Best Guild Wars?
Arkantos
Hello everybody. I was just wondering, what does everyone think the best GW is? [Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall]. Vote, and if you'd like post your reply. Poll closes in one week.
Trakata
I chose Prophecies...just because the game was new and fresh back then.

I'm really enjoying Nightfall right now, but I think I'm one of the few people who liked playing through Factions multiple times. Prophecies become a bore after the third time through, so I honestly can't vote for that.
This may be the lone vote for Factions.

Factions and Nightfall are seriously close in my mind. They are *really* close. I loved Factions. I'm loving Nightfall.
I loved Prophecies through once. :: snicker ::

Even though i liked NF for many things like the new Cuts, better story and the new classes. Having completed Nightfall once and working on my second toon through, i choose Prophecies because depsite the good points of Nightfall, its not really fun to play after a while in comparison to good old Prophecies where all my fond fun memories are.
Even though i like Nightfall very much, the only things i am reminded of are thoughs of frustration and anger.
Hence i chose Prophecies for the fun/replayability factor as the best in the series so far.

Prophecies all the way! I would of picked Nightfall because its actually is better than Prophecies but Heroes negate all positive aspects it has. If NF didn't feel like such a single player game then yeah it would be the best. Hope Anet learns from this, don't try to replace real players with AI characters.

It's definitely Prophecies. The only mission in that chapter that ever seriously pissed me off was THK. I can think of several missions in both Nightfall and Factions that make me mad. Plus, I find myself returning to Prophecies constantly. Not only is it the original, but I find it's the most enjoyable chapter of the series.
Kakumei
And here I thought I was going to be literally the only person to say Factions.
Contempt
Despite all their efforts, Anet has yet to outdo their original work... maybe they should consider why people like prophecies so much...

I would have to say it was factions for me...Prophecies was I dunno just too long, loved playing thru factions and nightfall has the same feeling as prophecies for me.

Factions was challenging, replayable, original, and introduced new game dynamics and encouraged group play. I loved not waiting for the actual playable content and just diving right into the fun missions. Nightfall already has me bored, and I haven't even finished the campaign once yet. I have no clue what I'm going to do when i do finish it, I don't see any things that would be fun to go back for. It feels like I bring the heroes and henches, click two or three times, and then I win. Prophecies was ok, but being the first, needed a bit of ironing out. The early missions are kind of meh (Does anyone really do missions like frost gate who aren't going for the title?), and farming gets stale for me really quickly.
In short, Factions ftw

Nightfall for me.
As much as I enjoyed Tyria and it's diverse locations, Elona drew me in much more than the original could ever hope to. Factions was meh, in my opinion.

I voted for Nightfall. Just yesterday I had the opportunity to do play through the Gates of Kryta and Naphpui Quarter missions again. I have to admit I got a bit melancholic running around in Kryta again, but I still prefer Elona for it's well developped story and the pace the game lets you go through the campaign. Your free to do a lot of exploring on your own, but at some point to move on you have to follow the primary. I really like the way this works ingame. The only I thing I really miss in Elona is Devona and Co. Yes, you can have them as henchmen, but they don't play a role in the campaign whatsoever. It's nice that you are the hero now but still I miss them.
Kryta "feels" like "home". I still move my characters to Fishermen's Haven before logging out.. but from a gaming experience Nightfall is the "better", the more developped and thought through campaign. Gates of Kryta especially is such a nice place. The moment you exit the gate and the beach opens up in front of you still is breathtaking. But the game itself is not as well designed and developped as it could be. Elona is a huge step forward regarding game development and "feeling".
As for Nahpui.. I felt alienated the moment I set my foot on canthan ground again. The city theme is just not very great. It's so dark and repetitive and I just don't feel like an explorer in there. I also don't like the canthan approach to the coops, that makes you rush through just to get master's reward.
Anyway just my view on the 3 chapters. The perfect Guild Wars chapter for me would have to "feel" like Kryta and have the well thought through gameplay of Elona.

Ultimately, I have to go with Prophecies. The story was crappy, and I don't even like most of the PvE. But it drew me into the game, and ultimately, even if Nightfall is technically better, the nostalgia factor is overwhelmingly hard to beat.
I guess what I mean to say is, playing Guild Wars for the first time, ala Prophecies, had a spark of magic that no future chapter has really managed to recapture.

Nightfall. Prophecies has the good skills, but game wise, Nightfall is just much better. Lack of endgame content hurts, but not enough to push it below Prophecies painfully slow, horribly scripted, awfully written campaign. PvP doesn't really count to any of them, since they all get all of it.

Prophecies was awsome!
Factions was pretty cool aswell...but abit boring.
Nightfall is a long and hard game with impossible missions! And after you beat the game on a character you kind of don't want to go thru the game again with another character sinces is so hard ;[

Hard? Please. It's harder than Prophecies or Factions, but it's not actually hard.

Prophecies got some areas what look very good.
Factions focused to Mhenlo, Togo, Emperor and Shiro not to player's character.
Nightfall is good but hero system was not enough limited (Using 3 heroes during missions effect so that most from missions in each campaign are easier than before Nightfall release).

Nightfall got my vote
I was bored of Prophecies after the 2nd time through and most the PVE content is for under 20

I vote prophecies because it was the original, un tainted and best version.

Nightfall. Each campaign feels better than the last one for me, as it's a new storyline made from more experienced developers. So I like all of them, but NF is my favorite currently. I also liked the NF concept of "relying too much on Elite skills", like Searing Flames, Glimmer of Light, etc. Insignificant recharge spammable skills that actually make a huge difference for the party, but if someone uses a Signet of Humility on you, it makes the same difference, but negative as the builds are usually developed to rely singlely on the spam of the Elite skill (hah, a Searing Flames ele with its Searings Flames disabled loses more than half it's damage potential).

I voted for Prophecies. Other than the best skills of all the chapters, I love the slow development with a new profession. By the time you hit the more difficult stuff, you know your character's strengths and weaknesses.
Nightfall's quest/mission sequence is very good. It keeps you involved in the story and gives you painless ways to accumulate the required sunspear/lightbringer ranks. Heroes are OK, but require a lot of multi-class knowledge not available to a new player. They will never replace a party of average players; just better than a nightmare PUG.
Factions, while I enjoyed it overall, had no time to learn your character before you were dumped in KC fighting level 20s with not enough class knowledge to even know what skills to purchase or the money to purchase them. A lot of the quests were unrelated to the storyline and some were ridiculous or depressing (find a teddy bear, look for medicine that was not available, kill the last of a species).

Prophecies, although i did enjoy Faction 2, Nightfall is great 2.
Dj Tano
I loved and still love factions and consider it the best title of the series...
Awoken
Prophecies = A complete game. (Map; Ruins (Ascalon), Nature (Jungle), Desert (Crystal), Ice/Winter (Shiverpeaks). All we need.
Factions = Half of game.
Nightfall = The other half.

Prophecies was perfect so anything else is always inferior.
Ritualists, Assassins, Paragons and Dervishes seem like cheap additions scraped from the bottom of the barell and now its a case of quantity over quality in Guild Wars.

For me, I had to go for Nightfall because although its a miniature version of Prophecies, it is also a more polished version of it.

Has to be Prophecies for me. Factions IMO was kinda crappy - and Nightfall pretty good but a bit tedious. I just love the diversity of all the locations in Tyria.

Prophecies

Prophecies. Nightfall was a close second as it had a much better storyline and was on par with Prophecies for the missions. But, I won't vote for it due to the fact the game was released unfinished (elite missions, etc.).
FalconDance
Nightfall and Prophecies run very closely for me, though I chose NF for this poll. Factions wouldn't even be on my list .

Well...what to base the votes on? The story? The map? Character skins/models/armor? Gameplay?
I voted for Prophecies because it had a good enough story and a nice way of telling it. However, GW isn't a game with too much pressure on the story. At least that's the impression that i've gotten.
The map was awesome in Prophecies even though i did become rather annoyed with the Piken Square area (my most hated part of the entire GW map). There simply was variation. And that's a good thing, ya.
Prophecies had good looking female mesmers so that should be enough already, but Factions came rather close also with the oriental feel, which i generally prefer. Nightfall is definately the bottom of the character looks. I can read cool faces on one hand...and that's counting all professions.
The gameplay is something that i wouldn't count to much. Were the story played in reverse, then Nightfall would have had the least advanced gameplay, and Prophecies being something like Nightfall is now. The story, map and characters however wouldn't have needed to be changed. A word combination i like to use in this case is "unkillable plot item".
EDIT: i haven't played Nightfall far enough to know all of the story. However i don't think it would change anything.
