I was wondering...

You see these people everywhere in 15k armor. I was in a group with someone over the weekend and they looked at my armor and said

Him: "that's kurzick armor aint it?"
Me: "yes"
Him: "15k?"
Me: "no, 1.5k"
Him: "My leader could totally pwn you"

So...let me get this right...because I have 1.5k armor, despite the fact that it is no worse than 15k armor...I can be "totally pwnd". Riiiiiight....let's just forget the fact that I'm a Mesmer and I'd put good money on his 'leader' being a W/Mo (due to his arrogance) - Mesmer vs Warrior = SHUTDOWN

so...back to what I was wondering... does anyone actually buy the 15k armor JUST because it is 15k armor? I buy 1.5k Kurzick armor for my Mesmer because i like it better than the 15k Kurzick armor. So....nothing else matters.... So, if you buy the 15k armor, purely because it is 15k....why?

Just curious

P.S. Apologies to any W/Mo out there who aren't total prats! There don't seem to be many of you!

I bet many people buy 15k just because it's 15k armor. Many people also happen to ebay FoW armor materials =/

Why? To look 'leet'.

Some honestly do like the more expensive armors for their looks. In fact, most people do. The fact that it is higher in status is just a bonus.

I buy the expensive armor because it's expensive. There's an inherent power to having very expensive items, and style is it's own capability.

Basically... I go for the expensive gear, but consider the looks as well.

I buy the first set of max amor out of necessity, be it Droks or Kaineng. Then if the there is a set of 15k that looks better, I'll get that set. If not, I keep the 1.5k.

Well, 15k does tend to have more detail to the armor, but I don't really like a lot of the mesmer faction armor styles - they just look a little off somehow.

But are you sure that random guy was insulting you because you were only wearing 1.5k, or because you're a "tree hugging emo wrist slitting Kurzick"?

well 15k kurzic warrior armor looks a bit better then the 1.5k armor. if you have the money for it why not. if you dont have it so what.

i got 2 sets of fow armor (necro and monk). kurzic 15k for warrior and 3 other chars 15k armor but it does not make me a better player then you.

but i do buy the expensive items/armor because i have the money for it (no e-gay). its a part of the game and otherwise my storage would be full

I buy whatever armor I think looks the best. Straight sets, mixes, 1.5K or 15K or fissure. Doesn't matter. It just so happens that I think 15K armors do generally look better than their 1.5K counterparts.

The 'leet' feeling because of 15K armor has worn off for me. Everyone seems to have a set or twenty now. Though if people like shoving it in your face like that, it seems obvious who is the more mature person - and that should be held in higher regard than having more valuable armor on a video game.

I don't really know why people buy the 15K armors, since they're not remarkably better than the 1.5K equivalents (IMO). Of course they cost more, but so what? Does it show any playing skill to get a 15K armor? No, since in Prophecies one can get to places where to craft armors by paying money (either e-bayed or not) - even at low levels can one get the Grotto armor, for example.

Why would I spend that kind of a money on something that's not anyhow better than what I already have? Just the looks?

Wearing an armor that costs 15K or even 1m doesn't make you any better GW-player than what I am, nor would it do me any better than you, if I had it. After all this game is about player skill, not about "who's got the best toys".

Um, maybe because the 15k armor looks cool? That's the whole point of the armor basically. It looks better in most cases =/

I reroll characters on a regular basis. While I can afford 15k on them, i don't waste the money on a toon that may or may not be in that slot come next month. Besides, 1.5 Kurzick is cuuuuute on my monk i had 15k Dragon's on my Warrior, but salvaged it for the runes when they changed the stats...then kicked myself VERY hard when they made the change retroactive...

Mostly, i stick to 1.5 because you never know what the latest greatest build will require and (with farming, PvE, and PvP sets) my toons are already a pack of clothes horses. Besides, there are advantages to looking poor, especially in trade sessions.

As for who has the best toys? When they want a show of PvE skill, I say ''look at title" (flash between Prot of Tyria/Prot of Cantha) then join party and spam greens at them. 4 sets of weapon and foci tend to humble the heartiest "egomaniac", PvE or PvP.

part one, yeah lots of peeps ebay, ive met a few (fow armored war who doesnt know what a interrupt is)
secondly, a lot of 15k armors are cooler than their 1.5 counterparts such as 15k plate over the pig faced 1.5k, also it kinda is a sign of experience in the game, which ebayers have ruined

ugh my spelling becomes terrible late at night

I buy my stuff for looks alone CB. For my ranger I love 15k Drakescale (Grotto). For my Mesmer, I like the 15k Enchanters (Grotto). For my monk, I really like the simpleness of the 15k Wanderers (Citadel), same for my Necro with the 15k Bonelace (Citadel). I've always like the 15k Geomancer outift (Grotto), so that's on my ele. Now my Warrior is the different one... I absolutely love the 1.5k Ascalon Armor from Cantha. That's all he'll ever have, unless chap. 3 or later have a better skin.

I tend to prefer the 1.5k armour, because money doesn't come my way often. I recently found 8k on one of my other characters (hooray) which i thought i had lost ^.^ needless to say, i combined this with my 3k i already had and got 11k.

Know what i did with it?

Went to Kaineng center to update my armour (I was wearing Shing Jea monk armour, but it had no effects (apart from the sandals which i believe were Judges' sandals). so this time around i went for ascetics' canthan armour (i could always do with an energy boost(plus once i get to lvl 20 and have enough money for the monk runes i plan on trying out a 55 build just to see how it goes) but i never really liked the idea of being covered from head to toe in tattoos). the cost of the armour, plus the materials (i calculated the cost of materials for both Shing Jea and Canthan armour to see which was better, Shing Jea won ^.^) used up nearly all my 11k (go me ) and I had around 800g left. So there, i go for functionality over vanity.

I judge people by the looks of their armor. 1.5k armor isn't always a tell-tale sign of a new & bad player --- but more often-than-not: it is.

Hence judging people by that is extremely logical.

lol - I hadn't thought of that - you do get an awful lot of people in Shing Jea and the like ranting on about how Kurzicks or the Luxons are bad, using various expletives. Maybe it was that...

I don't especially care - I wouldn't buy ANY of the 15k armor for my Mesmer because after looking at all the different armors on GuildWiki, 1.5k Kurzick looks by far the nicest.

I also have an elementalist - she also has 1.5k Kurzick armor although the 15k kurzick armor doesn't actually look too bad. I don't know if I'd want to waste a whole load of money on it though....there's more to life...

<--- self-confessed clothes horse.

#1 Factor is ALWAYS looks.
If I'm tossing up between a 1.5k set and 15k set, I will think about functionality (which isn't an issue in Factions), then, I see how many peopl wonder around in it, and then, depending on my cash at the time, I buy the most expensive set

Ultimatly I went for looks and got the 15k Canthan for my Ranger but only because I really disliked the look of the CH1 druids sets. I used 1.5k Druids all the way through both chapters until I could easily afford the 15k, and that was only after I had got all the other gear I wanted for my Ranger. I have Canthan 1.5k for my Monk, which I think looks every bit as good as the Monk 15k and it also had the added bonus of letting me get rid of the horrible tats I had on him before (I can't stand tats in real life or in game)

I can't believe how shallow and idiotic some of you are.

Making the assumption that if you don't have 15k armor means that you're a noob really says more about you than the person you're looking at.
