You don`t need starter items. Put them in the little trashcan on your inventory menu.

You`ll never get anything but common crafting items using a normal salvage kit. You need to use an Expert.

Could be you need to update your drivers. If you`ve updated recently and it didn`t happen before, go back to your old drivers.
