I actually think that attaining some sort of weapon that increases in grandeur after you beat EOTN would be quite nice. You do quests that increase the power of your chosen weapon one that is crafted for you over a set of quests / missions. Then at the end you have named it and when EOTN is over its placed in the Hall of Monuments.
This way you get a nice weapon that can be earned later in GW2 that allows people from GW1 to have a unique bit of their older character. And it doesn't have to be some epic weapon, just an uncommon rated or rare.
Idea - REAL Green Weapons

I agree with this idea on one things, all requirements should be correct, for example, a shield should only be able to have a paragon or warrior requirement, a bow only ranger requirements, etc.
I would love this, though you shouldn't be able to choose extremely rare idea's though, that would make getting rare weapons to no point.

Question: Why is Setikor Fireflower...basically a lump of hovering driftwood, worthy of a green weapon and we're not, bearing in mind we've saved three continents from a massive evil? |
You can choose which item you want to get, and then go for it... or be lucky and get ii playing normally. But you don't decide it's properties.
If you choose the properties, the item is not green.
Al the fire Excepters of the Forgotten Ones are the same, al the Totem Axes are the same, all the Shiro's Daggers are the same.
If you can choose such thing can't be green.
I don't mind lletting people have a skin and fixed mods for free. But not in a green, in any case, such thing would be gold.

But then why should it not be Green...? Green weapons are, after all, "unique". Guildwiki defines Green items as "Unique" and gold items as "Rare"...if the item were gold it would imply it was possible to get two "Dragon Lord's Sword of Death"...when, if the name of the weapon could only be used once, you couldn't. Tormented weapons are gold because it is possible to get more than one "Insightful Fast Casting Tormented Staff of Fortitude". I know that there are millions of Scar Eaters around and the "uniqueness" of green items dropped by bosses has a very fluid meaning, but taking "Green items = Unique" literally, the endgame items I describe, imo, should be green.
I very much doubt anything like this is going to come about in any case...
... But I still reckon it should do.... provided the price is high to stop people abusing it.
Even so, I'd probably be inclined to spend TONS of cash kitting out my heroes with unique greens as well... even at 50k a weapon... at least for my main charater. No more "Ghial's Staff" for Olias.... no.... he'd have his very own "Olias's Staff" with a Zodiac Staff skin.... and I'd give Sousuke a Celestial Staff skin.... and.... and...
*Coughs*
Yeah.... abusable it would be, but only to those with sh!tloads of cash. And non-sellable of course.

Having low-req weapons doesn't really mean squat to normal players; only to those oddballs who spread their attributes thin and insist on milking as much damage as they can from a weapon they're not even willing to invest the attribute points for.
The only real difference is between Req 12 and Req 13 weapons... since a Req 13 weapon is only really valuable to someone with the necessary Primary Class.
O'course this is assuming the character is level 20....
Lower req weapons are for lower level characters.

I like the idea of customizable weapons available to players. For mainly 2 reasons.
1. I craft ALL of my weapons because I have found that I can make one identical to any weapon in the game(not including the skin). More often than not my weapons exceed the specs of end-game "prizes" and Boss drops.
2. The drop rate in this game has been so messed up that it is nearly impossible to come up with the pieces to craft weapons for your primary characters and all of their heroes simply thru drops alone.
The fix to the PvP concern is easy and may very well work to secure the economy as well. All that has to be done is designate the items as "non-allowable" in PvP and "non-tradable" between accounts. This can be done by simply "tagging" them with a different color, say RED. TADA! They work only in PvE and can still be used on all characters on a given account.
As far as naming goes, simply allow only the option to attach the character's name to the item. The base item name had to be selected from a list of existing names from the game database. The same would apply for the attributes.
With ANET enforcing the EULA, misuse or abuse in names would be self-correcting.
I personally hope that ANET truly considers this. I for one was seriously let down when I saw the list of available end-game items in Factions and the cost Vs. quality of the end-game items in NF.

/signed, with the following changes:
1. the special smith that performs this service ONLY appears at the endgame area of GWEN, and no other campaign.
2. for a reasonable fee, this smith will take a gold weapon already in your possession and make it into a green weapon.
3. the weapon's damage will max (if not already, most golds are) requirement will drop (or rise) to 9, and it's equipped prefix/suffix/inscription will be perfected.
4. the weapon's name will change to [character name]'s [type of weapon]. it's dyed color will remain unaffected.
5. as a tradeoff, the weapon's gold value drops to that of a green, its mods can no longer be salvaged, and (if it wasn't already) the weapon is customized to that character and cannot be transferred.
6. this weapon would then become eligible for display in the Hall of Monuments.
7. centuries later in GW2, this weapon becomes a generic "Rusted Heirloom" quest item, which your toon in that game can take to another special smith for repair. He won't be able to restore it to its GW1 appearance and/or stats, but he can fashion it into a special high-end weapon with a GW2 skin.

Anyway, I agree that if they're customized and can't be sold or traded, /signed. I wonder if we could draw out our own ideas and come up with names and such for them and post them somewhere on the forum. I don't know if that's allowed but I think it would be cool.
/signed, but I'd prefer if the items stay within the balancing system, not spread out to give everyone shields. If you could make a q9 protection prayers shield, that - to me is unfair considering the only two original professions to have shields are warriors and paragons. They still use shields today, and without the max requirement, I think it still provides +4 AL.
Why not just create a system where you can "Name" your own weapons at any weaponsmith?
For a cost of around 1 platinum the weaponsmith would not only customise the weapon for you but allow you to name it ~ up to a certain number of characters ~ This naming process would be monitered in the same way as character naming is monitored to avoid the inevitable rudeness ~ It would not damage the economy, acting as a money sink in fact. The weapons customised in this way cannot be traded or sold to merchant, the stats will also become fixed (in the case of inscriptions prefixes and suffixes). That way they will obviously adhere to the current game mechanics. The weapon could become a "Green" at this point although a different colour may be more appropriate.

Ok i have seen cross requirment things like a staff (req 9 healing) + 1 death,
esp in tyria.
next, the whole killing the market thing, ummm no it would not. It would be end of game, so you have to defeat the game to earn them, so you have prob already bought a weapon or two from someone, or farmed them. next it is NOT tradeable. The OPs idea is strong in this point.
now to my favorite part
/signed very good idea.
I dont know if I want the whole char name at the front of it. Mines kind of long and would eat up the char limit. Now Nighteyes Wrath (daggers) would make me a happy sin.

id like to add a twist too this idea..because this could ruian the market of weps...u take it to a wepon renamer and you can rename it anything you want and you could then take your wepon to another person where you modify only THE APPEARANCE...in this process the powers of the weapon are never modified but you can still make it your own
also for anyone who thinks this wouldnt affect the wep market it would...why buy a wep when u can make one youself obviously this would have to be perfected
