I suggested this ages ago just after Nightfall was released, because I loved the Factions login, and when it was changed without players having a say in it, I was annoyed, and had this same idea. So yeah, it's a /sign for me, although I strngly doubt it will help much. This is not impossible as anet may claim, the environments exist, and aside from Prophecies, the functionality is identical across the board, so it all comes down to not WANTING to do it, not the inability to do so.

I seriously doubt it can not be done, More likely they are unable to or do not want to spend the time and resources coding the character selection screen to perform like it used to do! or any other way for that matter.
That said, Yes it would be nice to have the first character selection screen back

Personally I would LOVE the old character screens back! Especially the first one where every character is gathered around a campfire, and you have a camp all set up. I don't even care if they charged me 4bucks for ALL of the old screens. I would pay it for sure.

I wonder if it is even possible. Could be that the loading screen is a server side display, not a client side. If it is server side, how would each person get to choose a different one to display? Would be nice to have an option, but I don't see it as happening. And I think it has already been said (officially) that the original Prophecies screen is not possible due to the number of character slots possible.

I'm pretty sure that the install discs with the earlier game versions have the graphics, So datamining those would grant the ability to recreate the screen selections.

I was going to make a thread about this but I searched and found this one.
Now that they're starting to make things roll into GW2 and finally let GW1 sort of "rest in peace" (I'm assuming there will not be any more expansions or campaigns released for GW1) they should let us choose which background we want to see since everything has been wrapped up! I'm a huge fan of the Factions background.

Everything they've been spewing about it not being feasible to implement or requiring too much work is BS anyway, charging 4.99 for the service would bring decent revenue with minimal work.

I started GW with Factions, so I never had the chance to see the original login screen. Not that I'm complaining, mind; Factions, NF and EotN had amazing screens (in increasing order of awesome, IMHO). It'd be a great and nostalgic treat to be able to see them again.

I loved the Factions screen, but I really don't want to see the few resources they have wasted on something like this. Come on guys! There are much bigger fish to fry and I have a hard time believing that most of you are spending enough time on your character selection screen to even justify the time Anet would have to put into making it possible.
