The graphics are wonderful, realistic and in so many ways beautiful. I like that some of the monsters look scary and not silly. That the characters look serious and that the sky looks real.
I used to love Warcraft and I remember when the very first one came out and the expansions... well over 10 years ago now... and remember when WOW first came out too I was excited to get it until I saw the toons that they had for characters... I didn’t buy it and forgot about the game altogether.
I love Guild Wars, I love the story lines, I love the races I love the humor they placed in the game... it has enough cute in it already without being to much like the rugrats or Dragonball Z. But From the look of the new minipet they are slowly going for more toonish less realistic.
And yes we do have cute fuzzy animals in the real world, but I don’t see them sporting clothes as the picture does. If the rumors are correct and this will be a race to play and they look like the mini then I think GW has started a downfall. If GW2 is toonish I wont get it and will be very disappointed in Anet.
I am glad this thread has started early so it will give Anet a chance to read what many of us are saying. In many way this reminds me of Star Wars I and how Jar Jar upset so many people that Ol Steve had to redo the next episode and made sure he left Jar Jar out most of it unlike his first intention which was to have him a main hero in the second... but after public turning on him and the few death threats he chose not to. ( I don’t think Anet will get death threats and I hope they don’t but I do hope they listen and learn to what most of us are saying and that’s we don’t want cute toons as characters
Is this our future?

Lord Bishop Stone, I can understand where you're coming from. I can understand that some people won't like this race, and how you're upset at all the flames bouncing back and forth from this post. But yours is one of the very few well-reasoned posts in this thread. The reason that there's so many flames is because some people are just making threads like "ZOMG UGLY MINIPET!! NOT 133t AT ALL!!!" or insulting Anet, saying their standards have slipped. I understand some people don't like the minipet, but please follow this guy's example and put some thought into your posts!
Now, onto the actual topic. I agree that I would not like GW turning into that pic you attached to your post. But I honestly don't see this happening, even with this addition. Sure, it looks cute and all, but not at all cartoony. Also, we have no idea what this creature will be. Remember that some of the best myths have some sort of cute, lovable creature ripping someone's head off (some types of faeries, for instance), or some sexy looking woman that actually just wants to kill people (Femme Fatale, anyone? Or Sirens if you prefer). But even if this is just a cute little creature, I think GW would benefit from them. At the moment, all the game has is monsters. There's no variation apart from the different types of things trying to kill you. GW is an awesome game, yes. One of my favourites, right up there with Ultima 7 (my all time favourite game). But I see room for improvement, and adding other races that are friendly to your character is a good thing.
I mean, there's many awesome races in the game at the moment (Charr, Tengu, Centaur, although that last one isn't the most original). But I see room for more. In any case, I think we should wait till March 15, when the news from PC Gamer will confirm all this speculation.
