Factions was SHORT but inovative. I mean seriously how do improve open Prophacies? They added and tryed out alot of new things. One of the best idea's was the addition of endgame items. It gave the game alot of replay value. Prophacies i finished only once out of three due to no point in going through the whole of Rings of Fire unless i needed an elite.
Nightfall has both the experiance of the Prophacies team from being there in the start and the new concepts that the Factions team put together. My only hope is ch4 trumps them all, none the less ill purchase it just for the new skills
The problem with the next campaign

1) You get max armor in Consulate Dock instead of Bone Palace
2) Quests give you lots of XP and something to exchange for supplies with, not useless junks as in Prophecy.
3) You get an endgame green when you beat the game.
4) You spend two days instead of two weeks to reach lvl 20.
5) You get to pick armors, not forced to wear certain set just because of fixed armor insignia. (Knight armor anyone?), also more varied designs (remember necro 15k looking same as 1.5k?)
6) Pvp training area
7) Better hench/hero monk's AI (no more Alesia's suicidal healing touch)
8) Guild Hall npc's, and skirmish mode with guildies.
9) Pve titles
And more... these are all I can think of at the moment.

Right, here is one more...
10) Weapons that make sense, no more of those 3-attribute staves (req. death, fire magic+1, half protection casting time all in one
I didn't like prophecies. I don't know why. Don't ask, I can't back that up with anything. I'm assuming it was because i never got any money or anything decent at all. There are like NO decent drops on prophecies. Ugh. At least for me. The armor sucked too. None of it looked good.
I think factions was more PvP based (This is an assumption) but I kinda liked it due to the rapid leveling. But perhaps that wasn't the best thing.
I personally just love nightfall. The leveling speed is just right, the amount of gold the quests gives is almost perfect. The heros are brilliant. Maybe they aren't SMARTER than henches, but since you can equip them with your own set of skills, they are a lot more useful. I never remembered a minion master hench in the other campaigns ^_^ The armor is utterly beautiful, on EVERY character. All the armor looks good, seriously. (woo fuzzy necro.)
Anyway, I'm done. I apologize if some of this mess has already been said. Woops.

Yea if you listen to the NPCs in the realm of torment you will realize that your standing among the ruins of Orr in Torment itself, with Area where you fight Lich and Shiro being Arah the capital city of Orr and the temple to the 5 gods within it. So Gate of Madness is part of the ruins of Arah in Orr that was taken through the mists into the realm of torment by the Lich. That was the cataclysm.

All three are better than most mmo's out but if I had to pick factions would be last. Personally I didn't like assins or rits so that influenced my opinion, but I know tons of ppl who love them.
Like most game series/movies/tv series etc, you are not going to love everything that they do. But so far they are batting 2 for 3 and as long as so I have no reason to lose faith atm. When I get a chapter that I don't love, I just play the old ones more and know there are some ppl enjoying that campaign and new/active old players leads to a larger community which is what we need. Also as evident in this thread, when a chapter comes out i love there are some that hate it but thanks to the quick output of chapters they know the wait is short for new and hopefully great gaming.

Also, thanks Hell Marauder. I was just trying to put that poster on the spot, but nice save.

We dont have enough chapters to base this on. We have Prophecies(the best), and Nightfall(2nd best) made by the prophecies team, and Factions(the least liked) made by the factions team. Ok, so we have two made that were great games, and one that was bad, but whos to say that the factions team is really going to try something radical, or make another sucky chapter? They may have learned that different isnt always the best thing. Although they may not have learned this, its highly unlikely, the ppl on both teams are smart, they have to make updates for the campaigns all of the time to fix bugs and things that the majority of ppl dont like. We CANNOT say for certain that the next chapter will suck, it could be better than prophecies and NF put together, we have no real idea on what is coming next, and we dont need to criticize something we dont know anything about. As said earlier: "if you think ch.4 is going to be such a bad game, dont buy it and stop whining to others about it."

In hindsight I like Factions more and more. I thought the bad points were that the story needed filling out a bit more and explorable places tended to be crammed with enemies, but otherwise it was pretty good. I thought it had more varied and prettier environments than NightFall. I like the variety of creatures in Factions better than Nightfall, and the asian theme was done very well. Tbh I really can't tell than Nightfall has an overtly African theme. I would have just placed it as being in the desert somewhere.
I like FA in Factions too. I'm looking forward to Chapter 4, as hopefully it'll offer something new, and hopefully not too bland.

Well, i think this thread is wrong in so many ways, but i'm going to contribute to it's lifespan anyway.
(this was already said) Faction's wasn't bad, it just brought something new to the table. (this was not) I read somewhere in here, that multiple storyline paths was a bad part of Factions. Well, YOUR WRONG! That was carried over to Nightfall (Margrid v.s. Master of Whispers), but at a lesser extent than Factions. But, then again, i can't tell you your wrong since it's a matter of opinion.
Prophecies was the best, mainly because you weren't rushed through being a newbie on an island (Istan & Shing Jea), the armors had a purpose for looking different (think about it, does platemail have the same effects in real life as chain mail?), the pets were the coolest (Pheonixes lok like pecocks and hyenas are a reuse of Wolf skins!), it wasn't devastaingly hard (I just tried to cap Power Flux and Healer's Covenant for my skill hunter title and got destroyed 4 times >.<), and the storyline made the most sense (Just think about that one). But, just my opnion, not trying to force it on anyone, but, well, maybe I am.

My idea from May.K
lol Lyra I dun think he was too darn serious about that but hey.. and besides we have learned that the RoT IS Orr.. so yeah.. I get the feeling that the next chapter is going to have an Indi inspired them or something more middle asian... or maybe it could be like American inspired?
*is going to act like the OP now*

- Item Drop Rates
- Special Weekends
- Challenge Missions
- Quest Varity - Improved due to complaints of Factions Fed-ex type quests.
Only to name a few, but really I didn't think that Factions was that bad, I really don't thinked it "Sucked".
I think we all need to put some faith in the company's ability to learn from its mistakes. Honestly, we can't just make assumptions about it, as we've seen that ANet can improve on certain features of the game to keep the Guild Wars community happy (at least mostly).
I'm sure they've learned from their mistakes and will introduce or improve on features that could prove to be part of a very rewarding gaming experience.

Factions was fine. Sure, it didn't appeal to a terribly large amount of GW players, including myself, but overall it was still a success. Regardless, I think that team learned from any mistakes, and I'm confident they won't disappoint.
Biggest problems with Factions I think they will address:
Cinematics/storyline/voice acting - Nightfall proved that Anet knew those three issues were important, and succeeded dramatically, IMO.
Timed Missons - Nightfall didn't completely do away with this, but instead incorporated it into a variety of bonus ideas. This will likely be the case in 4, as well.
Forced Team-Play Missions - This seemed good on paper, I'm sure, but please, don't force us to deal with others if we don't want to.
OMG Kaineng City, WTF - Please no more jumbled, confusing, multi-leveled areas, especially ones that last 1/3 of the game or more. This causes dread in me every time I even consider playing in Cantha a bit. Nightfall appeared to be pretty clear of zones like this, and I am grateful.
Other than that, Factions brought in some fantastic ideas, and the unique gameplay styles is what makes me look forward to Chapter 4. That team is definately creative when it comes to gameplay/features.

I loved Factions. Prophecies was ok. Nightfall... well, I haven't even finished it yet even though I pre-ordered the game. Instead I created a new character in Factions to play through it again. I'll definitely get chapter 4 though, just to see if it'll be more interesting than Nightfall.
I'd say a lot of this is just about personal opinion. Some people don't like Factions, therefore they end up bashing the team that made it. Still, that team has only made one game so far so I think it's not fair to start saying that their next one will suck too. They've had tons of time to get feedback and listen to the players. Also, I don't think the team have a completely free rein over the game itself, since it would run a high risk of the game itself not fitting in the rest of the series. I'd think both teams co-operate in planning all the larger improvements and game content, and then each individual team is left to actually implement those plans. At least I'm sure they talk over the larger planned changes with the other team too. It's not like both teams are trying to make completely different games of their own.
Seriously though, I think it's silly to start saying a game sucks even before it has come out.
