Nightfall too soon?
forelli3600
In general I am happy with chapter 3 coming. Again 2 new professions for us to discover and a new pve world opening up.
But I heard a lot of reactions of PvP players saying that Nightfall comes too soon. Every1 knew nightfall would come 6 months after factions but still, everyone was a bit suprised about the announcement.
Some pvp minded ppl are thinking, again 2 new professions and again many new skills and we havn't even fully discovered the factions skills, professions and builds that can be played with assasin and ritualist.
After prophecies we had a full year to discover the possibilities of the existing proffesions and after that year there was a pretty balanced metagame and now everyone is still working on using and adapting the ass and rit to numerous builds being used in gvgs for example.
I think the pve minded ppl wll be happy with a new chapter every 6 months because there will be new content, weaps, armos,....
But maybe not every1 will like a new chapter every half year.
If they will release a new chapter every 6 months will there be enough time to fully discover every new profession and skills and will the new professions have enough impact and the metagame?
Maybe new profesions will be forgotten soon if there are too much profs.
Will the game become too complicated to balance everything?
But...money rules the world so 2 chapters every year will most likely assure a good amount of profit. I don't blame Anet for doing this. I respect them for working so hard with a pretty small devs team. They habe been working on Nightfall since November last year and if they are bringing out a chapter every 6 months they are working on chapter 4 too atm.
But maybe they can give us a year after Nightfall to give us a chance to fully discover Factions and Nightfall. This way Anet can spend even more time in working for the community and fanbase. There are allrdy doing a lot of community stuff for pve and pvp players (events, pvp weekends,gwfwc,...)
But sometimes I still feel that the communtiy is keeping itself alive too often because I think there sometims is a lack of direct feedback from Anet.
But anyway, I will enjoy Nightfall no mather what. Just my 2 cents

If you are not ready, don't buy it.

No it's just in time, for people only doing PvE and played thru the game with several chars it's just what is needed.
I don't see why it has anything to do with money rules all.
I'm not sure if some people are either really young or very naive, but game makers actually have to make money to continue to make new content and give a profit.
Having staff work on tons of community stuff would make a big impact on the companys earnings.
I know you acknowlege in your post that they need to make money but somehow you want them to do stuff for free.
And in my opinion Anets interaction with the community is pretty good, compared to most other gamemakers - I can't think of many that are much better.
Anyway most people should be able to buy new game every 6 months, and if they don't want to buy it they have to.

it seems clear that a core character tend to be outmatch by the same class with the new skill sets...
im getting a kick out of have 2 versions of my swordsmanship skills...

Nightfall seems to be just in time imo. I'm getting kind of bored of the content that factions offers..Hardcore PvP players should have no problem with the new chapter.

It does seem a little too soon, however i have taken a long break after finishing factions, so i havent grown bored of it yet.

10$ every month or 50$ every 6 months is almost the same you know.
But what i mean is that, will they do everything to just bring out a chapter every 6 months or will they make sure it will be high quality and balanced gaming.
They can't make new professions every 6 months. We would have over 20 professions within a few years. And to keep the game balanced with over 20 professions is really hard. Or they have to make useless professions wich dont really contribute much to the game.

I heard that they will quit making new professions if they cant think of new professions anymore. Then there will only be made new content and stuff. There will come a new world and new missions and stuff and other weapons.

I hope chapter 4 doesnt introduce any new classes. I love to see new content, and Nightfall is something pve players need to keep entertained, but if new proffessions were released every chapter the pvp players would not have enough time to explore all the new proffessions.

Guild Wars became a bit boring to me, because I don't like Factions, so I am glad that they hastened the new chaper. Maybe chapter three will be better but I guess wishfull thinking doesn't help much.

i still have to play factions... i may skip straight to nightfall and come back later

I am happy nightfall is coming soon
First Factions was a disappointment in terms of PVE as compared to Prophecies
Prophecies quest was a long one and took months to finish
With factions onely 2 hours a day and already I am coming to finsihing PVE within 1 week
If the same team that built Prophecies is doing Chapter 3 then I my expectations are high
Let is come cant wait for the PVE experience

i mainly play pve and i think it's to soon. i'm really looking forward to get nightfall but i'd like to have some more time before nightfall release. there is still so many things i have to do, especially get back all that gold i spend on factions release, and the skill points..
RTSFirebat
I don't think its too soon, since I've already completed Factions with at least one of my characters
I just hope the PvE is much better this time around, as Factions wasn't that great.

Well it would be too early for me now but they sayd itd be out in 4-6 months and thats a lot of time...

too soon? I can't wait for it. I've done factions with 1 of 6 chars, thats enough for me. ^^

I just finished Factions for the first 3 times four days ago.
I saved all my characters, left them stranded at Unwaking Waters, and then just plowed through the end game on all three in one day. It was nice kind of. Instead of going through the whole game on each character, I stopped for each one when I'd reach a certain point, and then work on the next. Granted, its made Factions take a long time for me to beat, but I find that I didn't get bored so easily as I did with Prophecies.
Now time to repeat that process to get my 3 new Canthan characters done with Factions, and then maybe even Prophecies. I think I've got enough time before Nightfall comes.
I think, whether the expansion is coming too soon or not is your choice. As in, I could have been done with Factions a while ago, but I kind of staggered my playing (and bought Oblivion) to slow me down. I didn't need another Prophecies that I would get bored with so fast. Theres still a lot I haven't done in Factions. I made every character go through the Kurzick side, so that when I'm done and bored with nothing to do, there the Luxon side will wait for me.
If you play casually, yeah, Nightfall may be too soon, if you're hardcore played through Factions in two days, then Nightfall probably couldn't be any sooner.

By the time Nightfall is released, they will have spent a year working on it, I don't think it's too soon...
BellyFlop
Nightfall should have been out 1month after Factions cos Factions is nothing more than a boring game and far 2 easy to beat.
I really enjoyed prophecies and kept an open mind great Factions would follow but Factions for me was a waste of time and money.
It’s amazing that something like a proper monitored trade channel with or without an auction house can be that hard to implement.
If I want spam I got and check my email every sec cos it’s full of them I don’t want to play a game and be spam every second I step into towns, and have a hard time to make a party cos all you see is spam.
Every game got spam but Guild Wars is starting to be a joke.
I still have high hopes for the team but if the next game is anything like factions then i guess is bye for me or for sure not a pre-order item on my account. I still enjoy playing Diablo 2 Lod, Sacred UW and these games have been out for ages I don’t mind sacrifice nice/pretty graphics for good quality game play.
I got tired of Nerf-net having to have a say on everything, thank god they don’t own or got anything to do with FIFA (http://www.fifa.com/) football you call it soccer or it would be updated every month, and spoil a good game.
To end prophecies good game, Factions crappy game or poor prophecies wannabe looks like another team done it, in regards to Nightfall no idea but will not buy it until is out and I read reviews about it cos I don’t feel like paying for another demo without time limit like factions is for me.
You may or may not agree with me either way I am not hear to kiss anyone arse so I say what I feel and this is after defending prophecies for awhile now, not saying I will not buy anymore chapters just saying I will not be the first ones to pre-order and will make my decision after some intelligent reviews not from people that review the games that never even played it to its full.

Finished Factions 4x since release...
It only takes at max a few weeks to go through main storyline and BOTH sides (Luxon/Kurzick)

is there really any other game in town?
I rather have a ton of GW games then anything else, i say bring it on.
Only this time collectors for me. Hell I even got the Factions Zboard. So yeah, I'm commited.

I've been thru factions 5 times now, nearly a 6th, its a grind but i use PvE chars for pvp so its gotta be done for the skills, wish they wouldnt put all the elites in the final maps, playing factions itself is more of a grind than any farming ive ever done, nightfall cant come soon enough IMO.

* although to be honest that's to a large part because I lose interest at Raisu Palace and start a new char or go farming instead... I don't know why, but Raisu Palace just bores the pants off me.
That said, Factions was released in April (right?) meaning Nightfall is still two months away. Maybe I've managed to muster enough bloody-mindedness to get through Raisu Palace by then.
Curse You
It probably wont be too soon when it comes out, in about 2-3 months from now. Then it will probably be just in time.
Also, I've beaten Factions on 3 characters and I just got my warrior to Raisu Palace, and my ele is sitting around Gyala Hatchery. So yea, I can do this campaign pretty fast if I try.

Too soon? Too late if anything. Ive already finished with Factions.

It's like a new book in the Guild Wars Saga, my only concern is when extra character slot will be avalable to but, or will every new chapter give you two extra slots to build characters from.

I'm ready for it.

Yeah, it comes way too soon. My friends and I are still only about half way through Cantha with our first characters.

It needed to be out a month after Factions came out with the sad PvE in Factions. I can't stand the PvP in GW at all, so Factions had only 13 missions; two of which are poorly implemented dual group setups (a great idea, but sadly implemented) so that leaves 11 missions. Then add in the last mission is really just kill Shiro... 10 missions that are fun.
Add in the way too many quests in way too small an area and you get massive burn out very fast.
Throw in Competitive Missions and Challenge Missions; which were added according to Jeff Strain to have a reason to do again... yet I fail to see a reason to do them at all. Factions left me saying "umm, what next?" and "I'm bored..."
In the end, Factions is the absolute worst game I have purchased in the past four years in terms of value for my dollar whereas, Chapter 1 was probably the best.
Last thought on quests: Why is there so many quests post level 20 that give so much exp? Skill points? I seemed to gain skill points at ten times the speed I gained enough cash to purchase the skills/armor/weapons I needed. Were the quests just added to give something to do? Cause, umm... I did them once through and failed to see a point in repeating them 5 more times.

I'm more of a pve person than pvp, but I definitely have to agree that Nightfall is coming too soon. I believe expansions should come every 1 year rather than the 6 months which passing by quickly. Pve players are rushing by Factions wayy too quickly and thats why a lot of players are ready for the new chapter. At least try out/find out and play new builds in pvp, especially in AB. Plus, Factions had a pretty sad/short pve...

I think it needs to be pointed out real quick that $50/6 months is not nearly equivalent to a monthly fee. From that $50 that we get charged, there are many fingers in the pie taking cuts... the manufacturers, distributors, merchants, etc. A monthly fee goes straight into the coffers of the parent company with minimal overhead.
I only being this up on seeing some people saying it's the same thing... this may seem true to us as the purchaser of the game, but it's dramatically different from ANets perspective... they make much less releasing and not chargnign a monthly than they would if hypothetically everyone with a game was paying a monthly fee.
However... there is a counter-balance that ANet must be aware of... with no monthly, they have more people continuing to play than if there was. That keeps the player base up, which increases the market for future releases, which increases copies sold, which helps offset the loss of money from no monthly...
Whatever.
Anyhow, I don't know if I'm ready for Nightfall yet, but try and stop me from buying it! I have only one character that made it all the way through Factions (too many distractions... curse you Aspenwood and ABs!), but can't resist a new world...

First off i can't wait, though i do love factions, its a good concept idead and i find it very intresting. Its going to be more intresting to see what happens in Nightfall, i can't wait for it. I've beaten factions with 4 characters already, hell i even beaten it with an assassin, then again i was a good assassin, i really like them. But anywho its not too early cause it most likey will not be out till around 2-5 months. Also don't forget that their aleady working on 4 and 5.
PS: For the guy that can still injoy Diablo 2, i have no idea how you can, when you have played the game since beta, like i did, it had gotten old, Hell all my accounts do is sit their, i've given away alot of items too. I've gotten to level 99 2 times and it just boreing now. Guildwars is where my heart is now. Diablo 2 is just dust in the winds now.

Most people i see ingame say factions is getting boring yaddy yaddy yaddy so nightfall should shut them up for a while atleast.
