In my experience chests don't often spawn near the portal you entered the zone from. So by dying/ressing in the middle of map you cut out the 2mins of running around the start of the map for just 1chest - probably none.

This way you can get like 2-4chests in 2:30mins which is better than pongmei for chest/time ratio imo.

Btw I never knew you could get 6 chests in an area

I do this on HM ofc!

Theres actually a spawn just down the hill from where you start across from the ranger boss, and another a little further past that towards the second ranger boss, usually in between the 4 stone pillars behind him.

picture of path and where i've seen the chests spawn the most

Yea you're spot-on with them chest spawn locations. Better map than mine lol.

If ya wanna run the entire map then definitely do it!

In my experience I've never got anything decent from chests that are linked to Blood Drinkers/Wallows/Stone Pillar things. Getting Amber Wands/Staffs/Bows all the time! QQ

Echo's are dropping 95% of the time from Kirin/Dragon Moss linked chests. Guardians obv dropping from warden chests. Had a few Echo's from Dredge chests which was weird O_o! Had couple of Jugs drop from chests near Kirin too (think that is just coincidental though). Gothic Duals dropping from Warden/Kirin/Dredge chests.

Had no perf shields yet, but I will get something awesome sooner or later. Fingers crossed! :P

Is Boreal Station the fastest way to max the title?

After opening around 400 chests outside of Boreal and the same amount in Silent Surf, my calculations show that Silent Surf is faster. Minimum amount of chests in Silent Surf run I get is 3 and run takes 3 minutes (I use heroes for Charge and Fall Back and Incoming). Boreal run is usually 1 chest (rarely two) but there are often dry runs without any chests. I run in NM (don't care about golds, only want to max the title).
Kilroy run is also fast and guarantees one chest. A lot of armor drops there though (on the other hand good chance for nice runes).

If you want speed, my personal recommendation is Silent Surf. Map was posted in thie thread some pages ago.

other fast runs if you are only talking about one chest per run is bukdek byway outside KC - 30-40s run, and the outcast chest run which is 30-35s (10s of which is rez time), BUT the bukdek run shows up about 8/10 times whereas the outcast (rhea's crater) run for me is about 6/10 times. Pongmei is the fastest for me on a consistent basis with generally 4-5 chests in 5 min or less. I dunno why but I have terrible luck with Silent Surf running, so I shy away from it. My favorite run atm though are the runs to the vermin chests in Xaquaang Skyway, and the Am Fah in Naphui Quarter, both coming from Senji's Corner, lots of the rare staves drop from these two places. (props to Yuri for showing me the Am Fah run)

Bukdek run is for Canthan Chest right (so HM only)? Both runs may still be faster than Silent Surf (even considering dry runs). Looks like I'll spend next 400 chests in Rhea's crater to check how fast it is.

If by 'terrible luck' you refer to quality of drops then I agree that drops in NM are poor (dunno about HM). Chest/time ratio is fantastic though. Chests themselves are very easy to get to. I totally skip Afflicted area and area around Island Guardian boss and run only through jade. Usually there is 1 'outcast' chest, 1-2 'fish' chests and 1-2 'dragon' chests (rarely one 'plagueborn' chest or 'oni' chest).
I use heroes and pack them with Charge/Incoming/Fall Back/Can't Touch This. Constant 33% IMS is good. Shadow of Haste helps too.

Where can you get Kappa Shields? Wiki says only the undercity, but I'm not so sure... anyways.

I would also appreciate if anyone came up with a map of the best chest run for such an item!

Man. Recently returned to GW after years of inactivity. Have my toon AFK'ing on Shing Jea island to bump lucky title to R4 by the time the event's over. All these guides and tips have me excited to begin chest-running. Only problem is my warrior which I plan to use to do silent surf runs just got to Kaineng. It'll take me some time to rune up and equip all my heroes.

If you're gonna run Silent Surf, I'd say heroes are more of a liability than a great help, because running that often consists out of squeezing through mobs etc, something heroes are rather bad at.. I always run/ran Silent Surf alone, because it was more convenient.

Oh, I know. I meant equipping my heroes so that I can finish all the missions in under the time allotted for masters reward in normal mode. I've never been much of a runner, so I'm going to guess it'll be a lot of trial/error. I don't care about getting super good drops, which leaves me with doing Silent Surf in normal mode. Hoping I can max out treasure hunter and lucky title by the time GW2 is out. My main character still has some cartography, vanquishing, and sweet/drunk titles to finish up. Wish I hadn't deleted long ago.

So ive got about a week between school sessions to do some chest running, out of all the spots which do you think would be the best to do 500 or so picks? I was thinking Morostav Trail

i am going for unlucky as well as chest runner, so wondering if it is worth it running the canthan areas in nm? are only hm drops worth the bother?

Nah the drops in HM aint any diff from NM.. however if you chest run in NM you can't get elite tomes drop.. which sucks major balls! You can make boat-loads of money back from elite tomes which makes HM much more economical! HM obv drops way more gold items too.

You'll break a ton more lockpicks in HM too & that'll boost ya unlucky title.

Hf chest runnin'

not sure about that, because you get more unlucky points when you break a pick in nm than in hm, plus i will need less gold for picks with higher retain rates, so maybe it is better just to run in nm :P
tnx anyway

I promise you running in HM will pay for lockpicks in spades. Since starting to chestrun beginning of this year, I haven't had to "come out of pocket" for picks since the initial 80=100k I paid for. This is mostly due to selling the elite tomes I got from running, but in between there have been big boosts to my income from selling nice drops I've gotten along the way (i.e. a q9 20/20 (mixed mod) outcast staff for 35e, and other nice drops). In case you are wondering how often elite tomes drop, they average about 1:15chests for me, give or take. The other day, I ran the bukdek plagueborn chest and got 6elite tomes in an hour. If you are worried about pick prices, keep an eye out while in kamadan (or other "big city") until a town-owning guild comes recruiting, snag an invite then load up on a few stacks of picks. That will save you enough and keep you busy earning money to buy your next stacks free Regarding unlucky title, I'm working on mine too, and I've gone from about 150k UL to almost 300k in the span of a few months of chestrunning an hour per day, give or take, which is plenty fast for me. I think I'm getting about 28 pts toward UL per broken pick now, although I had gym teachers for match so I could be entirely wrong Gl and hf!

Well since the end of march I've opened 9000~ HM chests (give or take) & my unlucky title is virtually maxed. I started off with barely r1 unlucky. So that was 2 titles in 1.

Yea you get less points for breaking LP's in HM but you break more.
You get more points for breaking in NM but you break less.
It pretty much evens itself out on average.
The optimum is probably like 50% retain rate I would guess.. but you can't have a 50% retain rate because opening in NM you will level your lucky & treasure titles very fast which will mean you will inherently have a huge retain rate - like 70%+..

You will use less lockpicks to get your title by opening in NM but it will cost you more since you wont make any money back except vendoring stuff & the odd rare drop. Where-as HM you will make all your money back from elite tomes.. thus it will cost you nothing.

this, people should know this by now.

elite tomes average out for 1:10 gold items for me having 40% retain also helps alot, id say hm all the way in factions areas unless your hunting for an elusive req8 which is almost unheard of nowadays.

Question. With SF no longer blocking physical damage, is there another build I can use for Mirror of Lyss? What's a good Pongmei valley build I can use? Anyone have a map I can follow for that one?

SF still keeps you alive easily, don't worry, it's still pretty good for running. I would however NOT advise you to run in MoL because it's NF, and any chestrun outside of Cantha is completely redundant..

For Pongmei: if you take heroes, you can do the run without actually activating skills.. I'll upload my build later on..

The route depends on what chests you want. I'll post possible routes as well later on, as I don't have time atm^^

route/chest spawns

equipment
full blessed, superior shadow+headpiece, vitae runes/attunement your choice

skills i use are:

shadowform
i am unstoppable[optional]
cant touch this[optional]
dash
dwarven stability
dark escape
shadow sanctuary
feigned neutrality[optional]

optional skills:
natural stride -switch to /r
fallback
shadow of haste
shadow shroud
deaths charge
heart of shadow
or whatever you feel is necessary

notes
bring 7 heroes preferbably 3-5 with paragon / warrior shouts for ms boost, mostly for the constant 33% and meat shields, doesnt matter if they die at the start, build can handle with ease

put sf on when running into plagueborn or wallows probably the only thing that can come close to kill you

use cant touch this against wallows

undergrowth/wallow, use iau, keep ds up, use darkescape to bait his wild blow, then hit dash and break agro

and i suggest paragon so u can bring a shield

i suggest my set of skills

runs should average 3-4 minutes

can get 4-5 chests in 2 mins with good spawns

run should easily be done in under 5 mins

you can always just sprint to tanglewood and go for echo chests only, but id probably go for am fah and jade brotherhood chests aswell

happy hunting
Found a few pages back, this one is pretty good and detailed, very good route.

Been running naphui quarter explorable a lot lately HM. I think that place is a sup vigor factory. I've had five sup vigs in the last few weeks vs like 2 in 3 yrs of just playing the game! I go a/d with whirling charge for a 33% ims. Otherwise basic sf runner. Xaquang skyway no longer gives me bodyblock issues with using deaths charge to target the outermost foe which puts me in the clear. Also using a q5/13 tac insc shield with +10vs slashing and sabotuer armor I can tank all of them anyway including shreader. Been getting some good celestial stuff from there lately. A friend showed me the drazach thicket run too which has been fun. Basically I leave from eternal grove and follow the left and middle left DTSC paths. Been good for some nice skinned shields of course none dual mod yet but w/e. Learned a lot from this thread Ty for all your input

a few incomings would be better then just pure charge, more hp regen, should put a couple of brace yourself in there aswell and stand your ground on those heroes, dont need to stack all similar bars lol.

i usually take 1 nuke hero with some aoe when i dont run shadow step to break agro if you get surrounded

still looking for that fab dual-mod echo shield! started running morostov trail recently, and found that it has the highest percentage drop of rare shield skins in my experience so far since starting to run (about 4k chests since January)...drazach thicket runs second, but xaquaang still my fav spot to run since i can do it while watching tv

will do tonite (GMT-7), I'm on a non-gw comp atm. Pretty straightforward though, I basically just run to the right out of vasburg and kind of do a figure-8 and back (makes sense if you see the map). The only monster I try to avoid is the fungal wallow as I don't have Can't Touch This! on my sin (they are usually fighting other mobs as i run past anyway). Timing the use of IAU is key, as the wardens will constantly kd you without it. I use the following build (sry but can't get the code atm):

deadly paradox, shadow form, shroud of distress, dark escape, IAU, death's charge, feigned neutrality, heart of shadow

Staying alive is pretty easy even if you find yourself out of energy for dp/sf combo, as long as you have the 5 pips for feigned neutrality until energy regens (and keep SoD maintained)

fwiw -- I wear saboteur's armor and run a/w so i can spec tac for my q5t/13 vs slash, -2/ench shield, and use +5e one-hand (axe). I take a full group of h/h with 5 /p and /w heros for redundant fallback, incoming and charge, others are for healing...kind of doesn't matter after about 1/5 of the run as they are all dead by then, lol.

There can be more than 1 chest. There can be a chest in the area with the Avalanche and Pinesouls. That's as far as I used to go. There can be 0-3 chests.
For treasure hunter title, the beginning of Cathedral of Flames almost always has 1 or 2 chests. Check the chestrunner thread in the farming section.

Do you have the survivor title yet? If not, you could do Kilroy's for it, and every run you have the chance to open a chest (99% of the time you get to open a chest, rarely a chest spawns behind a wall and you can't reach it). Plus you get a drink at the end of the run.

Boreal is quite easy and you can get 0-3 chest on the zone till the 1st aloe pop up. The position of the 1st chest can also be an indication if there are more spawned nearby. If it's too far from the little hill with the path split the one on the curve won't probably be there.
In terms of inscriptions the measures and the occasional -5/20, perfect "forget me not" and "aptitude not attitude" can get you a return of around 50% on the lockpick cost. You can increase it to at least 80% if you salvage the mods and have a little patience selling them.
That's at least how i did it without farming too much for the 1st few batch of lockpicks to get the hunt started.
As usual don't forget to use regular ID kits, you'll save a ton of money on the long run.

imo the chest in the norn alemoot is the easiest. specially on a female char:

Enter the alemoot, walk to where nulfasta would spawn normally and open chest (no foes on the way, and pack your build with running skills)
