Choosing Inherent Mods?!
apocalypse_xx
If this rumour is true for Nightfall, what will there be left to buy with our ingame gold? As it stands right now, the only things in GW that are worth any real value are rare skin weapons with the 15%^50 mod. I know tons of you are going to say about time, and it was ridiculous people paying 200-300k or much higher for weapons, but think about it, what else is there in PVE? Myself, I basically spend 80% of my GW time in pvp, but the other 20% I can honestly say is spent searching for rare weapons or farming to buy rare weapons, and I know for a fact that I am not alone, many players do nothing but trade, what is going to happen to these players? Maybe this is why we have not been given an auction house, after all, if choosing/changing inherent mods does happen, there will be very little left for us to trade. IMO, this is a very scary thought, I have been playing GW since the beginning, and I know that there just are not the numbers of players there used to be, either in pvp or pve. On the bright side, then I can add a 15%^50 mod to my req 8 customized crystalline sword
Monk Mystic
dude weve got MORE people playing than we used to...we sure didnt start out with, what do we have now, 2 million. and i must have missed that rumor, cause I personally wouldnt think that they would do that but i might be wrong(wouldnt be the first time).
WiLdFiRe111
You already CAN choose inherent mods, and they're called Collector items buddy.
Monk Mystic
lol not sure thats what he means wildfire
lightblade
20%/20% rare skin gold staffs/wand/focus of the same attribute are pretty much non-existed.
Malice Black
buying inherant mods should never happen..defeats the purpose of mob drops and chests
ducktape
I imagine they might add a trader for the new system, so you can:
buy 15^50 mod from others
sell 15^50 mod to mod trader
buy 15^50 mod from trader
Sure, things probably won't be as expensive that way, but I'm sure it will work out. You might not get piles of money from a single transaction as often, but you can make good money by being able to salvage whichever mod you choose, which means getting good mods more often, and then selling those to others.

Well for one it helps defeat the farm bot EBAY epidemic. GW is about skills not about grind. Anyone who paid 300k for a weapon derserves what they got.
Its called a money NERF.
Now about that weapons storage Ive been waiting for...

I agree with Gloryfox 100%, I see this as being a money nerf, and like I said,to those who just like to post one line about "collector items buddy", this really doesn't effect me, except that I believe many players are going to lose everything they play for in GW. Read the PC Gamer article about us choosing or changing inherent mods, and, NO they have sold 2 million copies, that doesn't mean there are 2 million players, ask anyone who was around in the early days/months, there were more players then, look at HA as an example, many players have moved on, for many various reasons.
Malice Black
PC gamer issue? i want to read this for myself
apocalypse_xx
November issue in NA
gr3g
Yeah, I agree with GloryFox also. Use your money for FoW armor or whatever instead of paying through the nose for the 15^50 mod. Hell, it's a stupid mod anyway imho. I always bring a +20% when hexed mod on my PvP sword warrior because I will always have some silly hex or the other on me and if it's something mild like empathy or faintheartedness then might as well use it.
Malice Black
november issue..? ermm how its only september..
apocalypse_xx
Mags always hit the shelves early, anyways, and after we have fow armor? Then what, if they are going to make req 815^50 weapons common, then I hope we get some other gold sinks to spend on
Malice Black
I dont see this happening, this game is already way to balanced..15^50 are not needed to compete in PvE a customized max/white weapon does just as much dmg as a non-cusomized 15^50.
(edit: yes math geeks i know the percentage might be .004 or w/e out)

I highly doubt this. So much so I will keep every item I own which is worth well into the thousands of ecto as this is just some bs rumour.
Its complete crap. I see beta testers or whatever they are called with item collections worth hundreds of ecto. If this is true why the hell are they buying / owning stuff which will be nerfed. Based on this alone your post fails.
Most probably the article means you can chose the inherent mod from the weapon crafter. Like 20% hexed or 15% vs hexed.
Anet would never do this as literally tens of thousands of players would quit. It isnt just a minor nerf it would cause massive damage.
There are collectors items and greens so GOLDS ARE NOT NEEDED.
If you want golds work for them if you dont use collectors as they are as good as each other.
I am 100% sure this will never happen.

Shadowfox1125
I highly doubt this is ever going to happen. Anet is really going to take the perfect weapons that people have played for and shoot them down the drain? We're talking about lowering perfect gold weapons to a blue collector status. This would incite havoc and many people would just quit GW. This "choosing" mod thing is just, imo, the introduction of mod traders.

As for the mods, I'd think they are called inherent for a reason no?
1. existing in someone or something as a permanent and inseparable element, quality, or attribute
If we can all of a sudden change them they stop being inherent pretty fast.
scrinner
If we could choose this on a drop. Thats it for guildwars.

Relax.
Though I cannot understand why you would quit because of this. Is your life really the grind for the lucky drop?
Quote: "Inscriptions are inherent Bonus modifiers for weapons"
Well let's say they are like rare scrolls but drop even less often.
Would this destroy the market? It would affect it, but not totally.
It all depends on the droprate. If every 2nd mob drops such an inscription it would be kinda silly. Or maybe there are other ways than drops to get this inscription, who knows.

Well, I am glad to see that I am not alone on this issue, I think it would be a huge mistake to remove the very last thing that traders and collectors have. The article in PC gamer really makes it sound like inherent mods will be changeable, lets just hope that it is a misunderstanding
The problem with inscription drops, is that you can then salvage them from common skins and add them to the rare skins, or if they are drops like scrolls, can simply just be added to the rare weapons directly, so YES, the high end weapon market would be completely destroyed. This would leave basically only FoW armor that would have any significant value. I believe this would be a huge mistake

My only fear is they will listen to all the drama and reverse their decision. Changeable mods sounds awesome.
-Loki-
I'd love to be able to buy native mods. My req 8 14>50 Golden Phoenix, Stone Crusher and Halo Axe would love me if I upgraded them.
Shanaeri Rynale
Unless it applies to *new* items only. So if you have a 15>50 item that has already dropped you wont be able to salvage the mod off it..
Divinus Stella
Well as it stands the economy in guildwars is full of eBay cash, perhaps this is an attempt to stem the flow, if people can make their own perfect weapons it wont lead to so many people resorting to eBay.

Oh, and this thread contains SPOILERS. You've been warned.
The End of the Trilogy?
Nightfall is "an apocalypse", says Jeff Strain. "It's an endpoint." It will tie up some loose ends from Prophecy and Factions. But don't worry, Chapter 4 is in the works, and hints of what's to come can be found within Nightfall.
Regions of Nightfall
Istan: Starting region, themed after ancient Egypt. Contains port of Kamadan, where travelers from other chapters will start.
Kourna: Savannahs and mud huts.
Vabbi: Arabic themed with floating mosques and castles, magical fountains and tapestries with flowing text. SPOILER ALERT: This place will be devastated by the "evil god" at some point.
Desolation: The poison desert, with sulfer pits. You'll even ride giant worms in this stage to cross the most dangerous parts! (Yes, you control the worms, getting special "worm" skills to replace yours!)
Realm of Torment: Hell, basically. Promises to look very gory, pushing the "teen" rating. Will be unmappable, as the fog of exploration persists even after you've "explored" a part of the realm.
Beefier Story / Better Voiceacting
Jeff Grubb writing (from D&D fame), more dialogue trees with NPCs, completing quests will have consequences on gameplay, professional actors hired for voice acting. Drinking and dancing mini-games (or Quests, sounds more like it).
Also, Nightfall is larger than Factions (20 missions vs 15), there will be branching storylines, (although not as extreme as the two Luxon and Kurzick paths in Factions), Three New Challenge Missions and One new Elite Mission (not based on Alliance, but opened at a certain point in game).
Swappable "Inscriptions" and Choosing Mods to Salvage
"Inscriptions" are "inherent bonus modifiers for weapons" and can be transferred among weapons, or sold for gold. Also, no more salvaging what you don't want, you can choose what component you want to salvage.
Templates for Your Characters include Secondary Changer!
You can now assign preset skill and profession builds and switch them in Outposts. "No more hunting through outposts for Profession trainer!" I assume they mean once you unlock a secondary, I can't see GW giving you secondaries for "free." Still, a much requested and needed feature!
Heroes
12 heroes, can have three a a time, will need specific heroes for some quests. Can upgrade Hero's skills, weapons, armor, and give them secondaries.
"Aggressive," "Defensive" and "Passive" modes, can be sent to to certain areas by placing "flags" on the mini-map. Finally, we can tell a Hero to hold an area!
There's also a list of the names and brief bios of all the Heros, which I won't bore you with. But I will reveal that one of the Heros (Zhed Shadowhoof) is a Centaur! (guess which Hero I want?) I guess you could say I'm a "Zhed Head!" Har, Har. (sorry, not much sleep last night).
300 New Skills
Including some new abilities for Assassin and Ritualist!
Gray Giant Mini-Pet
This has been discussed to death, but how can I have a thread about the November PC Gamer and not include it?
There's an access key printed on page 96. You can add it to your account now, although it won't do anything until the Nightfall World Preview Event on Sept. 22 - 24, or when you install the Nightfall retail key.
* Go to Kamadan, the port city of Elona.
* Type /bonusitems to get "Broken Toy" item.
* Accept "The Toy's Story" quest from NPC Makh, complete quest to get Gray Giant mini-pet.
You can repeat these steps when you get the final release, as all items gotten from the Preview event will be deleted.

dont think this is happening. the inscription and inherent mods prolly aren't touching the >50 <50 stance ench +5energy base mod. could be something different

Last time I checked the whole point of GuildWars was not about grinding for levels and having to farm for the "phat lewts".So if anything this will simply add to said principle.
majoho
Thanks N E D M
Honestly I must admit I kinda like it, I'm sure some farmers will hate it since now only skins will be able to get them a good price
So basically it takes a lot of money out of the game - that can't be a bad thing.
And I aboslutely LOVE being able to chose what mod to salvage from a weapon - and I assume that also means no more getting 12 Iron Ignots when trying to salvage
I guess you will get severl options when you salvage now
Materials
Inscription(s) (Inherent mod)
Mods
I really hope it will work on caster gear as well, but it probably won't

Honestly, this is good if it means we'll (finally) be able to mod our shields, staves and wands with the inherent modifiers we want. Hard as freaking hell right now to get one that mimics collector stats in gold form.

The problem i see here is..the poor/average gamers would want this so they can finally own that 15^50 they have always wanted.
The traders/rich dont want this because most have worked hard for what they own.
To me this is like selling rank to PvP ppl..defeats the purpose of playing beyond doing the storyline..play PvP? nah not my cup of tea
(plz dont spout shit about GW isnt about grind because that statement gets old)

15^50's aren't hard to get, I normally get at least one every deep run. Or at least a 15^something. It just a matter of doing high level farm areas, and most likely using the chests.

Interesting article. All I can say is if it does happen it would be the biggest mistake Anet ever made. It would destroy the economy.
The only thing left to do would be to unlock skills, buy armor or pvp. Alot of people enjoy collecting weapons and it would ruin it for them.
Perfect weapons would lose so much value and it would make it even harder for new players to make gold from getting nice drops. Chest running would become pointless. HoH drop rewards would also become pointless.
It would make so many things Anet has added to the game such as Hoh rewards and chests redundant.
All I say is it would be sad to see a great game ruined. There was no forced grind and owning nice weapons never hurt anyone.

Seriously though, it doesn't compare to buying PvP ranks, getting perfect weapons requires NO skills whatsoever, so that's a horrible comparison.
Malice Black
Getting rank 3 requires no skill either so it is a fair comparison.

and this is exactly the problem, for a game to be longterm successful it has to provide "something" for everyone. I am lucky that I love the GW pvp, but for many players this is absolutely not the case, and if the search and/or farming for perfect weapons comes to an end, I really don't see what is left in pve once you have finished the game/quests/capped all elites. I know they want to address the ebay gold issue, but this is not the way to do it, GW has lost enough hardcore pve players, we don't need to lose more.
