What profession was your first character?
TSCavalier
Mesmer...
OK, my first character was a Warrior... but that lasted for about 2 hours before I realized it was a bit dull. So I switched to Mesmer for something that was distinctly Guild Wars... because that profession is unlike any other in any CRPG that I had ever played.
LOVE IT! Playing a Mesmer makes Guild Wars feel more like Magic: The Gathering.

Me/R with a bow and pet.
I obviously had no idea what I was doing back then. Deleted him after struggling in Kryta. Went Mo/W thinking I could be a self healing warrior.
Then I stopped being silly.

First character I created was a monk, I used a hammer. I've since learned to use a sword and an inspiration focus.

28.10.2004 I made a N/Mo.
This thread is quite nostalgic.

Velvet Wing
I started out with an sin/mesmer combination Seemed really awesome at the time (i'll hax you, and I'll stab ya!! ^^) but didn't work out quite as well as I hoped.. Sins aren't meant for tanking.
As soon as I realised that, she got a nice place in my char selection screen for some time (playing a monk seemed more fun, I study to be a doctor, why not try out in GW for a change? ) and when my monk finished factions, my sin got a second chance, which she passed with flying colours. I still use her today, nostalgic reasons I guess..
Edit for deleting a insane amount of smilie faces

Ranger was my first. It goes back to my affinity for the Rogue/Amazon class from the Diablo games.
I also traditionally don't like playing spellcasters, and while I favor melee, I still like the idea of striking from a distance

I made an R/Mo and a W/N almost immediately upon getting the game. The R/Mo is no more but the W/N has turned out wonderfully.
Sir Skullcrasher
Warrior was my first character, then i moved into Mesmer for my second character. But Warrior seems fun for me.
Sephiroth Istari
Elementalist because I like being a cool mage.

The community needs to start fishing for guru members amongst the new players in Nightfall. We obviously don't have many.
And only 7 votes from players new with Factions.
Unless they are picking more core profs than chapter-specific ones.

My first character was a ranger :P i just really "liked" the idea of playing as a shooter something or other. I got all the way to Thunderkeep, and just couldnt play him anymore..
His name was Faerin Jun... That has to be the only reason i deleted him.

duncan99
made an assassin cuz they looked cool to me, hard to play one but i like a challenge
Former Ruling
My first character was "Former Ruling", my Ranger. He is 15 (almost 16) months old now.
I made him because I figured Ranger's (from the manual) sounded like solid characters to get into the game quick with and have fun.
I'm glad I choose Ranger too, since I completed 90% of chapter 1 with little friends and no guild, and Rangers happen to be one of the easiest classes to henchie things with.
It was my only character for like 1-2 months (I didnt PvP at the time, so no pvp rolled either). I made a Warrior and got him through the game (up to Ring of Fire atleast) then made one of the worst mistakes in this game - I deleted him because I wanted his name on a Necromancer I wanted to be my 3rd character.
The necro didn't pan out and got deleted before even making it to the desert, so I lost like a month of work in that Warrior (lvl20, decent weapons, drok armor, alot of elites, up to the fire islands, would have had birthday by now, etc. Thats ALOT back then as a pve newb) and ever since I've had the hardest time getting my current warrior up to that par...
I made a string of necros, elementalists, mesmer, etc that all never panned out, some ascended some didn't before getting deleted.
Then on my ranger I was Ettin farming with traps one day (Back when Ettin farming gave like 2-3 Gold armors a trip) and in 1 day I got like 3 Sup Monk Runes. This was in the hayday of 55ing everywhere so the runes were like 15-20k ea so since I had 3 already I decided at that point to empty my storage into getting the other 2 I'd need and make a monk. That monk I named "Not Another Ruling" (as a sort of joke of myself for having made like 5 different "[X] Ruling" names then deleting the characters) and this is my current monk, and second oldest surviving character at 9 (almost 10) months old, and yea I realize thats alot younger than Former Ruling..I told you I went through a huge period of making all these classes and deleting them over and over.
Since I've made another Necro "Defiled Ruling" (for SS/SVing, he is a Mule now...), Another warrior named "Bone Crusher Ruling" trying to get him to my old warriors glory, a Ritualist named "Distracting Ruling" whom I NEVER EVER play now...she is just a character slot waste, I made a Paragon for Nightfall then deleted him after the skill nerf (I only made him to unlock paragon skills and maybe pvp with anyway), and made a Dervish 2 days ago in his place named "Former Failings" which is my first pve character without "Ruling" in the name.
/sorry for long post, I took this time to remember all my fond memories of chaper 1 times

Warrior, all the way. W/mo was suggested to me as a good starting place, and I still think so. I never used mending or hb though..
Anyway Ill make a short story too I guess:
Got warrior to ring of fire, and has never been farther. Capped charge and gladiators defense, made 100k running and farming trolls. Made a monk, spent 75k to make it a 55. Made an ele, ran it everywhere and deleted due to the name..I attempt to make a necro but it doesnt stick til I make a male, intended as a pre-only but I gave up on it. Got all necro and ranger core skills thru quests. Wasted 50K+ on armor, never used. Necro deleted post factions.
Then factions comes along..
Made a mes, get to last mission on factions pre, delete. Happens twice more..
Made a ranger, got it thru everything and got 1.5k Kurz. Deleted later.
Warrior finishes (1.5k) factions, monk finishes (15k). Made a mesmer, thru factions and 1.5k kurz, 15k kurz, 15k canthan...only char that goes thru both campaigns fully and got every mes skill. Made an Ele..as NF comes out.
Disinterest leads me to delete my NF necro, ai changes make farming too annoying for me. Ele deleted in favor of pve slot.
Various guild hopping through all, pve>ra>ab>ha>gvg.
And thats it.. 7 pvp slots/3 pve. Pve are mules..waste of life on gw fully realized.

Jeff Highwind
Guess I better post my Character history as well.
First guy was Jeff Highwind, my virtual visage in the GW world. Originally I beat just Prophecies with him, then he got an extended vacation once I got factions. about 5 weeks ago I pulled him out of his comfy couch and decided to take him though Nightfall. Right now he has 3 perfect bows (2 recurve, 1 Long), Victos Maul and a trapper staff for UW. He's got a spiffy armor combo and has beaten Nightfall and is going through Factions...slowly.
2nd guy was Cid Nocturne, a Sin. Made him once I bought Factions. Wanted to make him a IW Sin but after having budget problems I decided to make him a Palm STrike sin. Now he's a pack mule, poor guy.
3rd guy was Luther Maxwell, soley ment to be a Ritual Lord protection style. So much I only bought him 16 skills. I never touch him now, and I am plotting to delete him.
4th character, and by FAR one of my favorites, is Eldred the Sinner. Canthan Necromancer, beat all 3 campaigns, has about 20 build types for all sorts of PvE/PvP situations, 8 staffs, 2 15k armors, and is feared in Alliance Battle and Fort Aspenwood. Has Treasure Hunter as well. He's definetly gonna stay, he's one of my favorite casters.
5th is Mint Starburst, only made to get the Grey Giant. Gonna be deleted.
6th is my PvP character slot. The current one is named Makai Priest, but I am gonna delete him and make a PvP ele named Makai Witch. My whole PvP slot is going to be themed from all of Nippon Ichi's "Disgaea" character unit line.

mesmer and still going strong
Dark Luke
My first character was a male R/N, with minions! (and the pre-buff marksman's wager), and ascended using a touch ranger build (pre-factions days). Finished THK while raising bone horrors and bone fiends.
Then I started my ele... mostly as an hammer E/W, got to THK and then had no more interest playing him.
Then I made my mesmer and played for a long time (although very rarely as a proper mesmer) and my ranger thus left in the dust for many months (including running droks and southern shiverpeaks until the nightfall AI update) and she beat the factions campaign.
And now with nightfall I went back to my original ranger, played nightfall (using various fun builds, mostly as a touch ranger, assassin, or spirit spamming ritualist, or a petless thumper), bought him the ancient armor (very long dark coats FTW!) and he's at the beginning of realm of torrent. And I now use him to run droks (R/D)
Oh, by the way, male ranger + ancient armor + scythes = ultra cool look!

Mine was a W/Mo in pre searing. I'm like "...wow this combo blows..." I was horribly wrong.
xxSilhouette
Well it really was my ranger, but after i made her i made a necromancer, and i played with her for quite some time before i even got my ranger out of pre-searing. So i consider the first to be Necro.
Shaz
Warrior! Making another one right now in Pre going for LDoA in my free time when not PvPing Level 13 now after 2 days lol
Nivryx
on my very first shared account with my brother, i played a mesmer (liked the description in the book), but we got tired of sharing when i got out of pre-searing and around lvl 7. bought my own account and decided ranger sounded like a fun profession so that was my first character on my private account.
Reks
Ranger, and I still have him to this day. Can't say the same for my next few toons...
Fluim
elementalist, because that word sounded so cool
nothing special
Heheh....
E/R - Fireballs and pets...what could have beeen cooler? Regardless, deleted him and a number of other characters before I discovered the joys of a Necromancer. Considered Dark Despot my main ever since.
I've tried to play an ele two more times since then, each one deleted for one reason or another. Going for my fourth attempt now in Elona. Going to get her 15k armor and the works, before I have second thoughts about the class again.

Cunning
I started with Elementalist because it seemed simple and I thought dealing lots of damage would be a good way to start out. I got tired of being an elementalist when the only thing worth playing was a nuker, and nuking gets boring very fast in PvE.
cheeze123
Technically, my first char was a mesmer but he was deleted after a couple days (didn't suit my play style).
Mammoth
I marked Elementalist. It was my first character in official release.
Warrior was my first during the Alpha.
I had a monk made at the same moment my elementalist was as well, but it was never actually played for another month.

Samuel Dravis
Currently the monk's percentage stands at 1 in 20. No wonder there were issues with the supply of them when I started with prophecies..
Rint The Healer
My first character with the official release was a necro. Same before the official release. Very soon after I went to monk and thats the main character I play with now. Its good to always have a team.
Spazzer
January BWE, I made a Mesmer. Well, Me/R. I chose Mesmer because picking that class gave me a giant warning sign saying "THIS CLASS IS ONLY FOR EXPERTS".
By release, I had moved to Monk. My mesmer was already deleted by then.

Zinger314
Warrior. He's the only PvE character I've deleted so far. I hated him.
R_Frost
my Ranger was my first and hes the only one so far thats done all missions in all 3 chapters. my monk and mesmer were my 2nd and 3rd characters yet started the same day. monk had the most xp of all my characters due to UW and FoW farming and he's done all the missions in the first 2 chapters and starting to work his way through nightfall. i have one of every profession and doubles of a few, monk, ranger and necro, i have both male and females of those.
Cloud Lionheart
I started out with a Warrior and had great fun not dying every so often. Yeah i'm kinda impulsive and less tactical in combat so Mending was a must when i just started out. hehe actually it still is... SOMEONE CALL ME A NUB!
Helcaraxe
ranger, got really bored of it, really fast. Then I discovered that mesmer was my true calling ^_^
