Colossal Scimitar...same fate as Dead Sword?

Not what I meant It's in reference to those who feel that the changes ANet has made by making some of these 'rare' skins attainable by your average player on her/his own is ANet's way of handing out weapons that the farmer deems only be obtainable by them. I've read many many posts regarding this subject, and you know what? 90% of them all aren't miffed about the fact that they themselves have a unique skin unlike someone else, but rather how much money they won't be making now that they're more common. Sad really.

What if Rarity is removed from GW. Lets say all the items and weapons is now only white color but the only difference is the skins and design. Would it still be selling at 100K+ whatever amount of ectos if the Rarity system is removed?

So stop beating a dead horse. If you done everthing like you said you did, quit the game. No point in pushing something on and on forever, better quit now then to play to the point where you will get sick of the game.

Guildmaster Cain, how am I whining when I disagree with other people that who in reality are the ones whining because they invested a large sum to obtain the scimitar which now cost considerably less? In a way they paid for what they got.

What I dislike is people telling others that they don't deserve a scimitar or not. When people say "Oh I deserve the scimitar because I spent 3 days killing for it, while you just bought yours" it irritates me.

Whoever is quoting me and trying to make me look contradictory, if you read the few posts before, you would know what I meant was that two people can use different ways to reach a same goal. And a point to note, Anet is trying to get rid solo farming/botting, right?

- I don't "attack" someone personnally, I just want to share my opinion and see how that person reacts or justifies his or her argument.

No, they didn't. They got screwed, plain and simple. There are many analogies I could relate to this, they're not hard to think up.

They've only announced that they want eliminate bots.

The borked drop rate is an entirely different matter. Yes, we know that the chance of good drops decrease over time, but we were told it wouldn't.

I wouldn't say they got screwed, if they are willing to spend a large amount of money for one item, they must have more where that came from, if they don't, thats where they prolly got screwed, their fault really...

The reason the Dead Sword dropped in price was because Nightfall was still fairly new. And it's not just the Dead Sword that seemed rare, nearly every weapon out of Nightfall was priced at over 100k near the time of release.

Eventually, over the months, it was safe to establish what was rare and what was common. It was discovered that the Dead Sword was fairly common much like other NF skins. The other skins, such as Colossal Scimitar and Elemental Sword, were still very hard to find, even after numerous accounts of farming. Thus, it was safe to conclude that these items were indeed very rare and would cost a lot.

Then comes Hard Mode, farming nerfs, AI tweaks, etc. Colossal Scimitar drops increased dramatically. They were no longer rare and now cost around 40k or so. Compared to the original 100k + 80 ectos they used to go for, that's a lot of cash to lose.

Regardless of how much money they have, no one likes getting screwed over. It was safely presumed that these items were high-end. The buyers are not held accountable in anyway for losing so much money. It's not their fault.

People were farming Colossals before HM was introduced in Daijak Inlet and Moddock (for max dmg versions). There were people that were making a absolute killing off these before HM was even an issue.

There were even people farming non-max version on Istan before HM was introduced and selling those ones for insane amounts of plat.

You cannot fault people for buying these items when they were considered rare. I do feel sorry for those that paid 100k+500ecto for a Q9 max one before HM, but I do not feel sorry for those that didn't sell them immidiately when HM was introduced to cut their losses.

Corsairs have always dropped Colossals.

High level Corsairs only existed in Moddock and Daijak Inlet before HM and were not easily farmable/accessible.

No one individual or forum post killed Colossal prices. HM did. I was not Anet's intention to purposely kill the price of this "rare" item. It just happened this way because of the way HM was designed (higher level mobs).

Who cares about Colossals anyways? Is it really worth arguing over? The damage is already done at this point and seeing how they let Dead Sword farming go on I don't think it's going to get nerfed/changed.

the only reason we need rare items is so we can get a thrill when one drops. Who cares if it cant be sold for 600k, If nothing costs over 100k (as Anet intended in the first place) then a rare that sold for 40k would be a cool find indeed. Anet isnt ruining the economy, its just about under control IMO now we need more cool greens and blues (IDS anyone) from time to time to be dropped into the game between expansions..

Really? So you actually think that ANet had no idea what they were doing when they limited the drop rates of gold r8 15^50 Crystalines/Dwarvens/Serpents to almost non-existent levels? You think they truly did not realize that those items would be limited to the extremely wealthy and the extraordinarily lucky? For some reason I don’t think they created GW without first knowing exactly what goes on in an economy based game like this.

Not to be for nor against anything you've said, but simply asking:

How do people that buy new technology the instant it's released to the public feel when they pay 1000% more than what it goes for a year later? Or a new 2008 vehicle that sells for a fraction the next year? No one got 'screwed'. Infact, had they waited, eventually they could have had their own, without spending an unreasonable amount of money for it. Sometimes, you have to pay for impatience, and, well, this is what they've done. Equate it to fault, or don't, but they made the decision to do so, and the farmers were more than happy to oblige them with overpriced items and an opportunity to have what they, the farmers, shouted out as rare and hard to find items.

Farmers spend hours trying to get these so-called rare weapons, with specific builds to do so, spending time after time in the same area, stopping just long enough to get a drink, use the restroom, and maybe eat inbetween.
This change doesn't make the average player have to do any less. Spending 3hours in one area on hard mode, with a regular sized group, with a very small chance of getting what you want I'd say is still pretty laborious. There will still be buyers for your rediculously overpriced items - you just have to compete with a larger commercial (rather than consumer) crowd now.

With the months and months of testing before GW was released to the public. I am 100% sure that they would have realise how easily obtaining 100k+ is.

It is rediculous to suggest Anet could not foresee that items which drop like once a year would not fetch 100k+. Especially when Anet created 15k armour which is a "middle of the range" set thus suggesting 100k + for items would occur.

I'm sure they'd feel pretty crumby, of course. I've never heard of anyone being jipped that badly, would you be able to provide an example?

As for newer cars, the price goes down because the demand goes down. There's always newer and cooler cars being produced, so eventually a few will go out of style. It's all about looking cool.

The analogies are a little tricky and depend on a lot. A person may need a car, so they really won't care about price in the long run (unless you buy a really damned expensive car, in which case, they need to get their priorities straight).

The analogies also depend on salary, supply and demend, hablahblahlbalhbha I don't want to waste anymore of your time, it'll take too long...

Here's one big difference I will mention, however: Cars have a big supply, Colossal Scimitars don't.
