Asura Mini Pet

I agree with kilkelo, though. Even if it's really fugly - if it starts with "minipe" and ends with the sound that "tree" starts with, people will want it and assimilate it into the minipet economy.

Well... people have been asking for a mini rabbit (like in presearing)... so ANet gave us a mini rabbit.

Seriously though, I don't like it at all and think it's ugly. However, if we end up seeing full-size versions of them with crazed looks, huge claws and a grin that could scare a great white shark... then that would be different.

I believe... NOT owning an asura pet will be special. I won't purchase it.

Where in the history that Anet gave us a playable char as a mini?? someone kick me in the head if i'm wrong.

Therefore i would like to conclude that this mini is not a playable char instead i think this is an enemy char, which we will get to bash in the future i hope.

It takes six weeks to process a subscription. I called and asked when the news first went up on GW.com. The May issue is being mailed out in just a few days.

oh woohoo... yet another mini pet that does nothing but take up space! If these mini pet things so much as did 1 damage or gave me some kind of even lame buff while running around my ancles perhaps then I would start collecting these things.

Yep, heaven forbid Anet to add a race into the game that is not one of the generic, overused ones. I think it will fit quite well into the game. I don't see why it shouldn't. Just because it looks different to everything we've seen so far doesn't mean it won't fit. I think a variety of different species will add depth to the game, just like the millions of species in real life add this weird and wonderful experience to the world.

To be honest, I don't really see how you can say they don't fit. You've seen 3 continents from the GW universe. Every single land mass on a planet populated by a set of different species has some weird creature on it. I mean, just look at Australia. We have some pretty freakish-looking critters here. But do people argue that koalas or kangaroos or platypi don't fit into the world? No, because it's a ridiculous argument. The creatures evolved in a different climate, in a different environment. The new critters for GW obviously evolved underground, which explains their ears, eyes and incredibly pale skin.

Yep, because none of the other creatures on GW have any of those features. I'm assuming that you mean that no other creatures have these particular ears, or these particular eyes. But again, it's ridiculous. Just because something is different doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

The Asura looks nothing like a pokemon or digimon. If those crappy cartoons had something as awesome-looking as this, I may have actually watched them.

I think a lot of what is bothering most people is the fact that this thing is very different from what anyone has seen in GW so far. It makes people think that the whole game is going to change to suit these creatures, and change is bad and scary.

Also, I think a lot of what is bothering most people is the fact that it looks cute, so they immediately think it belongs in a children's cartoon. And the general consensus is that anything that is childish is wrong. I feel sorry for those people. Being childish can be incredibly fun. I don't understand why absolutely everyone is so eager to grow up, when most of the fun happens when you're a kid.

It's really unfortunate that some people react so badly when they see this new and exciting creature. I think it's great. It's quite original-looking, it's something new to the game, and most of all, it's not a dwarf or an elf.

Anyways, I can't wait to get my copy of PCG! The little dude looks cool, I don't get why some of you keep saying it's ugly blah blah blah. If you don't like it then stop whining about it, don't get the magazine and don't post your useless opinions.

As we can clearly see two posts above me, ArenaNet and Guild Wars were doomed from their inception, because from the very beginning they ripepd off not only a children's cartoon but an anime. Good thing none of us really liked this game, so it didn't hurt when ANet went bankrupt back in '05 becasue of this.

If The Asura is a race that looks like the mini, i hope that GW2 will have a open PvP system so i can pound the 5hit out of everyone of them who crosses my path.

Now thats asumming if there is going to be a open PvP system (unlikely) and if i am going to buy it (unlikely).

Must agree with most of the rest here, its Fugly and hardly cute from the pic.

Every once in a while publishers think the way to appeal to more people is to adopt cartoony "street-style", "skate-kid" graphics.

Witness the Asura. Low slung baggy pants. Big feet.

Please for the love of god let's hope they don't ruin their great art direction with this cheesy lowbrow crap.

something about the little guy's clothing stuck out to me. the style of it and the pattern found on there is distinctively meso-american (aztec, mayan, etc). take a closer look:


this is a little bit confusing to me, (since the 'Norns' points to a norse theme and 'Sylvarians' something elvish).... and since (at least the name) 'Asura' definitely draws from ancient Vedic ideas (Zoroastrianism, Hinduism) of demons and deity. How these three / four connect i do not know. Any thoughts?

i'm guessing the devs havn't dug that deep into the languages.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still be buying PC Zone so that I can have some idea of how this next release is going to turn out, but I doubt I will even unlock the Azura pet thing.

Well, Every once in a while someone in decidion making place checks demographics, finds hole and gets awesome idea of broadening customer base to fill in that hole.

Shame its has never really worked. And sometimes was quite disastrous.

Anyway, examples of cute things that actually FIT in guildwars:

* Oink
* Ural (from orozar quest)
* Rollerbeetles (!)
* Miniature version of pretty much any dreadfull monster.
* Holiday stuff (key for holiday stuff is that it is gone within week and happens once in a blue month, not that you meet it daily)

Well, I'd be quite happy to take that code off your hands. I would buy the magazine, but I feel that me buying one is taking it away from someone who actually wants it for more than a little minipet.

Firstly, i dont see how any of you thing that the Asurian belongs in WoW.
What are the races in WoW?
Hmmm...lemme see??
Dwarves, Humans, Elves, Orcs? HALFLINGS? TYPICAL RACES IN FANTASY!

What are the races that we've seen so far in GW?
Charr? How the f*** does that belong in WoW too?
Tengu? Oh....does this bunch look like they belong in WoW too?

In short....compare the 2 and what do you get?
WoW has races that look more human that creature!
Even the new race from the burning crusade, the draenei isnt an animal inspired sorta race

GW on the other hand. Charr(3/4 Wolf like creature that stands on 2 feet), Tengu(Bird like creature that stands on 2 feet)

so in short...the Asurian belongs in GW more then it belongs in WoW

and people who dont like...please quit whining...people in here whine 24/7 about everything in GW...im sorry but if you dont like...go play WoW

I have task for you:

Make picture with 3 WoW nonhuman races (Tauren, Gnome, Night Elf), 3 GW races (Tengu, Charr, Dwarf) and Asura (maybe Jar Jar too).

Give it to person that knows s**t about WoW and GW and ask him to put pictures to 2 groups depending on what goes with what.

Tell us results.

With the new mini pet and the rumor about Asurans being a playable race, I'm betting that they're polymorphs.

Morphing were introduced in NF via the Avatar skills, so we know that they have the coding already to change a character into any creature. Also, someone here pointed out that the Asurans have meso-american/south american clothing (see mini) ... a culture that has an extensive morphing in their mythology. Anet probably decided to make the race all innocent looking to give the illusion that theyre harmless, but for those who provoke them ... here's what you get!

nice find Vladimir, i think you might be right!

So essentially... Guild Wars will become Star Wars.... complete with bizarre races and whatnot.

The Tengu, Dwarves, Undead, and such are much better candidates for races because they are more traditional.

I really hope that crazy-ass races aren't the future of Guild Wars. If I want that I'll pop in Star Wars Episode I thankyouverymuch.
