Vizunah Quarter VERY nasty problem for Survivors, beware!
CagedinSanity
One one think you would not suck enough to die on that anyway. Or be lower than a level 20.
I suggest always taking a minion master, they provide much needed damage-sponges.
I've done that mission with a tank, a dervish, and an MM. Only my derv died.

But somehow, my character account logged 1 death during the cut scene, and I had near full health (~555) immediately before the cut scene began. This ended my legendary survivor pursuit (my first).
Thanks for the helpful comments though.

Just be sure to ask everyone to skip the cutscene if you are going for survivor when doing this mission. If they aren't close the client and come back in, you will count as complete. As said in the other posts, it is the master-less minions or vamp weapons that are killing you, not the death from Shiro.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions.
I just got my new ranger through the Vizunah cut scene without a death. I partied up with a friend. Synching our mission entrance wasn't a problem at all. We ran a hero MM on each team, and didn't kill off the minions before the last battle. I believe we had more than 15 minions once we killed off the last baddie. We skipped the cut scene immediately after the last battle, and voila! Still on track toward legendary survivor (although it's gonna be a long haul becuase I only have ~300k XP right now).

GunnerDude
ya, i was going for second surviver title , did this mission, and after cutscene i had 1 death
Sekkira
Done it multiple times with my new Ele due to failing to get masters. Each time the scene wasn't skipped until after Shiro had one-hit killed us. I still currently don 0 deaths, so it can't be that, it's definately the minions.
I do remember a complete fluke with my Mesmer attempt once where I got through the mission and didn't skip, the minions raping my party after the cutscene ended yet somehow my illusion of weakness kicked in to allow me to survive that brief moment of burst damage. This particular event gave me the awareness of the ability to lose the title there, the threads about it popping up a few days after I had gotten through it.
That however was in vain as it did lose it later, but that's another story.

I've said it before many times and I'll say it again: The survivor title is one of the worst idea for a title. It's done more harm than good (people screwing their teams by leaving to avoid a death, people getting unexplained deaths and screwing up the title) No other title causes so much wasted effort and no other title requires you to be both lucky and tediously careful. I really don't understand why it's such a popular title.
Sekkira
I disagree, the survivor title is probably one of the best ideas for a title ever imo. Anyone here going after Legendary Survivor can go on about how frustrating it is and how much sleep and time is lost over it, hell, even I'll say that. But we'll all agree, every bit of it was worth it. It's a different way of playing, it adds a new element of danger to playing the game.
Anyone can die their way to end game, it takes some skill and good playing to make sure no deaths occur along the way and further.

Any updates on whether Anet fixed the Vizunah Square bug?

I can't believe that this is still dragging on. Having done all the quests in Kaineng I'm definitely not going near Vizunnah now. I'll complete all of Tyria and then I'll see where there are more xp to be gained. No way I'm risking a title I've worked hard on just because Anet won't move their asses to fix a stupid bug.

Any update from Anet fixing this bug? Do the MM/vampiric/random deaths still happen?
Domino
If you're going for survivor, Factions is not where you should be anyway.
all the mobs are like zerg rushes w/ spikes... the soul explosions are not so bad now, too bad everyone and their mother beat Factions a year ago, thanks for nothing A-net

Oh by the way, the rule should be majority of those who skip cutscenes? It would be unfair for those who want to get into the storyline. A better idea would be to have the it so that if one person skips it, they can just move on leaving the unskipped people in the cutscene. But the current method is still much better because it punishes skippers.

I did this with my survivor and two minion masters with full minion teams. Everyone on my team skipped (guildies in vent), but the other PUG team had people watching the cutscene. So I closed the game and quickly relogged in so the server wouldn't think I was still there. Logged into Dragon's Throat with master's in the mission and 0 deaths. Seemed to solve the problem just fine.

A system that introduced a penalty would be more sane. Deduct 10-50K XP from your survivor bar (perhaps increasing the penalty each time you die), but allow you to continue working towards the title.
The problem with rewards in GW, though, is that when they're broke, you can't fix them, because of the contingent that would feel cheated when something suddenly got easier (or rather, less contemptibly tedious). Hopefully titles will be better thought out, if they appear in GW2.

My warrior had gotten to 12k away from survivor before he died in a PUG doing the Celestial mission. But I only realized I was on track for it at level 17, and then forced myself to NEVER abandon my post in the party just to get it. I feel good knowing I got that close without ever discoing or holding back. As for Vizunah square, I don't recall ever having a minion master in the PUGs. Ever.
Winterclaw
Or you can have your MM let all his minions die before the party goes into the final battle. Really there are ways around this.
Onarik Amrak
Forcing his minions to die will take a while. Say goodbye to Masters (if you're going for it). Also you can't really control what the other team will do.

This is the reason why I gave up on my ranger. This mission can be pretty risky for Survivor's title. I recommend just avoiding it completely, at least for now. If you have Heroes, just do all the quests you can in Nightfall, first, then if you still need some more Exp, I would try it then.
And if you do end up doing it when you're still going for survivor, log out, then log back in again during the cutscene. I agree that yes, no one should be forced to skip a cutscene if they want to see it. However, I don't think that that should impede on the Survivor title. There can't be anything done about that, though.

I dont know if this has been mentioned before, but why not have the option of watching the cutscenes at a later date, say after the mission after you've left your party. Then have a majority vote during the mission whether to skip or not...if only one or two people really want to watch them, then they can do so afterwards at no irratation to the rest of the party

did it with my paragon the other day and i didn't get any deaths....
i did have minions in the scene aswell.

Death bugs are indeed very annoying and cutscene deaths should be taken care of!!!
anyways:
The way to get survivor title is capping elite skills! So just go into prophecies (no reason to die in any of the coops in the whole game) and cap in shiverpeaks and desert and maybe perdition rock.
Go into nightfall and progress quickly to the mainland and go cap there..
Get some guildies to do the easy missions in NF and Proph and you'll be fine

Okay so I risked my Survivor title today and did Vizunah Square (local) and as soon as the shield and sword came up I logged out. Log back in, mission complete, 0 deaths. It seems logging out right after you get the mission complete shield is the best way to go.
Alternatively, a guildie also did this mission and the entire group skipped the cutscene, which also resulted in 0 deaths. Although since the group was comprised entirely of our guild, it was predetermined that the cutscene would be skipped, so there's none of that "14/15 people want to skip but are forced to watch the scene anyways" business.

I think a better way to do it would be to let people seperate from the party and skip ahead of the cutscene if they wanted.
Torqual
I did this straight after getting Survivor (1), without dying, and managed to go on and get to Legendary Survivor (eventually).
If your target is Legendary Survivor then I concur that it is extremely difficult to get this without progressing past Vizunah. You're basically ruling yourself out of all the high-end Factions content, which includes a good 40+ easy and safe skill caps just in the Kaineng area.
With my Leg S, I went up to Ember Light Camp in Prophecies, Arborstone in Factions and Venta Cemetary in Nightfall.
If people are still losing Survivors in Vizunah then this is really nasty; the way I did it is by getting a specific bunch of guildies together and then pointing out to the non-Guild members of the team that I was doing the title and would like everyone to skip the cutscene at the end; which they did.
