I always bring a Protection Monk (usually Ogden) and Warrior (Koss). My choice for the third Hero slot really depends on what I'm doing.

Don't rule out a particular skill, class, or campaign. Keep an open mind...you never know from where you can gain an advantage.
If by "tank" you mean a frontline character that can take and dish out a nice pounding, I'd choose Warrior.
