Okay, for some reason, I can't do it, I've had two runs where Ice Golems AND ice imps spawned outside the cave
is that just a bad spawn and no one can make it passed that or, do I need better armor (Droks PLatemail armor Victo blade and Gold Bronze shield reduce damage-5 (20% chance) I mean I do regret picking platemail but does that really have anything to do with it.. please help!! Thanks

Been wondering, would a R/Me or a R/Mo work for this? i have a R/Me that can change to R/Mo whenever at senji's corner and even thought i AM making a W/Me, im still curious if my efforts are being wasted...please reply because i dont wanna have to spend like 1385463238k on making this build just to find out that i cant farm any.

I tried to get 1 a few times a when I finally made it to the Ice Imps I get knocked down while having Dolyak Signet active. How?I do not know. All I know is getting an Icy Dragon Sword is rigged

If anyone is still trying to solo IDS there's a few things you can change to make this a little easier.
1) Don't use gladiators armor. You don't need the extra energy at all, so you should use something with a bonus that will actually benefit you.. ie extra armor vs elemental damage. You can either use the 90AL (+10phys) armor or the 100AL (-20 if under 13 str) armor.
I use the 100AL (Sentinel) armor with a superior strength rune to get 15 strength. Yes you lose HP, but you gain +20AL from the armor, and dolyak gives you +12 extra and lasts the full 20 seconds. Combined with the other skills and a +7 "of warding" mod on your weapon you'll take virtually no damage from imps. In fact if you can obtain a -2dmg (stance) -3dmg(hexed) shield you'll literally take 0 damage.
2) Take all the skills listed by Kapper but swap sever artery for riposte / deadly riposte. It lets you block mountain troll interrupts, and will also enable you to kill the Ice Beast.
3) Increase strength (obviously you have to if you're using sentinel armor). The improvment to dolyak signet helps a lot.
With these changes golems are no problem since you can go for ages without needing a heal, so rust has pretty much no effect. Mountain trolls do pose a problem, since they can actually hurt you (and interrupt) but if you dispose of them first with riposte and desperation they'll die way before they get anywhere close to killing you.
nb: I use a Sentinel helm (+1str) with a +3str rune, and swap it out for a denvari hex helm whilst running. This will drop your strength to 11 though, so you'll need to put a major strength rune on it to keep your armor up. You'll have 40 more hp for running this way.
Also, taking the alternative route to the caves (running left at the beginning of mineral springs instead of right) is somewhat easier but there's a higher chance of encountering the boss with iron mist hex, which can really screw you over. You'll also encounter imps and a golem or two at some point, i'd recommend killing them or you'll probably die when you try to run past the avicara immediately after them.
If you go the usual route it's probably a good idea to kill the giants instead of running.
-----------------------------------------
my full setup:
Armor: Sentinels with Knight's Boots, and a Denvravi hex helmet for running.
Runes: Superior Vigor, Superior Absorption, Major Tactics, Minor Swordsmanship.
Superior Strength on Sentinel helm and Major Strength on Denravi helm.
Sword: +5defense or +30hp for running, zealous sword of warding (+7) for fighting.
Shield: +45 health -2damage in stance (crimson carapace shield)
OR -2damage (stance) -3damage (hexed) - if you can find one.
Attributes:
Inspiration 4 (4)
Strength 11+4 (15) - will be 13 with Denravi helm
Swords 9+1 (10)
Tactics 11+1 (12)
If you want you can lose 3 inspiration and put one extra in swords (and either have 11 swords or lose the major rune). Will require you to spam elemental resistance a little more though.
Skills:
Desperation Blow - Riposte - Sprint - Charge[ELITE] - Healing Signet - Watch Yourself! - Dolyak Signet - Elemental Resistance
If you're doing this with one or more other people you can swap sprint for either a Res Signet or another attack skill. You can also change out Watch Yourself for something else as long as one of you has it, though if that person dies you'll run into problems, so i wouldn't recommend it.

I did this a few times using the original build, and I have to say it gets easier with practise, but no IDS.
Do they still drop?

Yeah they still drop. If you kill all the imps you'll probably get one every 3 runs or so.

I am really getting frustrated with this lol
I keep on getting nailed by the Ice Golems and the rust, cant use heal sig enoough with them. Is it just bad spawns or am i doing something wrong. I also got a spawn the other day where there was 3 Trolls and then they just keep interupting me.
So was wondering if it just gonna take more practice or what should i do to get past either there trolls or the golems. Using legionares armor and using the build staded in the beginning, havent tried using riposte yet might look into that today.

First of all, you need to be lucky enough that there's no annoying blinding ineptitude avicara near the cave.
Then you need to take out the trolls and golems first. The imps won't hurt you, only slow you down. After that, it's just imp slaughter.
But I have been ambushed by avicara time and again. and that's instant death. Very annoying. They also follow you for indefinate distances these days I've noticed. Even when sprinting/charging. When they should at some point give up, but noooo, not this avicara.
But btw: what's this farming topic doing in the arts forum???
*ooooh I'm a Frost gate guardian! (what's that mean? :P)*

LOL Frost = Cold = Ice
They must have promoted yoou to Ice Cave Guardian, maybe now you can tell the Avicara to p*** off and let us farm in piece lol
Anyway back to topic, yea the Avicara is a pain in the but, I usually try and pull the wise and then get rid of them, once they gone the rest is not too much of a hassle, but usually when it get like that then i just restart the run

Ok I dont have the knockdown problem but I am starting to feel the same, the IDS is riged
I went there yesterday about 15 times and every time the Avicara is mixed in with the imps or I get spawns like 2 x Siege Ice Golem, 3 x Troll and then all the imps and they are all outside the cave, not waiting inside
But you know what Anet (shakes fist angrily) that might put some ppl off, but it also might make a few ppl more persistant to prove to themselves that you can still do it alone
"Hint" I am personally busy building an Nuclear snow ball with lots of candy for bait, thats gonna be rolled into the ice cave, LOL at least i can get rid ok most of the Golems and Trolls that way hehehehe
Luckely I'm extremely persistand

question do only ice imps in mineral spring drop ids or do any ice imps drop them? i found it much easier to get to ice imps in ice floe then in mineral springs
woot woot
^^ i think the imps near the cave r the only ones that drop them but i could be wrong.
I used to this quite a lot with a Wa/Mo build but after my first one dropped i never got another one and thats like after 15 or so more runs :/. Maybe ill give this Wa/Me build a try and c if my luck has changed...

guys i just saw this video (dl in 4 minutes!) and its july videos great thanks
and i just got 2 icy dragon swords (5 runs) amazing thanks

Crush
humm.. i tried to do this, but in the end Avicara and Imps were very close.
Imps slowed me and I could'nt run past by the Avicara that killed me immediately...
Did they nerf this or what?

pure @ heart
I've done it a couple times with my R/Mes
Running seems a little easier. I was using barrage and interrupts for the imps the troll is still a minor problem but I usually go with one war and it's not that bad. Unfortunately still waiting on a drop

this is a great build! i can get there but everytime i get to the imps they have a seige with them, and even a troll or two what do i kill first in this case as they keep killing me

Chris616263
This build is super-outdated. I first got this video from somewhere else a few weeks back; and just found this thread today. I had no idea how old this build was. I tried it out (even WASTED money on crappy Gladiator gear and the extra runes
); lo and behold each run ended in complete failure. Why?
There's 38956736026894697806 Imps in the cave + trolls/golems. Can this build kill them? God no.
But do you know what build can?
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/W/Mo_Ic...n_Sword_Farmer
It seems like it takes a little bit longer; but the W/Me build is so frail; it can't even stand up to a couple lame trolls/siege ice golems.
"Kill the trolls first!" I have seen people say. You know why that's total BS and you keep dying? Cuz when you pull the troll/golem, all 600,000,000,000,000 Ice Imps follow you out of the cave and you're dead. The W/Mo build is extremely sturdy, and holds up against attacks from Ice Imps, Golems and even the lame trolls everyone has trouble killing.

There's gotta be something wrong if you can't survive a troll with Dolyak and Watch Yourself! up...
You try to make it seem as it's the creaters fault you fail this run. Your post is useless, so take your whining elsewhere.

I really have fun with this build

Poison Ivy
Is it even worth it?...

ok is it just me or do these aviacre's love 2 chase you around the world without stopping, even with Sprint / Charge i cant lose them. any1 knows wtf it is ??
Sophitia Leafblade
That would be due to the Ai changed a short while ago, which makes enemys in any area follow u like crazy when ur running, Like Fort Ranik where i ended up with well over 40+ Charr chasing me by the end of the mission

So and all this time I thought I was the only one having post-update problems with the IDS farming..

Does this build still work?
Don't see any posts that it is outdated, except for a flamer.
if it does i will go and test it.

All, I got to say is NICE! And ignore the flamer, he don't know what he's talking about. ( Heck, he even has a Warcraft avatar...)
But I find it's easier to do this with a guy you trust rather than solo now because of the avarica guys can kill a W/Me pretty quick (in my experience...)
The only skill that I would recommend adding to the skill bar would be "Defy Pain" since it give you a larger margain of error and give you more armor. This is my build that I use for IDS farming with a another fellow farmer.
Defy Pain
Healing Signet
Desperation Blow
Dolyak Signet
Sprint
Sever Artery
Elemental Resistance
Watch Yourself OR an another attack skill
Well, I've tried it solo now and it's HARD. But it's easier to do with a W/Mo IDS build farmer.
Also... Wouldn't a full suit of Platemail armor work well because of the elemental protection bonus?
Well, the reason why I said this was because 2 targets mean that you have more chances of living especially if you run through heavy mobs.
But like 8 runs and still no IDS drops for me... ToT
Also if someone is coming with you.. one of you can ditch Watch Yourself for an another attack skill.
The only problem I have with IDS farming is the shadows..... They tore up my guy pretty quick....
Anyways, thanks for the video! I'm optimistic about IDS farming for once. LOL.

The OP made this build when IDS's came out LAST wintersday so of course it's outdated.
Shadow Kurd
Lol,, almost 2 years old now :P
But this has to be doable with a ranger too right? They have more running skills and can stay out of the casting range of the Imps.
Any1 has an idea?

Interesting build... I can see that you took the concept of a W/Me from the fow spider run build, its just that you used elemental resistance this time instead of physical resistance. Also, you put in charge.
