xiao1985
yeh i am abit annoyed at this update too....
but i guess it's because it avoids too much space being occupied on your computer... but then, how big would a thumb nail be any way?!

I do not like the "change" in the skill icons at all. It's annoying and does look really bad. I really hate scrolling through my skill window at the moment. Please change it back to what it looked like before the update.

This thread isn't about the 1 second it takes for skills on your personal bar to show their icon. This thread is about the 1 second it takes for icons to appear when you're watching others cast, and that 1 second vital. |
Interrupting is almost impossbile now. What am I interrupting - hourglasses or skills? WTF?

Hmm... I wonder if it's due to the profession-changing monsters? Maybe the system before had pre-defined skillsets for each NPC, with the icons already there. But when you run into something that can change it's profession, and thus it's skills, on the fly, they hit a snag with how the pre-loading was done, so implemented the hourglass thingies.
All speculation, of course. Either way - /signed fix it! fix it! fix it!

I'm sure this isn't intentional or anything; if ANet has been able to seamlessly display skills for over a year, why shouldn't they be albe to now? How hard can this be to fix?

/signed. This needs to be fixed, it's annoying how everything has it now and it takes 2 seconds to see what it (conditions, hexes) actually are.
Interrupting isn't a problem though, the skills have their names in the activation bar.

While those few seconds may seem insignificant at first glance, that's all the time it takes to be flattened in PvP and some areas of PvE

I can live with scrolling through my skills and it taking some time to display them. I cannot live with not seeing what my opponents are doing.
My mesmer stopped interrupting for the time being and is nuking now.

I'm not going to sign this simply because I'm sure Anet is aware of the problem and working on fixing it.

reading phrases takes more time than looking at a picture and interrupting requires quick reflexes.

Want to know why??
If 'this' had happened back in the days when I used to play EQ (origonal Everquest, not the sequel), you can be damn sure Verant would of seen that head's rolled over it. THAT DAY. People fired, or disciplined... or given a stern talking to out-back behind the bins, whatever, and it FIXED immediately. Its been almost (or over?) a week now aswell, and there is no excuse for this not being rectified... if you know anything about coding, you know that this is childsplay stuff in terms of difficulty, all UI coding *is*, packet orientated modifications to the datastream for such information, likewise. Its not exactly as if they need to reinvent the wheel, and rewrite the entire C++ coding language. No excuses, whatsoever.
I have another theory, and you might not like it. Since there is no way this -can't- of been fixed... and day's ago... and ANet and Archangel Gray are keeping ominously quiet about it, I think the hour-glasses are here to stay.
So, to alot of you : i'd start thinking about signing this petition now, or you might be kicking yourself in a week or so.

Nice try man. The old backpeddle.
Don't think its gonna work... all the last 4 odd posts are completely off topic, flame orientated... and most importantly : started by you.

I am concerned about this situation both as a Mesmer and just in general. However, I have faith in Anet that something which is so obviously problematic will be resolved soon!
Nivryx
anet is trying to make my job interrupting harder, by the time the hour glass changes into the skill its been half a second, which means that for someone going off of icons, any skill under a second cast is impossible to interrupt. since half seconds generally take spamming to get, and it takes half a second to change... =/

God.This has to be removed.Immediately.
PvP for me has become nothing but a frustration being killed by skills like that of Clumsiness and Ineptitude as a caster, because lo and behold,I'm already attacking by the time it actually comes up on my status bar.

I absolutely loathe this new "scroll thru hour glasses in your skill list til your real icons draw in" stuff. Please remove it at all costs as soon as humanly possible.

Do these petitions ever work? Heck even most of the time devs dont recognize them, and i am almost tired of them. Yeah its a problem (for some) and it was implemented just they ay it sposed to work and it is working wether you like or not.

To all those people who say that the newer, faster systems will cache it correctly: You're wrong.
I'm running a high end system at 1280x1024, 4xAA, and max everything and GW runs fast everywhere. The speed of your system has little effect on the hourglasses because their 'on-demand' code is too slow to keep up with the game itself. I also don't understand the reasoning behind reloading pictures over and over - I still get the hourglasses after the skills have been used which confuses as to the point of this whole system.
But yea, A-net will fix it. It's really irritating.

Yes dear god yes... please fix this. It is so god damned annoying. ive seen it in cases where 1/4 second casts like reversal, prot spirit, etc. have been spammed and the icon never showed up, just the hour glass.
Why was this ever put in in the first place?

i have heared a couple of explanation, bur Alex nor Gaile have offered insight (as far as I can see) so labeling them is all specualtion, I understand that this implementation may have turned out bad if Anet did it to fix a problem then I hate to see how bad the problem was before they fixed it.
I am not Saying to start a petition but some feedback from a Dav would be nice.

This has been going on since last weekend
I don't believe it has anything to do with "dated" machines
I run a Dual Core 3 GHz intel chip and a high end 256M ati graphics card
1400X1080 all graphics on max, and it looks awesome
Even the hourglasses look good, but I dont want to see them
I have stopped using my mesmer because of it

3 year old computer (and wasn't that great to begin with), and the time it takes to load the icons is enough to miss an interrupt or is enough to deal a mean amount of damage to me or my party.

just logged in, saw the hourglasses were still there, logged out.
it seems to me that anet is too concerned at launching nightfall and immediately earning from it than in repairing problems that their beta testing of nightfall has brought.
as an existing (prophesies and factions) and future (nightfall) customer, i expect the product to be to my liking and if it is not, then i will reserve the option to withhold future purchases. it's that simple.
anet will not get anything more from me until i like what i see.

Here's another odd thing: The icons load slooowly, but the descriptions are there immediately. I'll grant the descriptions take fewer bytes, but still...
And btw machine speed makes no difference to load times as far as I can see.
