Been raising a new crop...
This is a modification of my Ripost-o-matic build, to better accomodate the perils encountered while Wurm hunting. The biggest change I would make IF I had a req. 8 sword would be to pump points into Healing and use Live Vicariously as my permanent enchantment. I do NOT recommend Vigorous Spirit (though you could try) simply because it's not maintained and you could get in trouble with Concussion Shot trying to cast it.
It would behoove you to invest in a Zealous Hilt, especially since they're so cheap. In this case, it regens energy MUCH faster than Balthazaar's Spirit ever could (as long as you're not blind, hence Mend Ailment). And frees up a skill slot.
Final thrust could be replaced with Power Attack, Sever Artery, or really any other +damage melee or sword skill. I just chose Final Thrust on this run because I wanted to do 65 damage to a Sand Wurm. Damn things' AL must be in the thousands...
Why Mend Ailment? Well, once you learn the Wurm Run (no I'm not telling you, it's easy enough to find on your own), you'll know to expect getting blinded a LOT. Enchanted Bows love throwing dirt into your eyes, and Sand Elementals love their Eruption spell.
I can get 20 shells a day easily with this, if I put in the time. Been farming more with my Monk lately, trying to earn back the 120k I spent in runes before the retard patch on 11/10. But the show goes on...

Or you could use tanzits defender and not even bring mend ailment, and then you could sub in flurry to help quickly replenish adrenaline from final thrust and riposte...

Yeah it's very tweakable, and I'm sure many variations will come of it.
For those who can afford Tanzit's, no problem. I always try to recommend the cheapest equipment possible (since not everybody has my kind of money), hence my trusty 5k Thorgall's. And I prefer instant recovery from blindness over quick recovery. When you hit a group of 2 or 3 Enchanted Bows, if you can't get the blindness off fast, you might as well respawn. As soon as it wears off from one, the other will immediately Throw Dirt, so you'll always be blind unless you can remove it quickly and cause them to waste their spell (it has a 45 seconds recharge).

chippxero
Guardian of the Light surely you're not getting the most out of your sword as ther Req is 9 and you only have your swordmanship up to 8.
Skuld
Guardian, where did you get that healing ankh? I need one!
crunch666
What kind of drops can you expect? I mean, do they just drop shells and gold?

Health +45 (while enchanted)
For 2 less energy, you can get your Healing down to 8 (+3 Mending only requires 8), and raise your Swordsmanship to 9 (as was stated by chippxero) to get the full benefit of the sword. But, nice mod! I hadn't even thought of the extra health from the collector's ankh.

"Just" drop shells? Heh, you know what those are worth, right? The singular purpose of this build is to get shells.

I suppose, I hope this build doesn't reduce the current price of shells . Anyways I love the build, great job!

were to you find the wurms, i haven't been able to find a single place that they are at and hydras and minotors are getting a bit boring now
kvndoom That run will pop out 3-6 Wurms every time. What you do with them is your business. Queto

O I can't believe it I forgot to take the attriubute points from the smiting prayers and put them into the Sword again >.< Anyways now it works fine.
Yes the Healing Anhk was from drokar's but I heard about the one that give 2 less energy but I wanted a max one because I also use it in my super tank build for Shield/focus Swaping Cheapest way to get a farming build for this when you have platemail/knights: 1.Buy Major Absorbation and Vigor at LEAST! 2.Get the Collect's Healing Ankh from the guy meantioned above. 3. Get a MAx collecter's sword (I think I got one from this guy outside heroes) 4. Buy a Zealous sword hilt and a Sword grib of defense/fortude And now your a farmer it may take a while fro you to get used to farming. Xion
i've tried a variation of this build based on the 55hp monk, works like charm too

One day, I'll find a way to make a W/N do wurm runs...
Got to go sword though it seems since swords go through armor better than axes thanks to higher dps vs. spike damage being resisted by super high armor... Racthoh

I'm thinking something along these lines: Victory Is Mine! {E} Dolyak Signet For Great Justice! Riposte Deadly Riposte Desperation Blow Flurry Rotting Flesh Not sure about the attributes but at max tactics you'd be shooting out 72 health ViMs, FGJ + Flurry + Riposte for 63 damage blocks pretty much every other attack. Whether or not it's enough defense would be the only concern I can think of, then again Desperation Blow can inflict 4 different conditions on top of Rotting Flesh... so a lot of health every 15 seconds. Might work. Plus, 0 attribute sword builds are fun. Yukito Kunisaki

I'm not getting extra gear for my energy But you do have an idea for me to work on if it's a one on one fight with a Wurm... 8+1+3 Swordsmanship 9+1 Strength 9+1 Tactics 10 Death Magic Sever Artery Gash Riposte Deadly Riposte Bonetti's Defense Dolyak Signet Plague Touch Virulence {E} Disease won't spread to you since you're not a Wurm [whew] But I think this could help a large chunk in fact... kvndoom
Wasting your time with hexes. Last week I made my Monk a Necro secondary, capped Spiteful Spirit, and went to the Wurms.
Curses was at 12, which means an 18 second SS. It lasted 6 seconds on a Wurm. They have 66% reduction time in hexes AND conditions. The hex was over before the damn spell could even recharge. The good news for a smiter is that they don't run from AoE, so you can actually make use of Balthazaar's Aura or Symbol of Wrath. You have to damage them directly or as they attack you, and not rely on conditions or hexes. Very, very resilient bastages. Epinephrine

Thought they were snapping out of weakness a bit fast. I guess it triples the efficiency of Parasitic Bond at least... Guardian of the Light
Uh oh
Crap this isn't impopular Kyle
Do you need a max dmg sword or is most of your dmg comming from reposites?? (sp)

Most comes for Ripostes
Anyone else find it ironic that the best place to farm is the desert in GW ? Secret chief
I farm em with my W/E
12 earth 13 tactics +1 7 strength +1 +3 this is far from being the best setup for attributes, but i m not gonna buy a helm for wurm hunting i made 5k in an 1h 1/4, i m not sure its profitable enough Glad defence armor of earth bonnettis d healing sig riposte deadly riposte Obsidian flame // desperation blow sprint i deal no dmg with the sword, obsidian is good for armor penetration, desperation blow has +36 dmg and a chance of deep wound armor of earth makes them hit for 0-1 dmg, they die fairly fast, scarabs are ez to kill with this build and for enchanted armor i kill melees and leave the bow at teleport kvndoom
It's luck of the draw how often you get shells. I once got 5 in a row, then killed almost 10 wurms before I got another one. But I invariably get about 20 a day if I spend a few hours doing so. Of course with my 55HP monk, there are other advantages, because I can go after other creatures in the area (but I shall not elaborate on that just yet...)

Well I don't think 20k in a few hours (pict showing them being sold at 1k, get about 20 in a few hours) is anything that Anet views as top priority as far as the nerf bat goes. Don't get me wrong, it's fun and it's good gold, but you gotta figure that the solo monk still rakes in the cash faster in UW (favor pending).
kvndoom
Nerf Sand Wurms? How?!? Fewer drops = massive increase in sell price of Bleached Shells (only way to get 45/2 stance shield, lest we forget, and for that alone, 1k per shell is a hella bargain). Massive increase in price of shells = people seeking "alternative" ways to acquire gold to buy those shells. And I think you know what I mean.
Charr Killer
what is the most conditions will you have on you at a time?
Mend Ailment is good if you have like 2 or 3 conditons Mend Condition is good if you only have 1 Lou
you cant mend condition yourself....you should really read the skill description before saying anything.

Glad you guys are enjoying the build. Not much new as of yet, but a guildie suggested subbing Gash for Final Thrust. This works quite well, since Deadly Riposte causes bleeding. All you have to do is get the Wurm to 20% health and make sure he's still bleeding, then use Gash and it's instant death. The sweet spot is right around the "S" in "Sand Wurm":
No point in using it any sooner, but it's a quick way to finish them off once you have them on the ropes. Gotta figure a level 22 is around 500 health, so that's good for ~100 in one swipe. Retribution X

Yeah, that's about it. Axes also work if you go spiker, then REVERSE. the first spike hits, taking ~100 dmg off him, then when they are recharged, bam! he was dead.
Archaeus
How do you get past the group of Enchanged Swords/Bows/hammers (spawns vary) right outside Dunes, before the teleporter? I'm running your build on my W/Mo, with platemail armor, but I can't seem to make it past them. (Tried running, but the swords have hamstring...)
Marcello99
You make good money off of this?
Katari
The build I use is:
16 Tact Req on sword Rest Str Ripoiste Desperation Blow (Mostly for the +42 damage) Deadly Riposte Gash (Just to make sure you apply a Deep Wound) Glad's Defense Bonett's Dolyak Sig Heal Sig Not sure how other forms of Degen would do, but I would say that monk-healing spells are completly unessacary. Bonetti's is only needed if 2+ Wurms spawn, otherwise I guess you could brind Mend Ailment, or Spirnt to help skip the forgottens. Ristaron
