Forgotten Myth

When i got myself Prophecies i played em for 6 months before i was getting slowly bored, but i continue playing ( little farming here and than and so on ), OK than I got my self Faction on release and i got bored with it after 3 months ( i played threw only with my old ranger and new Rt and Assa ), now i bought NF because i really thought they did something good to PvE when they advertised those big improvements in PVE - at the end i got bored with NF after a month because everything was the same old senn and done before. I hardly struggeled threw NF to the end with my main char ( not because it was so hard it was because i didnt find any motivation to finish it )

If Anet will continue with balancing pve for the benefits of PvP ( and on damge to PvE experiance ) than i most certanly wont buy another chapter. I understand they made PvP oriented game, but if they want to keep their player base high than they will need to do something about PvE, afterall majority of player base here is PvE and Anet knows that ( they said that in some interview month or two before NF release ).

I play GW mostly because its the only free MMO around. If there will come another PvE free MMO ( which i doubt unfortunatlly ) i would switch to another game.

You could guess from my post I am PvE player mostly because PvP to me is even more stale ( I played lots of pvp in D2 so it all seems alike ) like fantasy CS which i dont like, but that doesnt mean I meant any disrespect towards PvP comunity. I dont want to start any flames or something.

Is it really free ? Think about it, you've,according to your post, bought three games in the space of what ?? 12 months ? Its brilliant on Anets part, get people too think they are getting something for nothing, and just keep hammering em with "New Releases", so lets see, 59.99+59.99+59.99=179.97/12=14.97 a month, so ???? Free , whatever!!
I bought Prophecies, played non stop till the release of Factions, where I played the preview weekend, and said WTF happened to the great game they started with, and apparentley reading about the DeadZone that is Cantha, a lot of others felt the same way.
So now what you have is a company trying their best to squeeze every last dime they can from a formula that works, while trying at the same time to hold on to as many of the original customers as possible.
Do you think they care that you only played the succesive titles 1/4 of the time you played the original game, no they are happy about it, they sold you the game(all of em), and got you off the server load, bonus for Anet.
The bottom line is MONEY, when GW stops being the great cash cow that it is for Anet, you'll see the game die, but until then, you can expect a new watered down release every 4-5 months, and if you think they are going to get any better, than you are just what the doctor ordered for Anet.
Realistically, what can you expect, not much.
I said it right after I first got the game, GuildWars is basically a first person shooter with swords and bows, how far can they take that ?

Yes, I will buy the next chapter. Though if it is not going to bring about some changes it will be my last Guild Wars game. I say this as a player who has been playing since Prophecies that certain elements of the game need to be improved. The whole push to level 20 in the last two games makes part of the game feel rushed. PvE isn't about fighting lvl 24 monsters from the get go. Its about leveling up with the game meeting monsters relative to your own level. Now don't get me wrong I don't think Guild Wars is difficult even at its highest levels of play its still relatively simple. Also heroes have killed much of the interactivity between players now for some of you who hate pugs thats fine. But I feel that more players enjoy playing with people and not with hero/henchmen teams. There needs to be more focus on the community and more focus and the gameplay. Correcting problems instead of just nerfing them. possibly going back and fixing older problems too.

Thing is, you arn't forced to pay for new installments, of course people who enjoyed the game will, that isn't really the point(Although that is quite clever of anet). If you don't buy a new installment.. will your account get deleted like it would on other p2p games? Nope. I like how i'm liscensed to play guild wars all i want till 2097 >_>.

I REALLY wish I didn't buy NF...

Personally, I like Prophecies and Factions the most. The only reason I like Factions was because they added 2 really well-built classes.

I don't care what anyone says, assassins are amazing. I practiced and practiced, and eventually became very proficient with an assassin and saw all the different things they could do. The new classes of NF, dervish and paragon(excluding paragon from this because I have yet to play with one), seem kinda sloppy and unexciting...yeah, I know, "you get to swing a sythe around!!!" I personally think that dervishes really aren't that creative when compared to what sins and rits brought to the table. When sins came, all of a sudden casters really had to watch their asses and a boat load of new builds were created to help the caster defend themselves from sins (some specialising in killing them even). When rits came, a new type of healer was introduced, and support from them could change whole battles, to say the least. The dervishes, IMO, really haven't brought anything really new to the table. Paragons on the other hand (remember, I haven't had much experience in using and dealing with them), really seem to be quite interesting. They bring "take-with-you" support that can seriously empower a group.

The only reason that I would ever buy the next chapter was if they created classes that really changed the way that battle is done.

Anet really gives me this weird feeling with the new chapters. its always a surprise with them, even if you tell me all about it before hand, getting into the game and playing is still a joy. So, yes i will be buying the next chapter for sure.

i like the heroes and all but still, i cant seem to find pugs as often as i wanted because of them. its always a nice laugh to join a pug and manage to pull it through when you can tell.. they are ALL clueless beyond belief.

rumored was what, Mayas and Aztecs themed? just what type of classes can you pull out of a hat for that...? I'm sorta thinking a bout a fencer from Spain some how....why? and i guess something like a topic around in the suggestions area had an idea about sacrificing health like a mad man...

well its interesting enough for me!

It'll have to really interest me, and be almost totally different than any of the past games. If the new professions are fun, that'll help too. Also if there is a non grinding/non money needed fun goal to strive for, otherwise I might not. Then again if friends get it, I might just have to sometime later so I can play with them.

The new area isn't really fun either, you can't do it by yourself and have a non frustrating time doing it, and the PUGs are all using or will be using cookie cutter builds, so I had no fun with it. I don't care about elite areas really, I just need an area that changes a bit, gives me money and has fun monsters instead of boring ones. I like playing solo, but I don't like to all the time, that's not why I got an online game. To be with people I gotta go start talking in towns, because barely anyone wants to PUG for missions.

$50 is too much to pay for a few new texture maps and some new polygons.

Change the underlying game mechanics, maybe.
If it carries on like this, even the most fanboish fanbois will feel the grind at some point.

I am not. This is why.

1. The chapters are creating diffusion of the player community. The loss of players is Ubiquitous in most areas of the game where solo play is undesirable. It is hurting the game more then anything else.

2. I have lost faith in game play being fun. Solo play is becoming unfeasible with the broken AI. I tend to solo because I have a lack of people to play with. Solo play has been ruined with the end game of Night Fall. Game play should never be so frustrating that I have to stop playing before I become angry.

3. I have lost faith in Guild Wars getting any better. The trends to counter mandate any creative tactics players develop to move efficiently throughout the game has been unyielding for any evidence of game play allowing for the freedom that drew me to guild wars to begin with. While alone this issue does not warrant a great deal of distress. When coupled with the others it resounds with impalpable value.

4. Solo play is diminished while team play is scarce. Not even the novel Heroes can grasp the tactics considered necessary associated with some vital builds. I observed Dunkoro kill himself with Offering of Blood. Zhed shadow hoof was noted killing himself with Ether Prodigy. They are not capable of timing, or using skills in tactful sequence.

5. The impression that I am being embittered is distressing. With the majority of games there is the tendency for the game to cheat in order to create the illusion of a challenge. With the continued efforts to diminish viable tactics forcing players to conform to stipulated tactics in order to play while creating overwhelming situations that limit the enjoyment of the game. I feel that the value of the game is greatly reduced of any actual viable intrigue.

True this sounds like more complaining.

The goal of this post is not to complain. It is to see if there is anyone else with points for, & counter points as to staying the course within Guild Wars. I want the desires of the players to speak true. If I do not belong in this community because it differs in desire with my ideal enjoyment of the sequential development of Guild Wars I want to know in order to assist me in making the decision of weather or not I should stop playing Guild Wars.

quoted so i dont have to say it myself.
AND NO I AM NOT BUYING THE NEXT CHAPTER EITHER.
due to whats stated above + ruined farming, crap drops, stupid AI, and much more that i care less to waste energy typing about.
id rather get ut2k7 (and thats really bad me saying that cause i hate 2k4 & the course epic games took just the same)

I probably will,why?

1:Almost everyone will buy the new expansion, wich means you will have VERY little people to play with if you play the old chapters.

2: Despite alot of things being in the game already,i still enjoy the new expansions, wich bring changhes, challenges and an intriguing story.

3:How many times can you play the old chapters before you feel youve had enough?

Prophecies? Played until NF came out, back and forth. This was the best one.

Factions? Played until NF came out, went to Prophecies like 3 months after though. I liked the new weapons, that's about my only reason for playing..chests.

Nightfall? I'm done with it now, to boring, made it through with one character. It's like a downgraded version of Prophecies with nice looking environments. I'd only play for chest runs now, or to kill things if I'm extremely bored with everything else.

So unless Guild Wars becomes totally different, or the next chapter looks really really fun..not a chance in this world, a blue hell or Samuel L Jacksons boot, that I'm going to get Ch 4.

I probably will.
Not sure if I will buy it on release date (as I did with Nightfall), or wait a few weeks/months (like Factions).
The thing that bothers me is time.
I 'want' protectors on my 4 core characters for each chapter and for the 2 other characters I want protectors on their continent.
So that means playing a lot.
And I also want to help others getting their titles, so I can be found on earlier missions helping others.

With the addition of a new chapter, that means getting 6 characters through the game. I'm progressing them at about the same time, in Nightfall all 6 are about halfway.
At the current speed, that means playing several more months before they all have protectors.

At this moment, I don't play my Rt and Sin because I just don't have the time.
They make great mules, but that's not why they are created....

I guess, when I get protectors on at least my four core characters before the next release, I probably buy on release date. When not, I just wait a couple of weeks.

Im not gonna complain much about the gameplay. NC-Soft and A-Net do their best on a limited scedule to give us a great gaming experience. Sometimes it falls flat (the faction grinding trying to get a town and keep it). Other times it works out beautifuly (effectivly stopping runners in their tracks by having it so that every person in a group must have the towns mapped already in Factions). And then there are the times it causes me to say "eh" and wonder what the heck is going on (the hero system). Ok there are bugs, but instead of making us pay for every little update like some MMORPG's do they give some of the "smaller" ones to us for free.
Hopefully they will come out with something better on their 4th try. I know I will buy it for at least one of my many accounts, but then I will try it to see if it is worth the price for the others.

What did the OP mean when the OP said about Solo play.. did you mean like: 1. you solo rest of PvE or 2. you and your heroes/henchies solo the PvE?

If it's the 1st point then I have given up on your credibility in the rest of your post.. GW is not for Solo plays, so get a life.

If it's the 2nd point then all I have to say is PvE with henchies/heroes are pretty easy in Nightfall.. and if you can't do it, please try harder.

I will be buying the next chapter

I am going to buy the new chapter, because Guild Wars is still fun. Solo playing can't be avoided. Trying to get a party in the ROF missions is very hard since Nightfall came out and Tyria went empty. They should try to keep the players in the odler games as well

Yes, I will be buying the next chapter.

I really enjoy the game, the variety of three continents with very different mobs and scenery. The different choices of play in terms of PvP, PvE, GvG and the ability to go solo or with a team.

I like the concept of a level playing field too, in so far as I feel that the difference between a 'noob' and an experienced player is softer in this game then it is in many others, no insurmountable power levelling required.

I have made some great virtual friends, and I enjoy playing with them online, we know each other well and it brings the game alive, with alot of banter and fun.

however...

Anet (gaile grey) constantly say well what do you expect from a game that is free in that it doesnt charge a monthly fee...well it is not free and it is irritating that they think people cant work that out, their payment model/ charge just comes in a different form. Here in the uk, we will have shelled out over 10 chapters £300, enough to buy a top of the line games console, and equivelent to a monthly fee, roughly £60 a year or £5/ month...where is it free?

I do feel that the constant nerfing of skills to close loopholes does also mean that many classes are losing their specific edge...I know it has been mentioned before but I play an ele as my main char...the concept of an ele as a damage dealer is well poor because the skills keep being reduced...each skill set should be distinctive to the class and played out fully before release to ensure no nerfing is required.

I worry as the game expands that there are fewer and fewer people in areas, making it difficult to play as a team of players, which is the fun part in PvE.

Alot of our guild/ alliance have gone over to WoW, which is a shame, and most went when factions was released....The risk of putting an area that lacks depth into the environment, hopefully if NF is anything to go by, this wont be repeated.

Yes I will be buying the next chapter, however there are alot of good suggestions on these forums, A-Net should follow them to maintain interest in the community otherwise they risk the disinterest that is clearly setting in and this game becoming yesterdays toy...which would be a shame, there is clearly a sense of fun in the producers and that comes across.

I will buy the next chapter purely because of new skills for PvP but then again if PvP does just get worse and worse then i may rethink buying the next chapter, afterall the main advantage GW had over other games was the PvP side of the game and now that is getting progresivly worse :/

And even though there is no monthly fee if there is a new chapter every 6 months then thats roughly £30 every 6 months which is still less than games like wow but i dont know if its worth it to be honest.

And over 20,000 chapters I would have shelled out US$1,000,000! Enough to buy a nice suburban house! Zomg!

10 chapters will last you five years. So what if the money you spend on 5 years of entertainment playing Guild Wars will buy you a lousy console with no games included in the price.

The comment is not about if GW is good value - I personally think it is, but ANet's comments that it is free, it is not but they use this defense when things dont work, not good enough, they have sold nealr $60 million game sales alone, this is good business and they need to ensure that the game mechanics operate correctly...thats one of my very few irritations with the game, 20,000 chapters...we should be so lucky...

It's too bad that Anet has chosen to depart from the formula that initally made the PvE side of the game such a success. Low lag, doable missions or quests, and lack of "grinding" was what attracted many to Prophecies. As one progressed through the game and leveled their character, each area presented the appropriate challenge for the average player. As would be expected, some players found ways to "exploit" the game while others tried to "shortcut" it. In both instances there came cries of the game being "too easy" on the one hand and "too hard" on the other.

Unfortunately, both Factions and Nightfall (which in themselves had great potential to carry on the original forumla) fell victim to Anet's attempt to "correct" perceived problems. Factions introduced fast leveling, a push towards PvP (with faction points and alliances), and the attempts to thwart exploits. As a result it also introduced more lag, a much greater degree of difficulty for the average player, grinding, and a total failure to stop exploits. It also did little to enhance the PvP portion of the game. Nightfall, it appears, has been given over to those that are the "hardcore" GW players (many of whom are the very exploiters that Anet tries so hard to thwart). It has tremendously increased lag (for a great many if you monitor chat much), become far too difficult for the average player, and introduced "grinding" as part of the game.

What Anet must realize is that fansite forums, especially this one, does not necessarily represent the vast number of average players. In fact, this fansite is actually responsible for promoting many of the "ills' that Anet seemingly wishes to correct. Many, if not most, exploits have their beginnings these very forums. It is not difficult to read about how "easy" it is to circumvent any part of the game, by the "regular" posters in these forums. In fact, there is a great deal of "bragging rights" obtained through announcing how one has found some way too gain an unfair avantage over other players through exploiting some aspect of the game. In many cases, these are the same players that complain about how the game is too easy!

Anet should make every attempt to return the game to it's original formula. Attempting to stop exploiters and cater to the "hardcore" GW players has only made the game far less enjoyable for most players. There are still those that are exploiting portions of the game, and the "hardcore" GW players are still not placated. Nightfall is an exercise in frustration for the average player. Rather than rely on fansite forums, have the GM's monitor chat and even engage in some dialog with players. I'm sure they would find that many long time GW players are sorely disappointed with the state of the game. Please, make the game"doable" for the average player, minimize the grinding, and make GW fun again.
Bravo! You're my man.
I fully agree.
Why I'm not planning to buy next chapter? Because of few things, very essencial as for me:

1) The place.
What would be now? Wild West with John Wayne? Pls also take care of Zorro and Dalton Bros. Or maybe Persia? Yest, flying carpets, "Prince of Persia" running in the backside. But don't forget about Darth Saddam. He may have been the final boss indeed. What else could we get? Artcica? Yes, penguin quest for glory and pride. Voila.

My point is, that, as I guess, most of the total players feel like Prophecies was the best of the best, not counting Pre-Searing as the most interesting land. The tendencies of ANET tremendously go down. As I watched in the DVD bonus Nightfall movie. They thought it would be logical to move the action concerning the sand desert. Ok. There would be thousands of ideas. Sand people. Some scary motives and interesting indeed. Sitches etc. What did we get? Africa. In worst plate. No mystery. No voodoo or similar. I was only glancing at the characters in the cities. They do normally look like HIPHOP stars. Only miss big gold bracelets and chains with big $ sign on the chest.

Cantha wasn't as good as Prophecies world. But the Echovald Forest (didn't miss the name?) was nice to see. And fantastic frozen sea. Perfect.
Apparently there was nothing in NF making it feel better (alike above locations making Factions feel better).

The only big change was heroes. With lots of bugs in it. But they are, good, that something was to be done correct. WAS TO.

2) Skills
The skills for the new characters look fine. And do the job.
But about the 'old' or 'previous' characters? Most of the skills are funny.
And if good and propper skills appear, they're nerfed month later.
So to get skills like "Make me an ice-cream enchantment, that the world will be pink-filtered for 11-15 seconds, and this enchantment will cause nervous exhaustion"? No way, for this I will not give a penny!

3) Characters
When Factions appeared, the new Assassin sounded "cool, great, revelation". During the game it appeared, that taking it as second profession for monk or warrior makes You use 3 skills in total.
Ritualist? Please try making mission with them, like Weh No Su or similar.
I have brave mood last time, shouting to the microphone "After I resurrect You, make as many ghosts as You can. Maybe the enemy will concentrate on killing them instead of You".
The big crack was, as for me, Dervish. For the 1st week of playing. Nerfed. Now - just observe mission locations in NF. There are quite few people who wants to take Dervish into the team. Mostly, because Dervish is the team leader searching for players.
Who would we get now? Santa Claus? Octopuss? Or, better, get a profession called "Administration Worker". He would make monster commit a suicide by signing and preparing more and more papers needed for tax assumptions.

I could for sure add 3 points more. But what does it change? It is useless.

Generally, there will be completly no intence to buy anything more, until:

*ANET provides correct support, not the automatic responders and message killers after 24hrs
* ANET takes care of the bugs and suggestions to make the game work better, instead of thinking out new, mostly missed ideas for the new territories and chapters
* ANET makes patches and versions, which provide players with sort of "freedom" in exploring world, making quests and so. Because as for now, the only changes I see is NERF, LIMIT, DENY.

The rest - make Your own story.
