The rune was unlocked for your PvP characters. For your RP character to get it, you have to salvage the armor with an expert salvage kit.

When you enter the Academy, you just finish the 'tutorial' area, there is tons more PvE content after that.
You don't really 'craft' the armor, you buy it at an NPC. And yes, this is the only way.
No, there are a few more missions after that. You just have to walk to them. Look at the map if you're lost.
