Defender of Ascalon title
Warrior1986
Ok. So the title is real. I'm assuming then you have to make a choice between the Survivor title track and this one? Since in order to get this title, you have to do this thing called death-leveling.
In which case, how does one exactly go about getting this title? I want to see if its worth doing this one or just sticking with survivor.

If you go over the wall and let the other guy Death Level the Charr, then you kill them.
It is possible to get Defender of Ascalon and Survivor in Pre Searing.
Anyone have any ideas on how long this would take?

I remember me and a friend dying at different times while fighting the Charr over the wall and resurrecting at the shrine beside the gate. Then I would run to where he was fighting, he died on the way there and he res'd at the shrine while I was on my way.
So I think in Pre Sear you res at the shrine as you die.

So I think in Pre Sear you res at the shrine as you die. No that was changed a while back. Now both party members need to die before the rez shrine kicks in, even if the surviving party member doesn't have a Rez Sig.
Unless ANet has introduced some level 14+ monsters somewhere in Pre-sear then the two titles are mutually exclusive.
It takes months to get the Protector title since after reaching level 16 you are limited to maybe 2 or 3 kills a day that will only give you 100-168 xp depending on your level and assuming you are letting the beastie level up to 20. You'll have to do it 128 times to get from 19-20 alone.
It has been a while since I leveled one, but I believe it takes about 8 hours to get a Strider outside the Abbey to level 20. And that's assuming you don't err-07 or lose agro.
The three Striders by the Feather just outside the Abbey would be a perfect group to pull, as their splitting the XP from your death would be made up by them killing you significantly faster, but the last I knew they will not pull all the way to the shrine. Pulling two of the Striders that sometime roam around the shrine won’t do you any XP wise since they don’t share experience in a kill. One might level up a couple levels but the other one will eventually outstrip it and then start getting credit for all the kills. Having Multiple Striders on you does help kill you faster though and cuts down the time needed by the other Strider to get to level 20 by probably a 1/5th (very rough and unverified estimate.)

This is the most stupid title ive ever seen in the history of GW.... IMO Who in they're right mind would go for this... Levelling the Charr alone would take ages, then once you've killed them and gained a little bit of exp which decreases the higher you go, then you just start all over again.. and again, and again, and again....... again! Do ANet want people to have no life :P?

saw one when i logged in just after the update...had no idea what i was seeing

Save all of your quests until you reach lvl 16 and can't get anymore xp. It well get you atleast closer to you goal.

Actually, save them to 19 as XP at 19 is the hardest to get. Though you can take any number of quests, like the skills quests, just don't turn them in for rewards.
Also, to help along in the early stages, you can take Char at the Gate and kill the level 6 char (the highest level characters available without going over the wall.) Then go back to town, abandon it, and then go to Rurick and get it again.

So the only way to get this Legendary Title is via Death Leveling? Is there no other way so that we can attain both [Legendary] Survivor and Legendary Defender of Ascalon? The highest level enemies, I believe are only the level 10 Charr bosses so killing them over and over wouldn't work... I think... I wish they put a high level boss or two somewhere...

After questioning a number of people in pre-searing I believe the title dosn't show up until level 10-12. I have asked three seperate level 15 characters in pre-searing and they all confirm it. I am working on reaching level 12 to get a screen shot to prove it, but this title should be placed back up on the site. --Guest 18:43, 28 October 2006 (CDT)
This title is real. I have it in my title track. I am level 14/20. It reads Defender of Ascalon Title Track (no title earned). When i mouse over it says. You will earn the title Legendary Defender of Ascalon if you reach level 20 prior to the destruction of Ascalon. And I know God Anti------ and they have the title also although I was not the one to post that screen shot.
I Just made a Character in Pre-searing and began asking around if anyone has this title. I asked a lv10, Lv13, lv11, and two lv14's It seems that this title IS real! It appears when you reach lv14. ~ Zero rogue x 02:49, 29 October 2006 (CST)

/go waste my time getting this title
see yall in pre!

Lame, yet another title not accessible by current characters. Seems to be more of a title for the few people who had already gotten to 20 pre-sear, as it takes months to do it through death leveling. I mean honestly, how are you a Legendary Defender of Ascalon when all you do is let yourself be killed to strengthen Ascalon's enemies? At least Survivor is somewhat doable =/.
Two April Mornings
Is this account-wide anyone know?
Impressive nevertheless.

Anyone have any ideas on how long this would take? same time as it would take the charr to level from your deaths.
I left pre once at lvl 18 with like 4k to go to lvl 19
My friend however made it to 20 once but I'm talkin about like when guildwars was just out and we all were cute lil newbies
btw I just wonder how u should feel when u enter the academy and see a lvl 20 party.... id say BB survivior to yourself since last time I got my ranger out of pre my gl was getting all the deaths (we won with 12-2) stefan and my GL died or else I would have :P I was going for the title....made it to lvl 1 without grinding for exp progress is like halfway to lvl2

I'm still trying to figure out what this title proves? Yeah, its all nice and dandy to have a title that most people don't, but even if you get it, I still don't think people will give you any more respect for it. All it is really proving is that you know how to deathlevel! I remember when the game game out and getting the survivor title was a pretty big accomplishment and it gave you a little respect. Then came along powerleveling and now it's like "so....your point?" (sorry for those that actually TRULY earned the title). IMHO, it's just a pretty stupid idea. There are much better things to do than attempting for this pointless title.
Jeremy Untouchable
I know God Antipo----, its cool, she is monk/war has a temple guardian for a pet, and pretty nice purple weapons...........however, i must say, she was lvl 20 a YEAR ago. so i'm thinking there was repeatable quests that are gone now
Ajantis
not really.. as far as I know he (or she) just lured the charr to the shrine when it was still possible

This is my perma pre monster you can see the title there. I am currently doing some 'research' (started today). The easiest place I found was just outside Ashford Abbey, you can aggro a strider, lead him to the shrine and let him kill you repeatedly. Anywhere else seems to involve a lot of running around. The bad news is the result of todays 'research'. Using this level 14 character and aggroing/leading a strider to the shrine.
Striders level deaths required total cumulative
to reach this level character deaths
1 / 0 / 0
2 / 2 / 2
3 / 5 / 7
4 / 6 / 13
5 / 7 / 20
6 / 9 / 29
7 / 10 / 39
8 / 13 / 52
9 / 16 / 68
10 / 18 / 86
11 / 22 / 108
12 / 26 / 134
13 / 32 / 166
14 / 38 / 204
15 / 49 / 253
Total time expended on this.....approx 5 hours. I used frenzy a fair amount of the time to speed things up too. I will keep you posted as my 'research' progresses.

Darn the spacing for all the numbers didn't work out as I had hoped, I will try to formulate a proper table for it. Hope you can make sense of it for now.
Just looked again and the headings are all messed up too. The numbers are :- Striders level/ Number of character deaths required to reach this level from previous level/ Total cumulative character deaths

what you do is go around killing EVERYTHING untill you get level 16. then you do the quests.
thats probably the only way

too bad presearing was sooooo oooooo ooooo long ago for me, even for black dyes i dont go to it
T1Cybernetic
I keep a character slot free and keep a character in pre-searing
i have a ranger there at the moment at lvl 10 but i've been
considering bringin it through to old ascalon to unload all the stuff i've collected and then remaking it like usual
then making
another elementalist, they own pre-searing
firestorm ftw
Pre-searing is the only place you cant really go to unless you remake a character so it's nice to have
a prescence there and i'll definatly at some point be trying out this title there just for the hell of it...

Anyone have any ideas on how long this would take?
and how would you manage to kill a group of level 20 charr before they killed you??
this would make a lot more sense on ANet's part if they made you pay-to-play. Talk about a money-sink!

Huge waste of time or not its a title, and some folks want to experience every title. Sure its not for me but you know I gotta say for those people who manage to hit 20 in presearing Congrats. You have 1000x the patience I or probably most gamers have. I hope you enjoy your title, and probably the fortune in black dye you've collected by killing everything that moves in presearing

What if you and your friend were rangers and you both had highlvl pets ?
I mean, Comfort Animal is the only hard rez in pre right ? Well, that can be very useful, just have the Charr kill the pets over and over, then you and your friend can just go in an kill the Charr.
This way is probably faster than soloing because the Charr get 2x XP from not one but 2 pets, AND you get a clean slate while attempting for the survivor title. Doable ?

As long as they are getting XP from pet kills it will work. The first set of Char you run across over the wall stay in position so you could just get them to kill your pet (two at once might be too much for them, so you might want to send the second in after the first is dead) and then keep rezing them with nothing in BM for a quick death. Someone just needs to test it to see if beasties get XP from pet deaths.

If I remember correctly, people a couple of months ago were moaning that thier characters were deleted becuase they reached a high level in pre sear.. don't know if this was true but if it was they're going to be pretty hacked off

Another confirmation - title is real, and you can death level the mobs. Here's a screen of my lvl 14 W/R in pre- leveling a strider, with title track visible - screen was taken about 5 minutes ago:

The title is possible and infact someone has it. i didnt ask permission to have their name out so i blacked all names out.

Ok, update.
The idea I had doesn't quite work as expected. I aggroed a lvl2 wolf and pulled it to an aloe, then I had my lvl1 strider attack the wolf. The wolf would not die because of the aloe's heals. This way I had my strider die at the wolf's paws something like 60 times (33 times would have been necessary for a lvl up). Conclusion: foes don't gain XP when they kill your pet.
It may be that I did something wrong, although I can't see what. Anyway, I'd really like for another person to test this, preferably in a different setting (other monsters). Just have a pet, aggro a monster, pull it to some healing, then heal yourself without attacking. Your pet will start attacking your attacker, the attacker will then turn its attention to the pet and kill it. Please count your pet's deaths, and make note of the lvl difference between your pet and the foe (to know how many deaths to count)
EDIT Another update: I tested it in scrimmage. Only the first time you kill a pet you get the xp. All the other times afterwards you get 0. Anyone have any ideas ?

Well, aside from legendary survivor, now we know who has too much time in GW.... Other thread says approximately 100 hours for this thing to happen, minimum. This and Legendary Survivor have to be the only grind in this game......

If you are an unskilled person you've got to grind to Legendary Survivor, yep.
My mesmer got it by playing the game (questing, elite capping, playing through both [back then] chapters). And I know of plenty other people who have also earned it by playing properly. Didn't feel like grinding for a second. That would be "earning" the title by slaying minotaurs or "standing next to someone who slays minotaurs".
