What will candy canes be worth eventually?
Art
My guess is anywhere from 100-500 gold...in other words I have no idea really.
All I know is that there will be a LOT of them out there for many many months to come. I myself have about 450 and will probably get 2 or 300 more. Say there are 100,000 out there...how high can the price really go?
I havent seen any posts about how long the holiday festivities last...if its thru New Years, there will SOOO many candy canes I'm not sure they will ever have the value many farmers are hoping for.

If you are farming for candy canes, I have pity. That's like making a game a chore...

PvP is well... I dunno. I get frustrated easily I guess. A loss in pvp will actually kill my mood for like, a half an hour (which is weird because I've spent like, 2 hours in mineral springs before with a 45% death penalty with henchies trying to cap shit there, and did it... so it's not like I always give up so easily).
So some of us farm. I figure it'll be good to have the coinage on hand for all the new stuff Ch2 is going to bring.
Malchior Devenholm
true candy canes remove all dp, but i hope ppl aren't farming for them just to sell em off in mass numbers...thats kind of sad...dp's bad but hopefully it dont get THAT bad...
Vilaptca
Nothing because I'm farming them too and then giving them away.
Guardian of the Light
Well they're an item that will disappear and has a lot of uses (outside of PvP) and they will be used up fast. Their price will spike around Feb.-March.
I love candy canes anyway
hmmm maybe I should be enjoy this time with my family since its Chrismas eve but whatever

I rarely have -DP. I have 60 canes on me which is way more than enough. I beat the game and I think I died maybe 30 times total.

idk how much they will be worth, but I won't be buying em. I've done fine without em for this long, so I'm not worried. I might far a bit more for em before the holiday is over, but I personally prefer to farm for green items. Their value is dropping fast and I already have jsut about all the greens I could ever want for my 6 chars (one of each prof), but for some reason I like farming for them more than any other item in the game. Plus they are always great gifts for good friends and guildmates. As for this Wintersday stuff...yea...Halloween was better and I hope Grenth PWNS dwayna...Hail Grenth...

Candy Canes are pretty situational and can only be used in PvE.
Sure, you can take off your DP and that's great but it's PvE.

What are candy cane weapons soppose to go for in a few months?
jimmy_logic
Nothing... its a novelty item. Unless there are some hardcore collectors that missed out when the event was on. Other than that I would say nothing but sentimental value.

I think they will be one of the removed items, i can't see Anet wanting them in game forever, I got some but just because i plan on some hardcore mission action over the holidays and they will help.
If they kept them in then 3 would last you months because there arn't many times you die enough that it matters, plus DP is so easy to get rid of in the first place.

I actually hope they're removed.
It's called "death penalty" for a reason you know.
All the other items wouldn't bother me that much, seeing as how they're basically just novelty items anyway. But the candy cane is an actual functioning item that does something that no item in the game can or should be able to do.
It's like a cheat item.
I'm cool with it as a fun little holiday treat, but I'd be a little perplexed if they stick around beyond the event.

ok i take all this back....i see the light now lol.....ok 1. they cant be used in pvp...which woulda been a big selling point...2 that guy is right dp is pretty easy to get rid of...and 3. i just sold my stash of 300 candy canes lol....whew good thing the guys thought it could be used in GvG...damn im mean...lmao...i just quoted myself...which i think is kinda cool
VGJustice
personally, I think the Candy Canes are gonna be worth a good bit later on, like in March as was said earlier, unless A.Net decides to get anal and makes them disapear (not likely).
As for Candy Cane Weapons, I think certain ones will be worth something to collectors and for VERY specific builds later on.
IMHO, neither is worth farming for or anything, but worth saving. Make a nice chunk of change in a couple of months. Also, Candy Canes helped me get some newbies through Iron Mines so I could get Oath Shot

Weapons are novelties... they just look so wrong but so fun at the same time.
Art
I think this is where I am too...if I can sell my canes for 200+ then I'll only hold a single stack as an investment.
Please not that if they can be sold for 200 at the moment then farming then is far from illogical. If you can get over 50 an hour (I can) then its as profitable as anything else.

They should be a must for a runner in my opinion. DP kills runners, they need these.

i think that the average person may get a dozen or two candy canes, the average hoarder will probably have 250...and once these are all used up, i could forsee them going for 1,000 each without much difficulty...2,000 by april or may would not surprize me. the dp removal isnt the greatest effect in the world, but its useful, especially in occasions when one moron gets half the party knocked off and the mission becomes near impossibile to mass-dp..they are merely conveniant. however, they are the closest thing anet has to life-potions, and in that respect, once they run out, their value should spike. i dont think it will get too high, because the average player who would use them most, cant afford to buy them fpr 5k or some other insane amount, but 1-2k would not at all surprize me.

will use sparingly

I would laugh my ass off if they took out candy canes after wintersday. I've sold like 30 gargoyle skulls for 100g each to people buying candy canes; they would be so far in debt they'd farm for days to make their money back.
I plan to sell more after I eat lunch with the family.

Here's how to get lots of them:
Take ranger primary or secondary - Edge of Extinction.
Go to Nolani Academy.
Go outside.
Kill bucketloads of gargoyles using E/E.
Swap 1 gargoyle skull for 1 candy cane from the necro collector at Ascalon.
Get hundreds of thousands of candy canes, give away lots in the spirit of Wintersday/Xmas/Whatever holiday you celebrate around this time of year, and be smug in the knowledge you've messed up someone's greedy exploits, because if they're totally commonplace nobody's going to pay for them (not much anyway)
Merry corporatemas :P

Hell Marauder
If everyone saves some candy canes, then no one should worry about exploit and price hike. I am saving lots of it so I'll never have to buy from someone else. Who knows, maybe missions in chapter 2 are going to be extremely hard. Hopefully they don't take them away after wintersday, because I want to use them for my Fissure run for fissure armor as well.
art_
i hope they DO take them away. I dont see why i should have to farm for a holiday item just so i can be in an equal situation with other people. The canes are a joke as new players obviosly wont be able to get them where as old players will have stockpiled them and will have an advantage for quite a while.
The candy weapons are fun tho

an advantage at what?
according to people on this board, they only work in pve.
I like how guild wars so closely emulates the real world.
xmas becomes another way to farm for cash crops.

I hate this selling mentality.
It's like people in Furnace, every time a Scroll of Insight or other that gives XP boosts drops (and helps clear DP by the way !!!), they keep it for merchant instead of using it for the party.

Which leads me to my next question anyone confirm the candy cane works in FoW/UW yet?
Kaiser
I wanna confirm as well if Candy Cane works with henchies. I mean for example you're in a party of all henchies and you use Candy Cane, would they get affected as well?
LAMS3K
Yes the Candy Cane works in the UW. I have yet to test the FoW. No Candy Canes do not work on henchmen. While using a few during Hell's Precipe the henchmen still had 60% DP.
Yichi
Candy Canes work in fow also.

I will have to check back later and see how many have tried to find some inconciequent detail to add to a chance to argue with me, will be funny to read some flames in misspelled l33t speak about how I am a moron for stating the obvious- have fun with that, the only chance of a deminshed value is a permenant item with the same effect, and even at that you could get 75% of its merchant cost for somthing free.

Former Ruling
My guess - They'll be worth maybe 50-100gold and hard as HELL to sell.
People over react.

I dont think they ll be worth a lot ..even when removed
cauz actually, u r not supposed to use em
u r not supposed to remove ur dp a lot ^^ unless u r doing an important coop mission and all ur party has a -60dp or so, u dont need those...
My point is, i d only use em in FoW/UW Missions, i dont care of dp when wandering in desert or around LA, just rezone and u just lose a few minutes
So if u r plyaing as a good team, u wont need tons of those ^^

My wife reports that they're almost as de rigeur as rez sig on tough PvE missions already.
As for candy cane weapons -- every PvE warrior should have a candy cane wand, unless she always puts enough points into her secondary profession's attributes to allow for a better ranged weapon. Wands damage based on char level, not any attribute, so candy cane wands are the best zero-req ranged weapons in the game.
Some might even say that they are ... sweet!
