This is very similar to Kapper's IDS build, only difference is he is using a sword instead of axe...

Are you running elemental resistance?
berko
Daiken Beowulf you need to switch your secondary to Mesmer because of the Elemental Resistance. When ER is on the damage you recieve will decrease enormously.
With Elemental Resistance + Dolyak Signet, you really shouldn't receive much damage from imps at all.
You could probably try with an equivalent Earth or Water spells, like maybe Armor of Earth, or Armor of Mist.

IF i do use elemental skill i use ward against elements, but that one sucks.. i need something that stops the ice dmg

Yikes, who ressurected this corpse??
Daiken, as I tell anyone and everyone, if you don't listen, the blame is on you. Two guys just told you what your problem is, and there's no way around it. Without Elemental Resistance, you're just going to get destroyed. The equipment, armor, and skills recommended are chosen for a reason. When I go there (I make a run occasionally for nostalgia purposes), I get numbers like this:
Yes if you count them, I have somewhere between 18 and 20 Ice Imps aggroed, and I'm just laughing them off. And I had already killed 4 before I took this screenshot. Even the new Siege Ice Golems do almost no damage to me at all. Who cares about Rust if you never have to heal?
But hey, do it your own way if you must, just don't complain about getting waxed.

First, thank everyone for all the great info,
My problem seems to be on the slope just before you get into the caves. I can usually run without dying to that point, but just before the entrance is littered with avicara, ice imps, an ice golem or so, and a troll i beleive, all muddled together. I can't run past them since they slow me, and I can't just toss on the elemental protection as then the avicara chew me up. I tried standing and fighting but, I find I can't beat the avicara there. the build is the standard w/m axe build introduced here. Is this a common problem, or do i just have to figure out how to beat up the avicara better...
cheers

Just Kill the Giants
Just posting this in case anyone else had this problem
By the way, I don't have the defend droks quest but I still the slew of giants outside the entrance to the narrow path where you make the final run up to the caves. The problem for me is that i never yet recieved the defend droks quests, but I still enjoy running around in this area just to find places.
I used to try and out run the giants which is a pain, but then i realized I can just beat the crap out of all of them. Its quite easy with dolyaks sig since they never knock you down and you have all day to heal with heal sig. Take on a small group, pummell them and then go. At the same time you get to earse some DP if you happen to have any.

Ice imps and ice golems are all nice and easy but what do you do when the bloody chickens spawn mixed with them at then entrance of the cave (which they always do for me)
Luring them away fails miserably and fighting is just plain suicide.
I've read through this entire topic and i must say i'm surprised i havent seen people with the same problem

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a big thanks to everyone who posted and especially those who did the hard work of figuring this out and sharing the knowledge! I got my first icy dragon swords, so I am a happy fellow. CHEERS!

I frequently have the same problem. I'm not sure if its just random spawn placement that you can't do anything about or not. I suspect it has something to do with the amount of time it takes you to get there. If I have a long run there, they seem to be located in with the imps. If you make it in at a reasonable pace they are separated and it is easier to lure them back and run past em.
Illusion
ok i can get to caves but what do you do with the trolls that like joinin imps i cant get past em
Winstar
Well, theres not much you can do other than take them down. Take them out first. There numbers vary, not always the same number, I can recall times when there were none. The Ice Golems seem to vary as well. Basically keep your armour up and swing away.
codered
i dont understand how you take 0 damage is it your armour or the skills your using??
sh4ft3d
that would be the skills...

Sever Artery

Charge! obviously just speeds the run up a bit, if I didn't take it I'd probably have Watch Yourself or Healing Hands instead.
Put Mending on for the whole run, then LV before entering the cave. Obviously you won't have any energy regen now, but you don't need energy with this build.
What I do is pull groups of imps with a bow and immediately walk away to pull because the ice hexes slow you down; sometimes it helps to hit Sprint to get a little extra distance. I use Glad's chest & leg armor for +5 energy, so after casting the 2 enchants, I have 20 energy, which gives 4 uses of a 5 energy cost skill.
I use a Shocking Long Sword of Warding, 15^50, Ele armor +7 and Thorgall's Shield (Malinon's, if I had it :P ) for the imps, and Crimson Carapace stance shield with an HP+ weapon for the run.
I find that Shocking does more damage than when I had a Fire hilt, could be just me tho.

ok so the skills are what makes it so the imps hit barely nothing thats good to know
codered
but wouldn't mantra of frost be good on the imps as well?

Somehow siege ice golems keep casting rust on me which SERIOUSLY slows healing sig..any suggestions on how to avoid this?

dont feel no pain
well when i do it i usualy take 0-2 dmg , but mostly 0 ,
if i wanted all my dmg to be 0 i'd have
15 strength
so that doyalk sigit is +40 all the time (20 duration , 20 rechrage)
watchyourself (+20 armor always if you keep it up)
ele resitance (+40 armor always)
ok so thats + 100 armor ,
gladiators (80 armor (+20 vs pshycial)) is usualy the best armor in farming
but this is ele dmg therefore you should have plate (85 armor (+10 vs pshyical)
so thats 185 armor
take knights boots (-2 dmg)
and have suprior absorbtion on your chest peice( major will do ok aso lonas you got everything else i think)
your weapon will be axe/sword of warding (+7 vs elemental dmg)
now your sheild will do a lot of effect in the run
you should have one of these
16 armor (req whatever)
+8 armor (vs water attacks)
-2 stance
if you were to take this your total armor and dmg redction would be agaisn't the imps 196 armor and -7 dmg
or 16 armor (req whatever)
-3 (while hexed) which would be mind freeze
-2 (stance)
if you were to take this would final armor and dmg redution would be agaisn't the imps 188 armor and -10 dmg
they are both very effecive
now thats al lthe stacking i can think of.

Wyvern Armor with knight's boots
+5 defense sword pommel
-2 stance, -3 hexed shield for the cave itself (the most expensive part of my get-up). If America happens to have favor when I'm in the cave, I get my 100-gold Mending and switch to Malinon's Shield (45/2 enchanted). I run with a 45/2 stance shield
major absorption rune (yes, major - I have too many armor sets to be buying superiors for each)
Really, not much fancy about it. Max your defense and absorption to the best you can afford.

Hmm I can get to the cave, but those stupid birds are always guarding it, therefore I die. I find it difficult soloing the birds because of ineptitude/hexes/aggro. Tips?

You're just getting a bad spawn. It happens. Sometimes you have enough breathing room to get past the chickens and get to the imps when that happens, sometimes you don't. Rezone and retry is all I can tell you.
Hell, once I had Thunderwing 7 times in a row, (before I learned the joys of the Lt. Helm, and before said joys were nerfed) and I won't repeat the stream of execrations that flowed from my mouth due to THAT level of frustration.

Dang that's horrible, I keep getting those spawns. I havent seen Thunderwing though so it seems that's the only good thing Im getting out of it, lol. I'll keep trying, hoping I get past those dumb chickens.

FYI, the w/mo build I use doesn't seem to work anymore with the new Ice Golems in the cave. It used to work great, just as good if not better than w/me's I'd farm with. Oh well : (
stillious
How can u get past those icy golems? theyre so irritating i can't even get to the cave><
.killjoy
Yes many more golems and trolls doing more dmg then anyone thought. and rust is a bitch , i recommend doing this dual now its alot faster both use same builds or change 2 skills as me and my friend do and take 2 siges and 1 troll down pretty fast when they are in the cave..
And favor helps!!
And favor helps!!

i cant get to the cave .am i just a shit runner or is there a trick to it

You should take balanced stance with you, if you can't get past the giants that keep on knocking you down. This will also help you get past some of the Dolyaks. Sometimes, it's just a crappy spawn. Good luck
Seaman_yemen
i cant do it :-/ they moved the ice imps to outside the cave to close to the avacari so i get hexes and ice spells
dont feel no pain
just a bad spawn , i've had them mixed with the avicara but a good longbow did some nice pulling, just use stragagy , even if the imps and aviacara are together all you have to do is pull the imps and kill them , then run past the avaicara into the cave, Only on realy realy bad spawns its impossible but mst of the time you can do it , just bad luck if it was bad.

Yup, that's a bad spawn.
Sometimes I get bad spawns too - aka, 3 trolls right outside the cave. Luckily today, in 1 hour, I got 4 ids, so I'm happy. All those failed IDS runs are now worth it.

how the hell do you guys manage it to have 0 damage every time?! i just need to keep spamming healing sig just to keep surviving against those beasts!
