

For the weapon- and "other stuff"-collectors it's hard to know if it's worth it since they dont list the modifiers, if any.

For example the collector outside Gates of Kryta had +15E -1E regen wands but I would never have known unless I allready had all the Singed Hearts and had to accept a wand to see what he offered. The list just said 5-12 wand...

Yeah, the items collectors offer often have hidden bonuses or modifiers which aren't mentioned when they offer them. And, yes, the only way of finding most of it out is to trade for the item.

The air wand is rather nice, especially since it only takes 10 minutes to get the scalps.

I've got the exact same stats listed for this item. I'm a mesmer so I don't think 'special' items have random properties. It's just a matter of if that person may have class specific armor such as the gloves. When I made my list I just marked which ones came out as blue items. I should have marked which ones I traded for. In the future I will do this.

When I first started playing the game during the BWEs, I thought the concept of the Collectors was pretty neat. But as I looked at them, I found that the Collector's reward items were pretty uniformly sub-par... I typically already had better or could easily get better equipment through other means.

Now that the game has been released, I'm pleasantly surprised to find that the collectors actualy offer items and equipment that is actually usable. In some cases it far exceeds what could be acquired through more normal means. The stats which the collect claims are often much lower than the actual item. Many of the items are "blue", or have much higher bonuses that you might expect. More importantly, the bonuses seem to be tailored to aid the player in completing the missions in that area.

So, last night I spent a few hours surveying collectors. I only did one region, Old Ascalon, and only used a single character. I was able to get every collector item, save two. I compiled all of this into a pretty user-friendly format. Here is the result of my efforts:

I should note that this a Work In Progress. I plan on going back tonight and filling in those last two blanks and also running a couple of different classes aroud to check these five collectors for class-specific items. After that, I'll start looking for collectors in other Ascalon regions. I know there are quite a few of them out there.

Just to clarify though, Stupid.

Penelope Hood's Inscribed Chakram and Bone Staff are the two you don't have, as indicated by non-bold/blue, right?

Yeah. I was a bit dissapointed with the Collector's at first until I noticed a Collector at Piken had a Rinblade.

Since I had an old Rinblade and it provided nice defense, I was thinkin, "Well, let's see what this one does."

And, DAYUM, was I impressed.

There were several updates WHILE I was collecting (no pun intended) data. Yes, the non-bolded stuff on Penelope Hoode were the last two items that I still had not seen. I'll update what I've got on there with your information.

The Ascalon Aegis was a Crimson Carapce Shield when I got it. I actually have two screenshots of the exact same shield, taken less than two hours apart, with different names. No stats changed.

Sadly, the War Hammer of Fortitude that I got from Innis -did- change stats. When I oringially got it, it was a flat +25 vs. Charr -- which was incredibly overpowered. I was able to solo (really solo, not just "solo with henchmen") the first few Ascalon missions and gathered four minor Runes in the process. I'm actually sorry I took time out to level up a new Ranger and Necro character, or I could have solo'ed all the way to Yak's Bend with that super Charr-killing Hammer. The version I had in my inventory last night (midnight pacific time on May 11) had been changed to a flat +5 vs. Charr, and not a 25% bonus as others claim. I wonder what would have happened if I had salvaged out the +25 vs Charr hilt and upgraded a different hammer with that...

The point is that these items are most definitely IN FLUX and can change without any notice at all.

Doing the web stuff is pretty easy. Taking the time to gather the data is the hardest part.

Hah! This is flux? This is minor tweaking when you've been around as long as I have. You just get used to it.

And, yes, quest reward items can't be salvaged. They an be sold, however, and they usually bring you a much better return in gold than the average drop for that area will.

At the request of Rex, I've expanded my focus to a complete Area Guide for the Old Ascalon area. I took the liberty of linking in as much of the existing information here as was still (mostly) correct.

I've edited the link up-thread to point to the now much-more-complete guide. Permission is granted to guildwarsguru.com to copy to thier server, but NOT to link to it. I do pay for bandwidth, so a direct link would cost me $$$ and I -will- remove it if this costs me money.

This took two days of my time to put together. I'll do the other explorable areas next I think. It's kind of a fun project for now, but I suspect I'll lose interest when I go to E3 and get a week away from playing.

correct me if i'm wrong, but....

i've noticed that the collectors offer different items for different professions. for example, those same 5 jade mandibles referenced above, gave my elementalist a +1 Air or Water mastery headpiece. what's true for 1 prof, may/maynot be true for others. my local list of collectors doesn't compare with what you've all put together here. but you'll have to precursor your lists (maybe) with professions that they are valid for.

It may turn out to be a database compilation you'll need to put together.
