Two possible methods of implementing the from-anywhere-to-anywhere-in-one-warp feature:
1. Make the map screen tabbed with your current map as the initial selection. You can switch between maps by clicking the respective tab.
2. Add a 'maps' icon (or use the existing ship icon) to one corner of the map screen, with a pull-down menu / selection widget / whatever of all maps.
In both cases, you can either make ineligible maps unselectable, or show them with a disclaimer like 'You haven't unlocked any locations on this map' or 'You must have Guild Wars: Factions to unlock locations on this map'. I agree that it would be a good incentive to get the missing campaigns when you see all that virgin territory just waiting to be exploited

i think it would be effective when choosing a character from the character select menu. i am often finding myself changing chars and mapping from one campaign to another to help a mate

At least there should be a way to directly travel to the Realm of Torment, but your suggestion is even better.

here's a situation I see often. I gather up my guildies to do a mission, say in Nightfall (with 8 people). I leave guild hall, and then realize that I'm in, say, Cantha. I teleport to Kamadan and my party is too big. Then I have to travel there myself (to the mission), go to guild hall, pick up my party members, then leave.

I have no problem with load times or internet speeds but it still annoying to go from Realm of Torment to elsewhere ... and i can empathize with others.
Lol. 5ghz dual core: You must be using water cooling.
Radeon Sapphire: This has no real meaning on how good the card is.
1 ghz net connection: ???? Wireless is generally 2.4ghz .... download/upload speed is given in megabits/second.

I would be nice to be able to go from one map to the other with out a ton of spawning in hellish towns.

Just think in the poor people that have to go from the Eye of the North to Domain of Anguish and back...
4 transitions when you want to go to one place! 5 minutes when you just need 10 seconds there! T-T...

Gw:en to kamadan, to torment, to DoA, back to "regular" nightfall, to kamadan, to Gw:en,. Then when you get back to Gw:en you still have to zone again to get to w/e zone you came from.
Thats 7 times you zone to go to one area and back, design flaw? You tell me !

solution would be only imo, if anet would give us finally a 3D- turnable Globe World Map..
but this can't Anet do, until they have decided, when the world of tyria will be finally complete and no new continents will be implemented, to create a full 3D globe world map.
Such a 3D World Globe Map would be imo the best thing...there would be no need anymore to switsch between maps of single continents, no u just turn around then your 3D glove and then you can zoom in ever at the point, where you want to look at closer..then u zoom out again, turn your glove a bit further to the next continent and then you zoom again in.
Such a 3D-Map would give the players also a much better feelign about, how big our game world really is, compared to our earth ^^..is Tyria bigger then Earth, or smaller XD That would be a question, that could be easily shown with a 3D Globe of tyria as World Map
When this comes not for GW1, then i hope really Anet will give us such an innovative World map in GW2

Yeah, tabs or arrows, or even use the current icons.
With the current icon, it would be like this:
- Start in Prophecies.
- Want to go to the Gate of Abaddon?
- Use the boat, the menu is shown. Select 'Nightfall', the Nightfall map is show instead of traveling to Kamadan. Then use the Vortex, and the Torment map is shown instead of traveling to the Gate of Torment. Now use the Gate of Abaddon icon, and the Travel starts.
- Now you are in the Gate of Torment.
- Want to got to Doomlore Shrine?
- Use the , the Nightfall map is show, use the Asuran Gate, the Tyrian map is shown, and then use the Doonlore Shrien icon. Travel Starts.
- Now you are in Doomlore Shrine.
- Want to go to Inner Sanctum?
- Use the boat, the Factions map is Shown, use the Inner Sanctum icon. Travel starts.
See? No need to new GUI items, just make them have different behavior. Show instead of travel.

I think that the best would be just tome swich buttons lets say in the left corner of each map (GWP, GWF,GWN & island) so u could simply select to which region I would like to teleport to. They should be visible also when map is zoomed out like ship travel and gwen travel button's.
Phoenix Tears
imo the battle islands could be also placed as outpost icons onto the normal world map....
i saw from the begin on really no sense in giving the battle island an own mini map, which is zoomed in much more to the islands...
the tyria world map needs so or so finally a FIX..so that these ugly black lines on the sides will disappear and that the map becomes again hozizontal based.... and not vertical ....i still hope that Anet will implement someday with another add on some new content in foram of increasing the world map with new explorable areas to the west and east to get rid of these 2 big black terrable lines and to make out of the world map again a world map as it was..before Eye of the North ...
these 2 big black lines let the world map look absolutely ugly

There is no need for more or new icons. The already existing ones can be used.
Click the boat, select 'Tyria', Tyria is shown, focused in the shouthern part .
You are in Elona, Click the Vortex, The Torment is show.
You are in Factions, Click the Asura gate, Tyria is Shown, focused in the northern part.
Done, easy as a pie.

You choose the port city to where you want to travel, then map. After that, you map to another destination. If I'm in Market Place (Cantha) and want to get to Ascalon City (Tyria), that makes 2 loadings, which isnt efficient IMO. What I'm suggesting is to make it so when you select a port city, then the map for that port city fades in or whatever, then you can select what outpost you'd like to travel to. Exemple : You're in your Guild Hall, you want to travel to Henge of Denravi. -Press M -Click on the Boat, then select Lion's Arch (or it could be written "Continent of Tyria") -Map of Battle Isles fades out -Map of Continent of Tyria fades in -You double click Henge of Denravi -Voila Would be much more efficient this way and we would save a load time (people with fast computers dont mind this, but people with lower end machines might end up saving 30+ seconds per travel.) Hope I made this clear Quite simple to implement and so much more efficient way of Travelling between continents. Thanks! |
imagine this:
u have 500 ram
ur in Droknar's Fordge.
You want to go to Abbadons Gate.
just to get there, u need to:
open map
map to nightfall
wait 3 minutes to load (remember, 500 ram)
open map again
map to the vortex
wait another 3 or so minutes
open map AGAIN
map to Abbadons Gate
wait 3 minutes to load
IF WE HAD INSTANT TRAVEL:
Open Map
Click "Contenitent of Elona" or W/E
Click "Vortex"
(oh btw, idea for vortex:when u click it, it fades into/out of realm of torment)
Click "Abbadons Gate"
and ur done

with muguma jungle (which is an area, u cant port to "the muguma jungle")...which is in tyria, on the far left middle...
i just dont get ur post...

The only reason I can think against this is map icons being loaded when you travel to a certain region.
So if you clicked to travel to Elona from Tyria you'll se Tyrian icons there.
But I doubt anyone caring about that or it being hard to fix.

Point of my post: 3 minutes is very unreasonable. Only with dial-up and 256mb of ram, you might have 3 minutes of load time, if it's your first load ever.
Real point of my post: Please don't exaggerate.

Having to go from Doomlore-Kamadan-Vortex-Gate of Anguish and waiting for all those load times is something that just doesn't need to be like that, and could easily be remedied.
By the way, nice thread necromancy, Milthran.

freaky naughty
definitely /signed it's a pain in the ass to go from LA to DoA, first go to Kamadan then to portal then to DoA, it's just very inefficient.

Yes, I know. Three whole mouse clicks is such a pain.

another thought about this i had was what if there a tab in the hero's panel that said "travel" and then it would have 4 drop down menus "Tryia" "Cantha" "Elona" "Battle Is" so you pull down a menu and pick a town/arena the only place that wouldn't have this or would have a scaled down version would be pre.

I might just not have an überpc but it takes some times to load the big cities : 30 secondes to 1 minutes or more depending on the number of people in the city. Quite annoying.
