And if they do continue to add, Why get GW2 after all the time invested in GW1? And if we do get GW2, who the hell has time to level to 100 if you want to keep GW1 characters active?

I wish they would port GW1 characters to GW2 in a future upgrade.
Well, the Hall of Monuments is supposed to address this. Details are sketchy right now, but for most casual players, it won't matter.

We don't have anything of value to transfer over anyway...

No, porting over characters has already been ruled out... and besides, what would you have to play with in GW1 if all your characters had been ported to GW2 anyway

Anyway, we do know that Achievements, titles, etc will be passed on through the family system the hall o monuments brings in GW:EN and I for one don't intend to push through GW:en like I did Factions and nightfall, but take my time and find everything there is and play other games so i don't burn out too long before GW2 betas start

I have already culled a couple of my GW1 characters before this happens and have gone down from 7 characters to only 5 and i think another will be going soon, leaving only 3 and a presear character, especially as i will carry on helping new people in GW1 and especially in presear after GW2 is released and my main three characters have grand children ripping up the world a hundred years in teh future

I read somewhere that A-net will not be adding any new content to GW1 once GW2 goes live.

Whether or not they will still do holiday events isn't clear, but I'd say highly unlikely.

I predict that it'd be exactly like what happened to Diablo 1 when Diablo II hit. Diablo 1 is a barren wasteland, or at least it was last I checked a few months ago.

Nope, as jeff Strain stated in the latest interview, although they don't plan to add any more expansions after GW: Eye of the North, they haven't ruled it out either and may do future expansions, and he confirmed they would carry on doing special events and holiday specials

you don't honestly think A-net will release expansions with GW2 on the horizon....

they're going to need all their resources and focus to make GW2 a success.

GW1 is over, just accept it and move on.

Ok, sceptical view aside, I honestly think differently... We all know that ANet has a habit of springing things on us from time to time and besides, an expansion needs less prep than a full new chapter and we don't know what updates we'll get aswell that they will release through expansions

anyway, they will still have a viable product in GW1, so why not keep it fresher than things that have come before like Diablo 2, etc...

NOTE THIS

ArenaNet, located in Bellevue, Washington, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NCsoft Corporation.

clear now??...........NCsoft is paying the bills not Anet

holliday events have been stated as continuing.

and why not as all the expense/development/work/programing has already been done and is simply (as proven last winterday/halloween) simply activating the existing code.

sheesch already

and the sidekick system is fundamentally brilliant not broken as it allows casual players to interact with the community in response to the comment on that topic.

i dont see any problem to lvl my char to lvl 100. why because gw 2 will be a way bigger game then the campains we have now. if you start a char now you can lvl to max lvl in lets say 1 day and if you are pro in 5/6 hours.
in GW2 the maps and the playable world will be bigger then it is now. if you got to lvl your char to max lvl and if it takes a week or 2 weeks, so what.
i got to say a lot things are not clear, what i am saying, nothing is clear. so lets just wait and see. I dont think annet is willing to fck up GW and i think they also read our comments on this forum. so lets have a little trust in the makers of GW.

Honestly, with the little information we have been given so far, its WAY too early to tell just how this will be effective in GW2, or what the conditions for a lvl cap will be, if there is one... They said that it would be balanced, and we just all have to hope to god they get it right this time as we have all seen how the balancing issue has gone in the first game....

basically I really think there's no substitute for playing through the game, getting your level up, and being an experienced player.

does getting this sidekick bonus give you skills? Just because you now have 500 health and attributes, but starter skills... is that going to help you do any sort of serious quest or mission?

granted this is all speculation, but right now I'd say the entire idea is flawed. If this were a traditional mmo it'd work better, but GW isn't a traditional mmo.

ahhh! But your forgeting one thing GW isn't a triditional MMO, but GW2 is probubly going to be. The sidekick feture (yes I know my spelling is horrid) is actually from another game (COH, COV) and was very succesfull in them and it promotes team play and mentorship. And I believe it says it gives you temp lvled skills so your not hendered by being a lower in a group of higher lvls. All in all I like this feature and the fact that some people can't play that offten might get to see highend areas normally off limits by "L337" ness.

and you are very blind as it states that characters DO NOT carry over, however, a characters achievements, titles, etc will as an inheritance for the GW2 character that is linked throught he hall of Monuments

i proberly wont buy gw2 but i think the level cap was a great idea, it could be argued that it set a limit on what could be done after you reached level 20 but new campains handeld that quite well. I think a limitless level cap would change so much it would b more grind wars than anything :/, but wasnt grinding supposed to be a dead aspect of this game?

Leveling in GW2 should not be a problem due to the fact that we are getting the sidekicking system implemented. So wether you are a casual player or not leveling no matter what the cap is should not be a problem.

The issue I would have if a level 20 character is equal to a level 100 character. Why ? Well first of all we will not be allowed to PK people in towns or outside areas so everyone no matter what level are safe from this so no worries. The higher the level the more potent spells/skills one should be able to obtain. Look at every MMO out there today, the higher your character is the more potent your character becomes. This system works if you have a high level cap which almost every MMO has.

I know Anet is not trying to do what other MMO's have done but look at it this way. What is the point in having a higher level cap if a level 20 can be equivalent to a level 100 ? This means that there is no reason to even have a higher level cap in the first place. I just hope levels mean something in the game and not just mean showing age of a character. I can simply do that by look at the amout of xp I have.

according to Jeff Strain level will increase your characters power and not be cosmetic.

the interview states that a STRONG sidekick system is needed to ALLOW lower level characters to continue to interact with higher level friends.

STRAIN also stated 10+ levels would be enough difference to make the lower level character a burden on the group.

he stated that the sidekick system would ALLOW as he said the lower level player to KEEP UP and not be a burden.

sidekicking is temp for the mission/quest/adventure and not a permanent power level.

i think its great

I hope the levels will just be like an extra always-displayed title. Beyond a certain point it has no effect. That way you can brag about it, but it doesn't affect gameplay.

Lvl 20 cap is this single best thing about Guild Wars. While the current talk about "power curves" or whatever does worry me I am willing to wait to find out what they are going to do.

this is not GUILD WARS THE REMAKE

according to the people making it it will be a clean slate taking what worked with GW and the best of MMORPG and putting them together.

one thing agreed on from them is that the level cap system of GW1 is dead and gone.

example is the sidekick system which will allow a casual player to go on a mission/quest with higher level friends.

if the levels were only a cosmetic number thing they would not need to sidekick someone so they could keep up.

from what i understand the no lvl cap will be something like a title....just shows seniority and xp earned. basically skill points and attribute points if they even implement them into GW2 will be capped at a certain point (like 20 or so) to keep everything balanced. there will obviously be some sort of balance cap if there is going to be balanced pvp with no chance of anyone who creates a pvp char being better then anyone else who also creates a pvp char. if that makes any sense

if it doesnt count explain why the sidekick system is needed simply to let a lower level player go out with higher level friends?

EDIT FOR QUOTES
Jeff Strain

Quote:
so Guild Wars 2 will have that aspect too, in fact we're really highlighting that aspect and making it easier to get into that aspect by saying, there's nothing you have to unlock, you don't have work your character up before they can compete in that aspect of the game. There won't be different character types for roleplaying and PvP, so you won't need to create a PvP character or anything like that. In Guild Wars 2, any character can go into the balanced, competitive PvP matches, and when they do they will have access to the high-end skills for their class like the other players, and they can immediately jump into high-end PvP.
Quote:
Arena Net, it seems, is trying to tackle many of the biggest drawbacks most current massively multiplayer online games face. Chief among them is level capping. Why, once you top out, should you stick around in a game?
Guild Wars 2 is trying to deal with that issue by using a system with a high level cap once that could be set to 100 or even boundless.
"So there is not a level 20 cap," Strain said. "Either it will be a high level like 100 or unbounded, we haven't decided."
Besides these significant changes to the game, Guild Wars 2 will also introduce plenty of smaller ones, like the ability for your characters to do things like jump, swim, even climb trees.

So what happens when you are a lvl 50 and you dont have any higher lvl friends and you are trying to fight a few lvl 100s in pvp.... The sidekick system isn't going to be some amazing thing thats gonna keep everything balanced like GW is now. There is NO point of creating a game that doesn't even keep the basic ideas behind it and keep the same name. GW2 should keep some of the ideas like minimal grind, more skill, and casual players can be as just as powerful.
