Epic Trail and Spells?

I hate how I can't get the spells i want without buying the other games, but i guess it's a good way to get you to purchase the other two...

So even if i cap the skill with a "signet of capture" while using my exsisting Nightfall charachter it will be locked when the trail ends ?
