So, was Utopia a red herring? To make us believe it was the next chapter?

What I don't understand is why they would announce a new campaign/expansion/whatever for GW1 at the same time they announce GW2. This has to be a poor marketing strategy no matter how you look at it. Before I would have eagerly purchased a new expansion, but now this talk of GW2 will really make me rethink this decision. In fact it has made me consider quitting altogether. I would rather check out something new like Everquest II or World of Warcraft than spend more time on an old game that will only be replaced by a sequel in a few years. So unless this "major update" is free or Guild Wars 2 is in some manner backwards compatible, I just can't see why they would say this...

What's new about EQ2 and WoW? And Blizzard already said they have another MMO in the works. If GW to you is about working towards FoW armor that you have just realized never had any lasting value to begin with, it's time to find a new game anyway.
They'd probably do the announcement as a way of explaining why CH 4 isn't a full standalone, is the last expansion for GW, and to tide people over / give them something to look forward to.

Yes, but EQ2 and WoW are new to me. Guild Wars isn't. It was only more appealing because they offered new content; to make it fun and exciting once again. Regardless of how certain people regard it, making this sort of announcement will most certainly hurt their sales. If this really was a leak...I'm sure there will soon be a new soul added to the ranks of the unemployed; this one having the unique satisfaction that he cost his previous employer a great deal of business.

tempted to sell my account and everything lol cause i doubt i'll play gw1 when gw2 comes out

Online Video Game's average lifespan = 3-4 yrs.
Sounds about right, it's all relative. When we bought GW, we should've all been aware of this distinct reality. Things die, sad truth of life.

Side note:
Re-reading through this and other threads...These doom and gloom posts are getting old.
IF the thought of a new game being release puts you in a bad mood or even the thought of quitting GW, maybe this game or even possibly this style of gaming isn't for you.
*waits for Thursday with anxious anticipation to put some of this speculation to rest or confirm to focus our attention on what is real*

A new game doesn't worry me at all. It just doesn't seem timed very well, or at least the announcement of it...if it is even true that is. Anyway, what do you bet Guild Wars Utopia was the code name for GW2. Seems logical to me. They wouldn't want people to know about it until they squeeze all the money they can out of the first one. It just doesn't make sense...

Scribe should have alot of info on thursday, that what i understand Gaile said.

where did she say that?

We know it's coming, we know its name, we have hints and bits, but the main course is still unknown... So just keep collecting the ingredients

If anything, it's like getting a puppy, and by the time it's a ripe old dog of 16 years, getting another puppy. Sure, you might play a lot more with the new puppy, but the old dog is still there, occasionally wagging it's tail.

I doubt the GW1 servers would be suddenly cut off once GW2 rolls around.

Sorry, your analogy is flawed.

Well less than 24 hours we will know alot more and I am sure it will be an interesting day for all of us. I hope chapter 4 is more pvp oriented in the sense that you have more things to do after you beat the game like we had in Factions with alliance battles and Fort Aspenwood. That really kept people busy for awhile. Its odd that people would call chapter 4 an expansion though, Anet usually releases a standalone games where you have the option to merge so you can access prior releases of guildwars.
As far as these patents and trademark things I haven't the slightest as to how they work but I'm not believing anything until Anet makes an official announcement. The next thing you know someone will post a map of the world and try to make us believe that the world is actually flat ! LOL !
Happy farming and good gaming everyone !

Actually Buster, I've gone through the process of trademarking and can assure you that it's the real thing. Plus, looking at the history of the listings pretty much proves the timing that Eye of the North will be C4. As for the rest of the stuff in the article, Gaile herself said some of it was correct, some wrong, and some misleading. Again, going with Anet's history of being able to keep a lid on details, I think it's a safe bet to assume C4 will be called Eye of the North, and may or may not be released later than their six month schedule (the lack of a PvP beta thus far any word of any beta hints at this). As for the rest, deductive logic can lead us to belive that C4 will wrap up the current Guild Wars saga, but I think it's highly doubtful it will be expansion only. Guild Wars 2 will most likely be the next production and introduce a whole new realm and storyline to go along with it, to keep things fresh and keep players interested in the franchise.

It's kind of like prophets. Some old men made some pretty vague prophecies about events that would take place. Something bad somewhere at some time was going to happen. Then when something bad happened, the people that believed in the prophets were able to bend certain ideas to fit the prophecies, thus the prophets were obviously correct.
Some people are obsessed with Gwen, they want to know what became of her. Anet keeps leaving little trails of evidence pointing to the fact that Gwen may be alive, or at the very least, was at some point after the searing. Eye of the North may have everything to do with Gwen, it may not. Gwen may not even be a part of it at all, we won't know until it happens.
That being said, it's quite easy to come up with acronyms from most anything to make up some grand idea of something, but usually it's mostly just ideas and speculation, maybe some wishful thinking, nothing more.

I truely hope GW2 isn't gonna be around for like another 10 years at LEAST! Cause by then, i just might be tired of GW... probly not. lol Well, i'll just hope that they are WAY in advance planners who don't have GW2 slated for another 20 years? hehe.
Oh, and techinically its GW:EotN .... not GW:EN. Hehe, you conspiracy mongers! ....
cheers.

Well I still bought and played counter-strike and counter-strike CZ knowing full well that CC Source was coming out.
Just enjoy the game while its here. Thats what games are about its not about being goldly and having perfect items. (though some may disagree with this)
