Disappointment with the double dye weekend
TB_
Same here, I got zilch and I dont think the other guildies did either. Mind you, while double dye is or should be good, double insignia is even better. hint hint.

Typical, tbh. People all think they'll get 20000000 Vials of Black and White dye if they start killing monsters during the weekend... the only dye I got was one purple. But do i complain? Hell no. I already knew the odds of getting black and/or white were minimal, and that even double the chance would still give a small chance.
It's actually quite likely that some people didn't get a single dye drop during the weekend, but the day after that could've gotten multiple black/white dye vials.
Don't think that you'll get everything if the chance is doubled: it stays minimal.

It really is a game of numbers.
Example:
Let's say dye drops "randomly" every 10,000 drops.
Double Double weekend tweaks that down to a dye every 5,000 drops.
In a group of 8 (yourself, + 7 henchies), you've now a 40,000 (8 x 5,000) chance of getting a dye.
Now lets look of the price of Dyes. Lets say, black dye = ~10,000 when compared to normal dyes which = 200.
10,000 / 200 = 50. So that means every time a dye drops, you've a one in 50 chance of getting a black. (50 x 40,000) / 100 (drops per hour) = 333 hours of playing (with 7 henchies) until you get a black dye.
Easy solution? Solo through early levels. No henchies mean more drops for you, and thus more dye for you. As I mentioned before, I scored 9-ish dyes through the weekend as a Necro MM, by simply solo'ing it.
Note: It's been AGES since I've done this sort of Maths, so please, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I must say I wasn't disappointed in dye weekend. I didn't farm for it or anything, but I got Nightfall when the weekend started and got 5 dyes on my new ranger by level 5-6 just by running through quests. Including my first and only black drop.
However, it did almost nothing for the dye economy. In my opinion, ANet should do a double dye *week* so the dyes get a bit cheaper. Sure, the oranges, browns, greens, purples, etc. are cheap, but the black and whites are still through the roof. I see this as a problem cause it locks casual players out of black and white dyes (which, admit it, are the best looking and most versatile for mixing), and casual players make up the bulk of GW. Hell, I'm a bit more than casual, have a couple level 20s, and still feel like I'm getting punched in the teeth when I buy a black or white.
Sorry if something like this has been brought up in this thread - I didn't have time to read the whole thing.

Personally, I can't really complain about the dye drops, I averaged about one every five minutes of hunting. However, my friend(who plays a minion master) spent about as much time looking for dyes as I did and only got a bare handful. A couple days later, with the next game update, we discover there was a bug causing necros to not get credit for all the kills made by their minions. I have to wonder how many dyes were lost because of that little bug. Thanks Anet for informing us of these issues in advance and getting around to fixes in a timely fashion.

I didnt even bother trying to farm for dyes. Last few times its been double dye weekends I would get lucky to get one dye. The drop rate just dont really reflect "double" I actually get more dyes (common ones) on regular days than I do during double dyes

I had a couple of dyes here and there nothing valuble...honestly i didnt go dye farming or anything retarded like that just usual PvE stuff. And that whole MM thing made me laugh.
