Can you be more specific about your problem? rather than just saying "I'm getting nowhere?" Is it a quest you're stuck on for example?
Do you mean your attributes? You can change them at any outpost with no penalty, no real way to screw up your build.

You can't access those areas without having beat Jokanur Diggings, I believe.
