How did you come to choose your first profession?
Issac
I’m just wondering how people came to choose their first profession. Since you were new to the game did you just pick a profession that you thought would be easy to control and handle just to learn about the game first? Or did you choose a profession that you enjoyed and you like no matter how complicated you thought it would be?
Bryant Again
Well, following the common knowledge that warriors are awesome, I was easily able to choose my profession right off the bat.
Former Ruling
I bought it, and read the manual (I'm nerd I know), from what I read Ranger sounded the easiest cool profession to get into. There ya go.
My original secondary was elementalist. Yes I choose ele because I thought "Ranger is gonna be long range...I'll throw some elemental dmg in there too", and one of my first builds ivolved a bow attack build with Ice Spikes (so they dont run away ).

Honestly, I thought the necromancer armor looked awesome. So I went with that.
Hyprodimus Prime
The elementalist was the closest thing to an arsenal. I just finished Ratchet DL so i was into the one man army stuff.

Warrior because in every RPG i've played i always play a warrior first or some kind of melee character. Then the second prof is ranger and ten whatever is 'trendy' or helpful
KingKryton
i prefer melee combat over magic etc so i chose warrior.
the whole magic only thing doesnt really do it for me.

Keekles
monk, I like to play support and healing characters.
Sk8tborderx
Warrior, I read the manual before I made a character, and thought I would be able to do an insane amount of damage if I went as a warrior and had a pet. (Took me until the desert to realize it sucked)
Nash Vegas
I chose ranger... I'm not sure of the exact reason, it was about a year and a half ago. I just liked the idea of the class, being about to attack from a distance as well as up close, command nature, charm a pet, it all sounded really cool.

Mesmer. I'm a snobby intellectual; I know where I belong.
Apok Omen
I like seeing things go boom boom....

as for myself warrior was a no brainer, big armor, big muscles, even bigger.. sword how could i NOT choose one?
also i've always been known as the sword and sheild tard so why shouldn't i choose it?
jshrimp3
I've always been a fan of Necromancers, in all RPGs. So it was an easy choice.
Redfeather1975
I picked a mesmer because when I was deciding to buy GW, I was looking at their main site and happened across an article about the mesmer.
I then decided to go Me/Mo because from reviewing skills at the wiki, I saw that the combination would allow me a playstyle that closely resembled my favourite Everquest 2 profession, the Inquisitor. A profession that deals in mental domination and healing.

I like magic nukeage, the elementalist was obvious.
Seraphic Divinity
I first made a monk because I read how everyone wanted monks for their groups (figured I'd get a lot of experience playing that way), then I saw a cool shiny thing on several characters heads (factions ele head-ware) and fell in love with elementalists ^_^
Toutatis
I'm a player who transferred to GW after playing the Dungeon Siege games for many years. I'm the kind of player who loves to strategise, play off enemy weaknesses, and develop an intimate knowledge of the game environment over time. I also wanted to play something different, and after looking at the profession parallels between DS and GW, the Mesmer was the only way to go
bigvisg
I have had fun playing warrior type characters from other games, so that made my decision. Although I nearly picked Necromancer (my 2nd character btw).
1 up and 2 down
first I started with a necro but I didn't like the hair I chose, so I deleted him. Then I saw sins(yes factions was my first gw game) so was going to be a sin then my first gw friend said they were weak so I went to a ranger and while I was playing some with him I noticed that I couldn't play it right and my friend was a rit so I made a rit and fell in love with the many different roles it can play.

I picked ranger because my favorite class in Diablo II was amazon. My second and most favorite character is monk which I made because I was sick of having noobs let me die.
ElinoraNeSangre
I checked out all the character options and finally decided that I had to have green hair.
... what you mean other people don't do it that way?
My second was a monk because people always said there weren't enough monks.

Selerious
Always remember wanting a heavily armoured Ranger before i knew how the armor system worked, ditched the armor and kept the bow.

Elementalist. The statement: "They can inflict more damage in a single strike than any other profession." in the Manuscript appealed. I tend to pick casters over meleers in RPGs, and my main char in Diablo II is and was a Sorceress. Continued that trend, I figure.
First char only lasted to around level 8 though. First level 20 char was a ranger. Not sure why picked that.

angmar_nite
I chose ranger because of the attractiveness of the female model. Seriously. But that got deleted fast after I saw my equally newbie friend's ele. Flare spamming look so cool back then, and worked so well in pre. Now my ele (no longer a flare spammer naturally) is the shit.
dead man ivan
I read Wiki beginners guide till I was waiting for it to be delivered by mail. It said that Warrior is easiest to pick up and since I hadn't played any MMORPG before this I went with the warrior.
I still have him and every other profession in PvE only though.

My first character was an elementalist. The reason I chose her...I saw her dance and thought it funny to do. The end.
FelixCarter
I enjoy protecting, taking care of, and aiding people. Thus, the Monk was an obvious choice. Being a support character is always a role I love to fill. ♥
prism2525
I didn't want just to do damage, I wanted the HIGHEST amt. of dmg possible. So when i read "can deal the highest amt of dmg in a single strike" on the manual... the choice was easy.
Elementalist FTW!
Elementalist FTW!
Blackest Rose
Simple.... Game came with 4 slots, so I bought 2 copies.
Made a toon of each class on the same day and regularly rotate depending on mood to this day....

I pickup necro because. Inside of me have some evil though.
Kool Pajamas
I read the manual and it said Elementalists deal high damage with magic or whatever...and thats the type of stuff I'm familiar with from other rpg's so thats what I went with. I went with Necro for my second character because I liked the idea of being able to control an army of undead. And those are still my favorite 2 professions.
cyberjanet
Necromancer was an entirely new breed to me, so I went with that. Teamed it with monk, liked the idea of having death in one hand and life in the other.
GodofAcid
I've always been drawn to mages in games. They tend to do the most damage out of any class, and have a variety of skills. I get bored with the same block/hit that are warriors in most games, and i've never liked archers in any game. I must admit, necros are pretty cool in GW. The ability to run two completely different offensive types in MM and SS necro gives them the variety I seek as well.
Corinthian
I read some forums and learned that a W/Mo was the most popular and easiest... A damage sponging tough person with huge damage and battle endurance combined with divine healing... Invincible. Nah I just thought I wouldn't have to worry about learning the game right away and decided just to enjoy it.
Zaganher Deathbane
First time I've seen GW was my friend introduced me to it, he was using a 10Hr trial for prophecies which he got the day before from an internet cafe after he saw someone playing it. I tried it, made a warrior since I don't like fantasy class and since my friend made a ranger. We both have no idea about this game and the Warrior that I chose was just something that I'm curious to try
Mitchel
Domination? Had to make a class who sepecializes in that ^^
Harvest
i choose a paragon because it was all about the look and it just had the right face/ hair/ body that i see myself as ( slighly older, and sexy)
Kotetsu Rain
Well... I kinda bought GW without checking the video card requirements so I had it stting in my room for about 6 months before I myself had worked for and saved enough money for a pimped out gaming computer with a high enough (actually more than enough) computer. Though through this time I had been roaming around forums and popping in and out of character guides people had made and started to think that an E/W could be cool.
Then I started reading into armor levels...then I thought HELL NO!
So I ended up with a W/E using conjure spells and even tried a glimmering mark build. (In PvE I even brought Lightning Strike along )
My second character though (Ranger) was chosen for one reason.
...
They had bad a** capes. :P

I chose Ranger after reading the manual. I wanted something that could deal a decent amount of damage, survive pretty well and help others out. Took me a while to get used to the playing style and having a pet but I enjoyed it. Initially teamed it with a secondary ele because I thought the extra damage would be nice and unlike Former Ruling who had a logical thought process going on mine was one of "more damage!!!!". I still have screenshots of a noob me about 2 weeks in at level 18 with Fire Storm and Fireball on my skill bar. ><
