YAY! the guild wars weapon market is finally gonna die with the advent of the new updates! As someone who has spent several mil on weapons, i couldnt care less about the update. If others cant afford weapons and mods, i root for this upadte just cuz im not a greedy money hungry ho
Trader of Secrets
Money did give some purpose to playing pve. Now itmes will be so cheap now. Buying wep skins will be dirt cheap cuz of the inscriptions. Also you get to choose the mods to salvage, taking away the chance to salvage the right item. The GW market is gonna die. Farming will loose its purpose to most players.

if you were only in the game to add another zero to your fortune (LEVEL UP) than so what.
this will hurt the bots more than a few rich farmers/ players

as an example my warrior actually requires a superior absorb rune but they are 100k so i have to farm to get it.
ANET sees this PROBLEM and increases the drop rate.
results are a small group of ultra rich farmers bitching how much their profits have gone down.........
and..............a whole very large group of happy players who no longer HAVE to farm for something

I agree, this will help attract new players who may be turned off by the games economy.
People who still want rare Golds just to have them (like people who want Greens even though they can make their own with Collector's and Mods) will still support the market, though.

I thought I was crazy as well.
The first time I opened my catalog, I read the first page of the nightfall exclusive that said page 96 for the pet.
Flipped to 96 entered the code and bang free pet.
An hour later my son knocked my catalog off of the desk and I looked down and saw a blank box on the page.
I thought holy cow WTF is going on here.
After several minutes of being perplexed I realized i was on page "76" and it was an incomplete duplicate of 96.
LOL glad i wasn't the only conspiracy theory victim here.

I think more characters will be kept also, I have been many times tempted to just delete my pve mesmer because I cant be botherd with finding the money for all the right weapons.
I certainly hope this will mean that PvE Characters can more easily be made playable in serious pvp

I agree with the general idea of the new salvaging system for a couple of reasons.
1) getting the weapons you need will be more available for each pve character.
2) Not destroying a weapon just to get a mod off of it you don't want. (instead of over applying a new one and destroying the old one)
Also, this may not effect the economy as much as everyone thinks. We will just have to wait and see. The skins will still be just as valuable as they are now as long as the drop rates don't change much.
Yes you do lose the elusive sale of a 15^50 gold weapon but now you get to sell skins regardless of the inherent mod.
I like the thought of this new system and I am eager to see how it does truly effect the games players and uber farmers.
When I see how this all pans out I will then give my ultimate approval.(who cares about me anyway , right

Updated OP to reflect confirmations by Anet.
Please let me know as things get confirmed... I'm especially interested in confirmation of secondary profession changing in Outposts and Towns.

I got really excited about Factions before it came out, I was really looking foward to it. After I walked through it in a couple days, I was left sort of unfulfilled. There was plenty of cool stuff in Factions, but I felt like on the whole, something was missing. So when Nightfall was announced, I felt sort of tepid about it. I thought I would probably get it, but I wasn't too anxious.
After reading the PC Gamer article and recent releases, I'm really starting to warm up to it. If it is as good as it sounds now, I think it will totally make up for any negatives I saw in Factions. It seems like the team really has been listening and working on our suggestions this whole time.
I was kind of pessimistic when everyone was talking about no new skills or armor for sin and rit, but now they have confirmed new skills, and released pictures of new character designs for those professions. If they confirm new player armors, I will preorder the CE immediately out of a sheer show of support (I've never shelled out for a CE before).

i have a question about the expansion itself, as i have been absent from just less than a year ago, and returning only recently, i have not yet had a chance to look into factions, and now i see that there is a new version avaliable soon, wat im wondering is that is this an expansion to the expansion factions? or does it go with prophecies
Knightsaber Sith
It can be Prophecies+Nightfall; could be Factions+nightfall; or Prophecies+Factions+Nightfall. The storyline will refer back to Prophecies more but as it is designed as a standalone; it's an expansion to whatever is on you account.

I don't think they have released which magazines it will be in. Alex will probably say something when they do.

In short no one knows, we have to wait till we A.net tells us something.

I'm glad there is confirmation of support for rits and sins, including new armors and most likely new weapons. Althought my rit and sin are pretty much set with their armor, new weapons never hurt.
I picked up the PC Gamer issue last night, so I now have my code for the new minipet. I have a bad feeling that some people went out and bought multiple issues of PC Gamer to hoard the new pets for themselves, which makes me sad. Don't be greedy. Spread the wealth.

WOW!!! Central FL here no November PC gamer yet. Even Barnes & Nobles is carrying only the September issue. I checked PC Gamer website and they are advertising the September issue on shelves now. Can anyone point me in the right direction here?
Horuku
I decided against buying a PC Gamer for the minipet because you know everyone and their mother is going to be buying it so they aren't going to be worth THAT much.
Max Spider X
Will I still be able to get it in the final retail version?
Mordakai
yes. Just don't delete it then...
Sir Skullcrasher
Do we know what the basic background or storyline will be in Nightfall?

As far as I knew before they just had wings on there armor, but this sounds cool. |
Now this might make a lot more sense...!

If I wanted to play Resident Evil I would, but this game is targetted a bit differently and I'm happy about that. I'm not even sure of the details here but I'm glad this has been relatively free of that - ie I'll play something like Dead Rising when I want the parts to fly and spray.
So I'll have to do digging to make a real judgement but I was disappointed with the walking mutant/abberations in chp2 (not only a bit overdone and disgusting but very overused and boring to boot) and hopefully chp3 wont be overdone for shock value either - again in this kind of game, it quickly degenerates into a bit of repetive vulgarity for no apparent reason.
Keep in mind I liked Planetscape Torment too.
But I basically avoid the games that that's really all they offer and/or get silly with it.
I think its fair to hope that the chapters stay within some bounds, we have some expectations 2 chapters in.

Hey if you trash the mini gray giant or delete the character currently holding your mini gray giant does it reappear when you type /bonusitems?
Knightsaber Sith
You will get it back when the game goes live. But if you trash it after that; it's gone for good.

Too bad USUALLY the second part of a trilogy is the best- I mean just look at Jurassic Park... :/ |
And anyway Jurassic Park 2 and 3 were pants compared to the original.
If you wanted a better analogy you should have chosen the Godfather trilogy although I suppose it is an 18 and thus the majority of the board probably haven't seen it.
ANYWAY, so Nightfall is ment to tie up the previous story arcs yes? How exactly? What was REALLY left untold?

whats this about the dervish armor having area of effect damage when they spin?
Knightsaber Sith
Well haven't seen this thread in a while.
^Anywho, it's just part of the lore. They say part of the reason the scythe does aoe dmg is cause the crap hanging from their skirts hits people when they spin. But you still do aoe dmg even if you're not wearing dervish armor or if you're not a dervish.
