edited added note. The Wolves do NOT cast anything you have to put up spellbreaker for. Only the blood drinkers and mind wardens require spellbreaker to be cast. the wolves cast impale. they do more damage on crits. whoop de doo basil. prot spirit and spirit bond will own them as long as smiter stays within about one whole compass range. the range before his enchants fade off is enormous.
Shroud of Silence FTL. have you even attempted this run? or are you just spewing crap?http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Thorn_Wolf

Which would mean they dont cast shroud at all maybe?... Other ppl have made it to Urgoz apparantly... So it might just be a skill thety dont use

They most definately cast it, frequently too, atleast in a 12-man team.
The Rift
Well we made it also till the big guy, but we dident seem to be able to get EoE in to good range of Urgoz ... we tryed to put it up at the left side as far as forward as we could, but he dident seem to harm him at all.
Does anyone here who made it till Urgoz and was able to kill him share some tactic about the last room ?
Here a Screenshot for the proof ^^!

i believe that the wolves have a gltich in their IAs, since the monks armor is so low, and their attacks deal so much dmg, they're gonna attempt to do nothing but kill the tanker in one shot
RebelHero
I just tested it.. They do cast it.. but they start with impale and then at least attacks for 15 secs. Then they all cast shroud of silence. Spell Breaker stops this very niceley. Just cast it as soon as they pop up.

thanks for the guildwiki link. I don't care. Have you tried this in a three man using the armor suggested (starter or shing jea monastary) or are you just spewing nonsense?
I don't play enough nor to I care to read WHY whether it be glitch in ai or some combination of my low defense armor or lack thereof, but the wolves never cast shroud on me. ever. We failed this run a lot. I've probably killed over 150, or possibly even 200 thorn wolves. past the fire bridge they start popping up everywhere it seems like candy. Never ONCE have they cast shroud on me. this was discovered quite early on in the first exhaustion room because i just didn't have the mana after exhaustion to cast spellbreaker. I retreated out of exhaustion and stayed alive on my ten mana tops bar (it got to 13 by the time the fight ended) by just spaming bond and prot every so often. from there me and my friends were like...test this? so we did. i never cast SB on wolves past that point though i will say that in room 9 where blood drinkers and wolves both spawn i was maintaining spellbreaker (by way of quickening zephyr, the first and second cast get off during zephyr's effect, if you can't wipe out bloods after three spellbreakers you shouldn't be doing this run). I routinely clear out the thorn wolf spawns using nothign but sb and prot spirit.
That said, this IS a three man run. it could be that they don't cast shroud on 3 mans. It could also be as suggested above that with my armor so low the wolves are going for instant kills. It could also be the weapons i used. for the record i used totem axe and the 5 stone horns collector item (east exit of vasburg armory) divine symbol offhhand, gives 15 mana minus one pip regen and +30 health.
My armor is no chest, a divine symbol shing jea monastary (15 def?) cap w/ minor divine rune, shing jea hands of minor protection, shing jea legs and shing jea feet. On the fire bridge i take off the head and the arms because the fire flowers don't do enough dmg and i only need armor for the mana regen. i would posit the premise you can run this as a tank using only shing jea or starters armor legs and feet for mana regen. I cannot prove this because me and my friends succeeded just the once, and i was putting my hat and hands on after the firebridge every time.
All that being said maybe we just killed them fast enough they didn't cast shroud after the initial impales. although i seem to remember impale fading off and being recast. We found SoJ blows on anything but the barks and the fire bushes. Crap attacks too slow to damage themselves properly. SoJ should be used on worms, bark, and as a running tactic. If the tank needs to run in to draw all the aggro at once and THEN run back, cast soj. otherwise let wrath and retribution work away.
IF you have four hours to spend and IF my friends can get together (we won't even try this unless we're at Nkari (class v clinger) 's house because we get no error 07's there and my cable is on the friggen fritz) again, maybe you could come watch with us. you'd have to die. because you don't deserve the massive loot that we're earnign while you're sitting here flaming instead of trying this build out.
EVEN IF THEY CAST SHROUD ON 3 MAN'S, which I havn't found to be the case, THIS BUILD STILL WORKS. it would just be a damned sight slower and trickier having to cast breaker every group of thorn wolves. IF i EVER once get shroud cast on me i'll post it. and the screenshot.

Currently playing around with this build with some guildies... after a few runs we finally managed to figure out how to deal with those darn Hopping Vampires that spawns at the start.
A few more tries and we managed to clear out the first dredges. It is rather hard to find that darn disencant spirit. I kept looking for an attack from it until I snapped awake and saw he attacks with dark dmg. So kiting around while pinned down is added to my growing experience.
After a few trials with the next set we clear out the whole first room
Works VERY well actually. Now for the degen room...
Killing the first dredge group is easy, even the 2nd one. The first group of blood drinkers are also rather easy (if I remember to cast SB
) but how the heck do you take out that tree?

The thorn wolves will not cast shroud of silence if you have a melee weapon equipped. Just use a totem axe/ffs with a 20% HRT divine focus and all is well.

Ok,
As you have all seen on the post, my guildys and I have done this run successfully, in fact we did it on Friday and Saturday night during the elite weekend, making it to and killing URGOZ both times. We have now done this mission together 3 times successfully, and at least 10 other times practicing.
Our tank monk "Stee Janz" has the thorn wolves cast Shroud of Silence on him along with a lot of other stuff ... (AND HE USES TOTEM AXE) so I'm not going to call but I know they do cast it.
P.S. I can post screens of us killing URGOZ this last weekend tonight after work.
Also Stee Janz and I did the sunreach thing last thursday because we were bored and figure it would work. We destroyed everything out in that area, killed 4 different bosses. He used "Ignorance" to disable Sunreach's healing signet. I was a MO/R and layed QZ, I would cast Spell Breaker on Stee then immeadiately cast QZ so he would effectively get 3 SB's while fighting sunreach's group, however he did get intterupted a lot and in most cases would die at least once before we would have to rez him and try again, but we killed sunreach 3 times. NO DROP
... we will probably work on this again.

Hey eatmesureshot, you say you killed urgoz, can you tell me how you exactly did that, cause we have been to urgoz 2 times now, but we couldnt kill him. We put up EoE behind the pilar so Urgoz couldnt hit the spirit. Then we started running and Urgoz took damage from the EoE, but he didnt die then before EoE was over. We got killed then because of wrong running.
Now my question is: Is there a better way to kill urgoz or do we just need to run better and keep refreshing EoE?

You have to find the spot behinde the pilar where it will reach Urgoz but still is safe from spawns. When you find that spot you only have to put it up once.

I went with a full group to try and kill urgoz, after several attempts and putting eoe closer and closer, I couldn't find any spot to reach him because the growths just kept popping up. Eventually our b/p group just put it up whenever we could, ran around hit barrage, ran, barrage etc.
I wish I could find the spot, but for me I have no luck any more.

I don't play guild wars too much now. We used to go down to the left side after the entrance. Put EOE just beside the rock which located on the right side where you stay. Correct if i am out of this topic

Thorn Wolves do cast Shroud of Silence, but I've only gotten it from the bridge wolves, and from the initial pops in room five before knocking out the bark (the ones you have to pull back out of the exhaustion). I've never been shrouded by the sea of wolves on the way to room six. It could have something to do with the weapon equipped, or kiting the wolves, I don't know. In either case it's only really dangerous in the exhaustion room because you can't spam cast. Everywhere else it doesn't matter as long as you mash on Spirit Bond, because Bond lasts 13 seconds while Shroud only lasts 10.
To bomb Urgoz enter his chamber through the left door (kill the two serpents and the group of wardens) - you can ignore the mob in front of the main door to Urgoz' chamber. Drop the edge behind the pillar just outside of growth spawn range - creep forward until you find it. Spawn growths behind the pillar. You can get enough growths to spawn with two people so you can leave the 3rd guy back in complete safety with Rebirth until you figure everything out.
I have the run under three hours right now, and I think you can get it under two and a half. Room seven is the only real problem, but I think you can aggressively bomb that room with the right equipment.
Peace,

-CxE Spawn Growths:
We spent ages trying to find the spawning barrier of the growths and once we had eoe out of range, we had to realise that it was also out of Urgoz's range, but then we dont give up easy so we will try and try and try
Room7:
We found a recipe to this room. After clearing the first load of Bushes in the center you move up to the mob on the left. Cast eoe (i change my mask for this, so i get the superior rune bonus makes eoe lvl 9) just in range before the gate. The Tank prots himself just outside the agro range while i drop QZ. Even with the exhaustion he can use it 2x. DONT pull the mobs. You need to push into them to make sure they get stuck along the wall and at the door. The smiter does his job and within about 30 seconds you have a massive eoe bomb, The Bark and perhaps 2-3 Bushes u need to finish of seperatly. We first used to try pulling and ended up falling asleep behind the keyboard yawn yawn, took ages.
You can ask Arcanus and Shinobi about the exact timing details of their parts in this room seeing they are the tank and smiter. All i can say is that the push version works much faster than the pull version.
Oh and we dont bother about the Weakness Bark, let it live

There is a little trick I use in placing the EoE. When we kill the serpent that opens the door to Urg we then go to the left and kill the serpent down below guarding that door. Then we enter and go down the hill and to the left. Everyone Except the ranger goes back to the lower door where the 2nd serpent was killed so they don't spawn any exploders. I then place my self with the tree blocking me from his view and begin to walk and stop. I continue to move forward and stop to see if one of the exploders pop up. As soon as I find the spot where they begin to pop up I take 1/2 step back and drop EoE( after the last one explodes, of course). Once EoE is up everyone begins to run around causing pop ups. It is very important that everyone stay away from the EoE spirit so you don't cause a pop too close to it. I reset the spirit every 60 seconds even though it will last 118 seconds just so i know I get it back in the exact right spot again. WATCH very closely as you are resetting it. If you get a pop right next to you when setting EoE then back up and interupt the spirit so you don't have to wait for the 60 second regen on it. As soon as the pop kills your spirit you will be able to immediatley drop it again so you don't allow him to heal too much. Finding this spawn line or pop line will keep your spirit out of danger from the pops (as long as you keep away from it) and keep it in range to continue to do damage. The longer you stand in one area the more pops that will come up. There is a very fine line in getting more pops to speed the kill and letting yourself get killed. Since we prefer the 4 man with a degen/Bip necro we keep him back to do nothing but heal and res if someone dies. That way we still have 3 getting pops. It really does little good to use the hexes on Urg as the only last about 5 seconds.
BTW...Anyone who says they have killed him in this manner with only 1 EoE being dropped is lying and has never actually killed him. With a 4 man group and 1 staying back it takes 5-7 mins killing him with EoE only. These people professing to have killed him in under 2 mins using this method are sadly using drugs.
3 kills with 4 man groups and I have gotten the longbow and the shortbow. I know the necro is not needed but having that Bip between battles is sure better than waiting on the tank's blessed signet to do the job. It also makes killing the barks go a little faster. If you have ever killed all the wardens in a room except 4 gardeners and a seer or two you can see where the necro makes that a bit easier too. We have this run down to 3 1/2 hours as a four man I would think that the necro probably shaves nearly an hour off this run as a 3 man.
Great build thanks for sharing. I was beginning to get VERY bored with factions and this has renewed my interest.

If you have a Rit with you it only takes on eoe to be set, since the rit can heal the eoe spirit and make it last longer. Not many ppl have done the 3 or 4 man Urgoz yet so we have to take your word for it. As for drugs, yes plenty of caffein and nicotine on an Urgoz's mission.

You're doing something wrong if you're waiting for energy on the tank. His energy should be good unless he has just died and needs to get enchants back up, plus regen. Usually waiting is due to the smiter getting energy for shield, or working off exhaustion from bombing those rooms.

Well first off, our tank has done this many times and he always needs energy refreshes. Have you actually tanked this before making comments about he shouldn't need energy? Unless everthing drops all at the same time you will progressively have fewer montsters attacking you thus your energy will be getting generated less. Thus the tank will need to use "Blessed Signet" several times or in the case of having a NECRO along "Blood Ritual" or "Blood is Power" will speed up the energy regen drastically.
For the fella that said he would have to take our word for it... no you don't go back in discussion a little and you will see that RuJonesin, Stee Janz, and my self all put screen shots from killing urgoz a week and half ago. We also have screens from killing him during the Elite mission weekend which we can post if you want.

Screenshots aren't really proof, apparently.... but my whole ungoing point against the stupid people that still don't believe this can be done is that there is a thoroughly detailed explanation of how this is done, this explanation has no gaps or logic errors..... So that can be taken as proof.
And i don't think too many people would say that i don't know how to tank this, and yeah, most enemies will drop at the same time, i very rarely have to take on small groups. I suppose i see the advantages of a BiP necro in this missions, but i don't think it would be my first choice as a 4th character.

I don't dought that 3 man teams have killed Urgoz's, what I was refering to when I said "we have to take your word for it" was the time it takes to kill Urgoz's with only 2 ppl running.
As it takes way less time with 6-7 ppl running and spawning growtz

I've been tanking this consistently for the last week or so. The only things I can think of that might cause energy problems are the lone Brooding Thorns in rooms 5 and 8, and *maybe* Guardian Serpents. Everything else either comes in huge edge-bomb style packs that give you infinite energy (wardens, dredge), or are medium-sized mobs that don't need to be spam cast on (Blood Drinkers). Thorn Wolves I'm in the habit of spamming on, because if you're spamming you don't care about Shroud of Silence - it lasts 10 seconds, Spirit Bond lasts 13 and has a 2 second recharge, gg. The random thorns shouldn't be costing you energy to tank unless you have a Shield of Judgement on you or you're kiting the shots. Are you walking into trap bombs and having to save yourself with divine favor or something?
The only times I really have to stop and wait are because of tanking in the second exhaustion room (2-3 minutes), or after dying and needing to get a full clip of energy and enchants to get going again (takes about a minute). Otherwise energy is fine. Ranger is a ranger. Smiter's energy is only as bad as his focus swapping ability. If you cast the goodies on a high focus (12 energy focus, 5 energy sword) then switch to a negative set (-5 axe, -2 focus) you get to 'hide' 24 energy even while Holy Wrath is going nuts. Two Blessed Signets during combat gets you back to zero, swap back up for 24 current energy, drop Holy Wrath and you'll have the energy to recast enchants in 3 seconds. Shouldn't have downtime outside of deaths - and even then, less downtime than the tank.
You only need two people spawning explosive growths to take out Urgoz with a sufficiently high level Edge. Hence you can stash someone in the back to rebirth any missteps and truly idiot-proof the run. Dropping Urgoz takes around 8-10 minutes of the kiting minigame. You can do the entire thing behind the pillar where he can't hit you, FWIW.
Peace,

forgot my exact setup since i stopped doing it after hitting 2 million from starting at 100k, but its much faster with 16 beast mastery on eoe. our best run was just under 2 ours. and mask swapping is for the win.

I been doing this for the past 2 night. I havent got to Urgoz room but we made it to the exsaustion and weakness room. It takes alot of time and practice. The first round we had 2 tanks trying it, I have to admit that I died over 20 times in the first room. (I hate desenchantments) But with a team working together you can run away from desenchantments on time, my ranger is always keeping an eye on them and telling me when to move away from them.
Hehe.. I have to say that the degen room is one of my favorites. Its always so hard with normal groups, but with this build I could be in there forever. The bridge sometimes get a little bugged. We send the ranger to die once in a while so the flowers stop, but they have the tendency of not stoping. Also, with my armor they normally hit over 60, but once they are bugged they hit 55 =\ (and i only have my pants on...).
The exsaustion room with the Wolfs took us about a hour to clear out. Everyhting has to be done very fast before exsaustion kills you. Other than that, up to where we have got to is easy.

Well 3/4 people can do the job just as fast as a 10 people running around. If you know how to do it in a safe way. Today we kill urgoz in like a minute or 2. (fast enough in my opinion)
(and 3/4 man complete run is faster then a 12 man run for sure!! If you are with an exped group)

heh well this build was fun with the edge bomb style farming. Anyone try it since the new EoE update?
