I've made more runs than I can count and gotten junk, 2 shards, and no gold. all white and purple junk. I have done the mission and gotten empty chests each time at the temple. (went with 3 heroes).
I'm hearing about the same standing in various areas in game.
Anyone doing good? I'd like to think I'm just having no luck then to think it was designed to be a waste of time. One player said "Of course the loot is junk, GW worries too much about the economy. They're afraid a lot of good drops will kill it, with so many down their farming etc.."
Any truth to that?

Going with three heroes is the reason why you aren't getting many drops. Also with the quest chests, only one item drops out of those, so likely it went to your heroes. Should have sent them out of radar range before opening it.

Our guild's only UW Trap run last night (4 man) netted one gold Storm Bow, one Ecto and one Black Dye, not all to the same person. In about ten FOW spider cave solo runs with my Dervish this morning, I've gotten six Shards, a gold Shadow Bow with +5 energy, and a couple of purple shields/bows/wands that are ok. I've gotten a ton of junk/merch drops too, but it isn't that bad for not having to spend 1k each run.

Actually, your only problem seems to be that you went in with 3 heroes thinking you would be getting all the drops.
Learn to actually solo these areas and you'll notice much better drops.

Well after 3 hours of UW I didn't get a single ecto. 
Just loads of glitter, remains and crappy whites.
I'd get more ecto on a normal weekend run just like I get more greens when it's not a double green weekend.

I went solo.. got 10ectos, then got back to farm Domaing of Anguish, its more cool than farming UW. And ... more money. 100k in 5hours in Domain of Anguish kicks-ass.. UW , not even close. But well.. 10ectos will come in handy.

I couldn't get anywhere with it - no matter what I did at least one Aaxte always came with the Graspings. It was never within aggro, it just seemed to break away and come at me when they did.
So I gave up and tried FoW instead - had a better time. Ran past the Shadow army and managed to kill a few groups driftwoods and several dryders. The drops were junk, though.
I'll be trying out a few more builds/characters tommorrow, but I don't see myself returning when the 1K entry fee is back in place.

Meh, this event suck,sure you dont have to pay 1k and that is only cool thing other then that.. is waste of time.Tell ppl to solo it huh? you forgot that this areas werent made for solo! Drops are shit.. waste of time.Why do i have to get weapons and runes for heros when they get all the good drops FFS!!! Ither make drops go to me or make heros weapons and runs selectable like for a pvp character!! T_T this weekend suck!

I love this event. So far, 6 ectos, 20k in cash from selling, and ~ 40 steel from salvaging in a few hours with the E/Me UW solo. It's also really fun imo.

I'm actually enjoying this weekend event. 2 ectos dropped on my recent run and i opened a gold chest. So far i've done 7 runs and i've gotten at least one ecto per run.

UW and FoW are horridly easy, so most people I know refuse to bother with them. Drops suck there anyway.

I got a total of SEVEN Globs from two Smite runs with a solo W/Rt. I also got two gold drops from one MOB during the two runs ... though their mods were maxed, they weren't worth salvaging and just merched them.

The only reason to go into the UW and FoW is to either farm items for m$n$y or to work for FoW armor. Sure you can do it for fun. But after so many runs its old and quite easy if you know what to do.

I've went down with a group of Alliance members today and yesterday as trappers. We cleared very large portions out of the UW and didn't find a single chest in either of the two runs. That's why I'm asking this question:
Why aren't the chests spawning? Does anyone know? I have several keys I'd like to use. We've speculated that it's cause we haven't been doing any quests. Anyone know if that is it? Thanks for any help yous can give us.

went with a trapper group, spent 10 hours clearing....cleared out the chamber-quest, the smite area, did one quest in the vale, most of the burrowers and was clearing the chaos plains when we decided to call it a day (the sun was coming up and we had stuff to do)...we were doing the monuments quest....
I found 1 chest.....in the chaos plains, thats it (and I died before we could get to it).....not a single ecto...but got a horrible gold drop as did my guildee....a brown dye and a red dye.....otherwise tons of whites and blues----

I went UW with a group of 8 (let's not talk about the tanks... ) and NO ONE in the group got anything better than a purple.
The group got 2 purples, 4 blues, lots of demonic remains, lots of dust, money, lots of whites. NO chests spawned in the Ice Wastes, even with the quest active. Then we croaked in the first chamber when the 2nd wave of Dryders showed up.

free entrance fee and not having to worry about favor is nice. drops have always been kinda poor. ive always felt for 2 areas you have to pay to get into you think the drops could be better. havent seen many chests but come to think of it, ever since the change to the chest that was made where they became random( one person could open and get gold while another could get purple) there seems to be fewer chest spawns in both. saw 2 chests in FoW last night, one in the forest and one near the spider cave while doing the forgemaster quest. drops from them were both gold but just a waste of keys. either the quality of drops should be improved, the cost to enter done away with permantly or the tie to favor done away with to make going down to FoW and UW worth doing on a regular basis again. lately the only reason ive gone since nightfall was released was for armor runs for fellow guildies.

I can't complain... I've gotten 19 shards and 3 or 4 keys in about half a dozen FOW runs. I don't open chests, chests suck. Most of those were solo spider runs, all but one. The last was a 7-man guild run, clearing out everything that moved. Ironically, I got 4 shards and 2 keys on that run, and no one else got more than 1... I have no idea why everything was dropping in my favor today. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket?

I'd never been to either place before as I figured the learning curve would be steep a costly. So I was happy to try it out for free.
I was sadly disappointed in the quality of drops. The idea that a challenging endgame area that has an entrance fee would have so many sub-max drops just seems ludicrous. I guess anet feels like the ectos make up for it all but I'm just not all that interested.
If it stays free I'd consider doing some more exploring but otherwise I probably won't bother.

I learned how to farm without spending any money, and although it took me awhile to avoid getting killed by an aatxe, I've still made at least 15k yesterday (heck, I've gotten several purple drops and at least 1 gold drop from the Grasping Darknesses). I'm not complaining about the drops.

Well I like it! I`m making 1k extra each run in the UW but then, I`m not in there for the drops I`m going for legendary survivor title on my new prophesies warrior and only got about 500k xp to go, the ectos are just the icing on the cake. :P

Well, me and a guildy went in with a Hero team and we had fun, did most of FoW, but we got tired.
Regarding farming/etc, I haven't wanted to do any of that, so I can't comment.

In about 10 UW solo runs I got about 15k worth of loot, 2 ectos, 3 keys, and in two chest open i got 1 gold and 1 purple.
In a couple short FoW runs I got 1 shard and about 2k worth. All and all drops seem down, I can't find chest in the UW, but other then that it has been alright.

People need to remember that FoW and UW were the hardest and only true high end area of the game prior to Factions and the SF patch.
So drop items may "seem like crap" to some of you, but that's just cause you've gotten spoiled with NF and its inscribable items and free buried treasures.
Anyway, in the past day, I've goten 11 shards and 1 ecto and 4 gold items. If you want to farm to make money, learn how to do it properly with a good solo build. Otherwise, don't waste our time complaining.

I did a ton of solo and 2-man/3-man trap farm runs in the UW. Never got a single ecto. :'(
Things were better in FoW, though. Did several excellent B/P groups, got a few shards (I'm going to wait to sell them after the event is over and the economy stabilizes), etcetera.

when im not lagging or rubberbanding, with a constant 79 ping i might add, i usually get good drops.
