How did you come to choose your first profession?
Darth Kukulkan
I gained access to the last beta test Week End, so I arrived the saturday with the idea I would have just 2 days to play ! All the week before in my classroom I remebered of what I learned on professions, the pros and the cons etc... but the evening I had still no idea ! So i read the little description of the 6 classes, and by elemination, I finally hesitated between Necro (which I really fought I would play forst, Elementalist (why not I said), and ranger (caus I always play a thief, an infiltrator, and it was the too close to this role : now my second favorite classe is assassin for this ! )
I finally took the elementalist, but I played 1 day and decided to try all other classes to be sure of my choice when GW would release (one thing I was sure about is that I would buy it )
So I try all, and I have still no idea, I love the ranger, I leve the elementalist, I hate the warrior (I still do ), and the others I hesitate too.
The first day post release, when I reactivate my account, I delete all my characters to start totally new and enjoy again presearing ascalon : and at this time, I make an elementalist, but still not really sure of if will please me.
And I am here, 2 years latter and 1100 hours on my elementalist, my favorite class by far, really not regreting the others : I've tried and unblocked all skills of them, but even though they are really fun, they stand no chance against an elementalist (a matter of fun, not power)
The elementalist si the most versatile class of ALL : if you are bored of nuking with no brain, just play another element and all is different ! And after 400 hours testing all elements, try multi elements builds, it's fun too ! And after 2OO more hours, try a secondary profession and dicover that every caster can be played with a very good efficiency as an elementalist due to their large energy pool !
So looooong live the elementalist ! May the emperor make them a playable profession in GW2 !

Elementalist, 'cause they use the four Elements (go Lightning!).

1) I love the idea and fiction behind elementals, so thats why I chose my first character as an ele.
2) I hate close combat, so I basically chose any other profession except warrior.
I now have an ele, a necro, a ranger and a Rit. All casters or long-range attack. I cant stand playing close combat, because its not fun and there doesnt seem any real tactics to just "hack-and-slash".
Plus from experience most warriors are arrogant and big-headed and like to agro stuff, and never listen to instructions.
Plus about 80% of players are warriors (my guess), so its not very original.
Im going to start a mesma, because their hard to find and a challenge.

I've always enjoyed playing healers in RPGs so there was no hesitation in my choosing a monk for my first character. There's just nothing quite like the satisfaction of having your party go, "Holy crap, how did we just live through that?" Even if they don't make the connection, you know why.

I chose ranger because I'd watched LotR before hand
I like the whole idea of surviving using nature to fight people. I hate slash and hack but i also find the elements boring. My ranger seemed like a good alternative! The idea of taming a pet excited me and soon I had my little Melandru's Stalker called Scarling. I kept him right until I found the black moa. I so regretted giving away my pet and getting the bird so now I use no pet.

I started and went through most of Prophecies with a blood build on my original male necromancer, but I eventually deleted him after my female necromancer caught up. Even after playing for almost two years and now with three campaigns instead of just one, there is still plenty to do. I now have ten level-20 female characters, all of whom I consider my online girlfriends. I double up on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

i like complicated classes that give many options and are hard to play.
so after looking through the bit of information i could gather about the gw classes i chose mesmer.
this was at the e34e 2004 (geez, has really so much time past ? ) and i kept playing mesmer even after release and did even the pve part with my mesmer.
after a while i started playing other classes (monk, ele, warrior in pvp and warrior in pve to get some skillpoints easier).

Warrior is the best profession for start the game, even if you don't like it. When you feel you understand the game, you can decide if you will restart with a different profession or continuing with the Warrior.
The question about what profession is the best for starting is too popular, and I always has one answer: Try ALL professions; You don't lose anything deleting a character you played for some hours.

I played a fomar in PSO:BB which is a melee magic caster and loved it, bezerking with one of the strongest heals was great
From reading the NF manual it described the Dervish as a melee magic user so I went with that

My first character was a ranger because I played a R/Mo in beta and loved it. i chose Ranger in beta because.... I dunno! I think I did a random selection.
Esprit
Elementalist because it was the closest thing to a mage, the profession I play in all RPGs.
Sihaya Syme
(blood) Necromancer/Mesmer
Because it's seriously the closest to my personality xD

Well here is the way it happened for me!
I picked dice and for each number there was one profesion so i throw it and it was warrior!
I was thinking to my self this could be cool! I mean it is cool to play profesion that most of people won't play! Who wants to play with profesion that does mele dmg and is the tanker? Well aperently evryone did so when my Warr was standing there on the spot where u spawn when u begin game, i saw 5 warriors around me and i said heeeeellllssss nooooo!!! So i deleted him and rolled dice again!
So there it was a monk! Profesion that is most helpful and only experts can play it good! That is perfect for me! NOOOT!!!!11!!1!!11
Then i read manual once again and i thought that Elementalists are cool so i made one and got him to shiverpeak and i needed help from guildie so there he was. Ranger in 15k Druid's armor! I instantly deleted my ele and made Ranger! And there it was perfect profesion for me! Now Raziel Archer is my only PvE char and i am not intending to change that!
Then Factions came out and i was like:
"z0mG!!11! ho l337 is that! sin must r00lz!"
And i made one played him for about month - deleted him cause i got bored! And then i made one for PvP! Most intresting profesion in PvP imo!
Nightfall came out and paragons were so sexy that i just had to make one! So i played with her and got here to the Desolation and then they got nerfed even more and i deleted her!
And that is how it all happened!

Rocky Raccoon
I chose the Ranger beacuse it is a character I have played in other RPG's. My secondary monk allows me to reconstitute (Rebirth) a group because I am able to survive to the end most of the time.

some friends kept bugging me about getting the game, so i did, and then i wanted to be someone who can do insane ammount of damage, so ele was the choice. #2 character was ranger cuz i saw a ranger save the whole party in one of maguuma missions, and i just loved the spike trap that she was using along with rebirthing everyone.
now my fav character is sin cuz i just love the armors, and the cool moved they have along with being able to nearly kill an enemy by urself who is much stronger than you.
also remade my sin after beating factions, and remade my ele cuz i wanted to do the factions preview event but had no slots... made him back as goofy lookin as he was before.
now i love my sin the most, and i like the cool animations of attacks on my dervish, ranger and warrior as well, so they are my favourite, still play sin the most tho

Mesmer, because all the other classes looked ugly. ^^
Maximumraver
I've always been an Elementalist or something similar in every RPG/MMORPG I've played so the choice was easy.
Arduin
Ranger, I like to attack at range, using a pet, and have a clear view of whats happening on the battelfield. (while playing with my W or D, it just seems a blurr really)
GloryFox
After reading the professions list I chose Monk. I figured everyone likes a good healer at their side. Plus at the time I chose Monk Smite BA did not cause monsters to run away and lasted a good amount of time.
- Tain -
N/E... thought I was 1337 with a blood/fire build
My 2nd char and favorite since then has been Ranger (ftw!)

I started playing about a year and a half ago. I read that mesmers were the hardest and most complex, so I chose that as my first profession.
My second character was a monk. Just because I wanted to go from one opposite to the other, where no one wanted you in a party to where everyone wanted you in a party. I also had a little payback. "Invite that mesmer or I leave".
Third, warrior, fourth ritualist, fifth dervish, sixth ranger.

In all my RPGs and MMos I try the warrior (paladdin type) class first. So that was my first choice. Although I'm glad I have since tried all of the others as I love what they all have to offer and the diversity within

Ranged attacks, knowledge of wilderness and the ability to have a pet. Done deal.

I've always been good with casters, so my first char was an Elementalist. I later deleted her for a Monk to which i still have to this day. I later made 3 different warriors, 3 different rangers, 2 mesmers, 2 eles, 2 sins, a dervish, and a necro.
Right now I have a copy of my origional monk (never let anyone know your account, as my little cousing salvaged and borrowed stuff and i had to start over), a warrior, a ranger, a sin, a dervish, and now working on another ele.

My first characters was a wammo...I mean warrior...just wanted to learn the game and enjoy it then choose a profession that best fits my playstyle.
1st warrior, 2nd mesmer(RIP), 3rd necromancer,4th monk(also RIP accidental deletion when making a deleting a pvp monk w/similar name) 5th ritualist(fav), 6th assassin, 7th paragon, 8th dervish
this is the order of the profession from creation.(PVE list)

I have always played magic users in most games so picking ele wasnt a tough choice.....my second choice was mesmer followed closely by necro......and lastly a monk (my guildee kept at me about why there were never monks around so I made one!)
These are still my favorite characters to play---to date I have 3 eles, 3 mesmers, 3 monks and 2 necros (dont like the character creation options for them).....followed by 2 rits! Casters are my choice of characters, I dont do much melee though I do have 1 ranger and 1 paragon (ugh).

Narcism
I wanted a character that could farm and be good in pve. and wanted to unlocked mesmer skills (my favorite class at the time)

I first made a necro because they look dark and sinister, I like that. Then I made a warrior because I liked the skins of the weapons I saw. When I reached Thunderhead Keep I saw all these "LF Monk to go!!" messages and so I made a monk.
Diablo???
I saw her on the cover
and I was sold, not only the game but the profession as well.

Back in the day the character making screen was completely different.
You basically had the choice of class on the left side, the model in the middle, and the various options on the right.
Since it was much faster to just see the various classes and options as a model, i started comparing the looks of them.
I didnt know much about the class itself, but i loved the model, so i started a monk!
Whilst ive deleted around 4 monks by now, they all looked like my original one (except for hair color)...

Started an Ele First if I remember got bored deleted and made a ranger, kept ranger to level 10 and left it. Made another ele. got Bored
Didn't touch GW for like 5 months. Assassin came, fell in love.

I think I made a monk first because I've always liked supporting people....To date, I've completed all 3 campaigns with my monk only >_> I get bored of the rest after I get halfway =X!
Dark-NighT
I took a necro as first char, i read something about exploiting body's and blood magic and followed up on that. Today still one of my favorite characters
prism2525
As I posted earlier on, I'm a born elementalist. however since every one here is stating all his/her chars ever...
second was a female war... was crap at it and kept dying (in pre-searing i might add) and busted her. Then I made another male with the same name.. W/Mo total ownage.
Then I made a ranger and a monk, all pve, i had only 4 slots (extras didn't exist yet) and all of them full. I needed to create a PvP char for something, so I blasted the monk, lvl 20, ascended and all...
Blasted the Ranger as well and made a necro.... and another necro which took place the 1st one when i had the extra slots...
Then remade my monk which is my farmer...
Remade my ranger like 10+ times as i kept dying and i WANTED the survivor title (which i have now )...
Made an assassin which i stopped playing due to me getting annoyed that she would die with 2 hits...
NF came out, and I made a dervish. Full runes and armor and everthing but then warped back to my ele...
started a rit and paragon which are still @ lvl 1-3...
Made a mesmer which is still in pre-searing...
Now i still have an empty slot solely for PvP...
That's all folks

Came into guild wars with the misconception that it was just a very pretty cookie-cutter MMO with Diablo influences. Thought I'd make a paladin character so i went W/Mo. Once I cleared up my perception of the game and started to understand it I really got into the Ranger for its versatility and with the addition of Factions I've found the Assassin to be ridiculously fun.
noname4me
My first one was a Warrior, simply because I wanted to play an easy to learn class and one that isnt going to be extremly critical to the victory of my team.
Next was Ele which I like far more.

Sir Skullcrasher
I picked warrior because that is how I rolled in Diablo 2!!
Mord Sith Reyna
I made a ranger/ele trying to model him after Richard Rahl from the Sword of Truth series. I played him to about level 8ish and got impatient with the low amount of damage he was doing. Sooooooo...
I created the most stereotypical WHAMMO (yes... mending, smites, the whole 9 yards...) which in fact turned out to be my real first character.
I've since learned the errors of being a n00b.

When I played GW in the WPE (prophecies WPE ofc) I made a ranger. I'm kinda the ranger guy but it was just a test weekend so I was just rolling thru the game to see what it looked like.
By the time the game came out I had a whole different perspective because out of the core 6 classes only 1 of them stood out, which was Necromancer (yes not Mesmer). After looking at the skill listings on the web I realized that Necromancer was the only class that couldn't be stereotyped. (Warrior: Melee hitter - Ranger: Ranged Hitter - Monk: Healer - Ele: Elemental Mage - Mes: Anti Caster)
Seeing the necro render on the cover only provoked me more to play a necro, although it was gonna be a male one The secondary was going to be a Warrior for role playing purposes, and since I knew nothing about the game (or metagame for that matter) a N/W Meleemancer called Kryth was born ^_^
The faces were so ugly tho, I had to spend half an hour to actually come up with a human looking necro with decent hair. I still have him to this day and he's still my fave char.
2nd Pve Char is Warrior followed by a Ritualist as 3rd.
P.S. If 10 of these classes were available from the start my main would probably be Ritualist and the 2nd would probably be a Dervish instead of a Warrior.
