Legendary Survivor - the safe, easy and quick way to XP farm the title

Thanks for getting the guide back up quickly, it went down just as I decided to go for it =P
jhu
makes a fairly decent hard mode farming build almost anywhere. i've used this to mass murder kournans (although technically they all committed suicide) to get a fiery gladius. so far no luck with a max inscribable fiery gladius drop...

Thanks for getting the thread back up!
I practically bought proph just for the skills needed. :P
Question: Is it worth it if you don't have HM? Also, I'm not level 20 yet... should I risk the attempt?

Question: Is it worth it if you don't have HM? Also, I'm not level 20 yet... should I risk the attempt? You need to be level 20 in the first place to access Hard Mode. You also need to have the game (Factions) completed at least once on any of your characters on your account.
It's well worth the risk. In fact, it's not even close to "risk", because of all the extra Health and Enchantments. Doing everything in Hard Mode after reaching level 20 is the way to go, it's much faster than in Normal Mode.

Thanks for the response.
I meant is it worth the risk for ME, a level 15 monk, to farm it in normal mode to GET to level 20. I plan to farm in NF hard mode/beat Factions while on my way to getting LS. Oh, and maybe a little FFF...

That's like... around 13 hours a day. WOW.
Well, reached the farming spot... went from level 14 to level 16.5 in a short amount of time.
Made a VERY rookie mistake that almost killed me. I walked away to aggro the second 3 knights with about 3/4's hp, went out of symbiosis' range and dropped to 12 HP! How about that for cutting it close?
And any tips for aggroing both groups at once? The second group always seems JUST out of sym's range, and I don't want to be attacked while not under its effect. Plus, sometimes a knight will run paste and hack my spirit. That was another close call... Level 15, 6 lvl 20's surrounding you, and no symbiosis...

Cast Prot Spirit and Bond then go to the left and come back around to the left. recast bond during that if need. If you computer is laggy...don't do this

Bah, died... level 18 almost. Oh well. Only bad thing is he started in NF, so he had probably 2-3x as much time put into him as a Canthan native.
*shrug* Time to restart with an Ele. I didn't like monks, anyway.. Too hectic to play pve with for me.
Edit: Don't get me wrong, it's effective and ALMOST foolproof. I say almost because I died when Symbiosis went out, didn't notice it blinking. >_<

I've been trying to figure out a decent R/Mo bar and ended up just going with Monk Smiting skills because Ranger ones looked like turd in comparision.
I considered the Serpent's Quickness + Whirling Defense option, but didn't see the point of the extra blocking when most of your damage comes from the smite bonds and healing comes from Spirit Bond - both rely on you actually getting hit.
How effective is WD at applying additional damage to the Jade Knights?

I actually brought whirling incase I messed up, it saved me a couple times in the beginning when I was new to the run, sometimes I would hit SB before it was over and would be taking hits with no SB. I kept it just incase, better safe than sorry.
Serpent's was for when I occasionally agro'd both groups at once, sometimes they would get 10 hits before the recharge of SB. It only happened for 4-5 seconds before 2-3 broke off and stood there doing nothing, but I wasn't running symbiosis, so I felt safer having the faster recharge, around 1 second.
Zojun's was just to get back to the gate faster, it was a run skill I already had unlocked and didn't feel like getting a better one.
I didn't really feel the need to bring extra damage skills, the smites killed them in 3 casts of SB so I went with extra defense in case I messed up really bad.

I figured out a quite easy way to kill the ritualists being R/Mo (I always do the hard run because it's a bit more interesting not to kill only those 6 knights...).
Ranger / Monk - some additional information
[skill]Broad Head Arrow[/skill][skill]Rapid Fire[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Spirit Bond[/skill][skill]"Finish Him!"[/skill][skill]Life Attunement[/skill][skill]Vital Blessing[/skill][skill]Essence Bond[/skill]
Template Code: OgMT847kZyViCseQLKmkeIkQfAA
Description of the "unknown" skills:
Rapid Fire
"Finish Him!"
Attributes
Protection Prayers 12
Marksmanship 12
Expertise 3+1+3
Equipment
You should use a short bow! It worked quite fine for me with Ryver's Shortbow.
- a bow (and a staff for some +energy when not fighting a ritu if you want)
- some low defense armor
- attunement runes
- radiant insignia
Tactics to get rid of those ritus
This should be used with a Healer, Smiter and R/N BiP hero.
First, kill all the jade brotherhood guys as usual.
Then daze the ritualist with the elite skill and use rapid fire. In that way, the bow's attack speed is decreased to 1 second but the ritualists cast times increased to 2-4 seconds, so it's quite easy to interrupt the ritualist's healing attempts just by shooting. If you are doing this when the ritu is the last enemy standing, you don't even need to recast spirit bond/protective spirit; the regeneration of the enchantments should be enough to heal you.
Recast rapid fire when you just interrupted the ritu's heal spell, then shoot once or twice to interrupt his next attempt and use broad head arrow again. "Finish him!" can be replaced by any other skill, it's just used for killing the ritu a little bit faster and not necessary at all. I hope this is idiot proof.
Note: You shouldn't pull more than one ritualist / I doubt that the monk boss can be killed in that way. They've got too much healing power.
You can replace the R/Mo build in your farming guide here by mine if you want, Antithesis (SoJ is quite useless because the knockdown makes the ritu take less dmg from the smiting bonds). I'd recommend to do so. It's even faster not to use SoJ for the easy run.

great guide, but are you wearing max armor(60AL) for Hardmode run(the long one for me/mo or mo/me)? or is it best to wear starter armor? (5AL)
Thanks alot
Edit: nevermind figured it was with low armor.
And! agrhh i died at 790k exp

I think it is mentioned somewhere in his guide. The lower your armor level is, the more dmg will you get and the more dmg will you deal to the enemies due to the smiting bonds.
edit: Btw, my monk died at 260k and my ranger at 750k.... but i can't remember when this should have happened -.-
I realized that my monk's title had gone when he's already had 360k... *sigh*

YAY, My mesmer is just out Pre-Searing. I'm quite a stubborn and I wanted to do all the quests before I left Pre-Searing, and get a Belt Pouch. Now my mesmer is lvl 7.5, after doing all the quests. I also bought 30 armor. Now I'll try to find a runner to LA, but a guildie will help me I hope .
EDIT: OK! Now I've got the heroes from Elona and I'm in The Marketplace, but I'm only lvl 7. How should I train to lvl 20 without risks?

great post.
im trying with my mo/e right now. prot and earth magic were made for eachother.
Sliver armor ftw!!
Once i get out of factions i plan on farming either the academy or gates of kryta missions in hardmode. both also quick with lots of enemies
academy = 20+charr in 5-6min
gates = 40+ undead 4-5min

This type of guide takes the whole sense of achievement out of the title.
It's a good title and does not deserve to be earned with mindless XP farming, imo.
I have 6 chars with survivor 3 (another one with lvl2, lagdeath ftl -.-) and did not do any XP farming whatsoever. I did quests, main missions and capped elites.
And none of them took longer than 80hrs to complete, varied between 40-70hrs.
And I am proud about doing it this way, I played the game.
Thankfully, others know it is very good title and it is hard to get if you play the game, that's why I got several pm's ingame after I reached it on my last char, my Derv, too.
GG. Don't be surprised to be frowned upon by those that earned it the honest (honorable?) way.

GG. Don't be surprised to be frowned upon by those that earned it the honest (honorable?) way. Pffftt....how on God's green earth is anyone ever going to know your title is farmed?!?
I still haven't put the last part of the guide back up which included a section on criticisms of the build. I answered the critics simply by stating my main toon pre-dates the Survivor title, and with over 2000 hours under his belt i'm not going to recreate him for one additional title. So i farmed the title with another character to get the Hall of Monuments bonus for GW2.
Don't like it, don't do it I'll take one day of dull, repetitive farming over two to three weeks of dull, repetitive questing any day of the week. And i'll have 7 Legendary Survivors in the time it takes you to get one ...then i can fart-arse around as much as i like completing the rest of the game, safe in the knowledge my title isn't at risk due to an incompetent PuG, a bad spawn or lag.
Nice job on the 6 survivors, but i have better things to do than waste an extra 60 hours per character to get the title "ethically". If you play the game for the ingame PMs you're playing GW for the wrong reasons. I play the game for fun, not an over-inflated sense of self-importance.

Sliver armor ftw!! I've considered trying the hard run with a Mo/E with [skill=text]Spell Breaker[/skill] and Sliver Armor. Or maybe an E/Mo with [skill=text]Obsidian Flesh[/skill] with Glyph of Swiftness and Sliver Armor. Spell Breaker and Ob Flesh *could* be useful to avoid the Mesmer interrupts that are the main cause of death on longer runs.
[edit] Spell Breaker is linked to Divine Favor so it's only potentially useful for a Monk. And if you're a Monk, Mo/Me is a better option for [skill=text]Mantra of Resolve[/skill].
OF+SA is ok on the Easy, Medium & Hard runs, as long as OF doesn't get interrupted. Ultimately, OF+SA is pretty useless because you can't consistently kill the Rits...but you could just log out at that point.
Better off running the generic smite build on longer runs (or even better the Mo/Me or Me/Mo), but Sliver Armor can be used to good effect on the Easy Run.

Repetitive questing? Once a quest is done it is done. No repeating it....
ALL my Survivors were done over a weekend-period, not 2-3 weeks.
AND I do it alone, you cannot trust PuGs regardless or have the chance of a guildie lagging out.
Where you see 60 hours as a waste, I see skill.
Playing the game for ingame PMs, how daft can you be? Ok, nvm.
The ingame PMs were a nice surprise, which made the achievement even better. I doubt a farmer would feel the same, which is evident.
PS> My main char is also 2000+ and of course don't have Survivor, so not too sure what you trying (fail) to state.

My guess is you couldn't work out how to get the LS title quickly after weeks spent mindlessly trudging through mission after mission innumerable times with your cookie-cutter Searing Flamers or Minion Masters (which takes a HUGE amount of skill to run, GG). You realise there must be an easier way than hiding behind your henchies, avoiding difficult encounters and farming Elite skill caps, so you find yourself on this thread seeking the wisdom of others. You're shocked to find out someone's worked out how to farm your precious title in less than 10 hours, so you disparage those who shared a more efficient means to an end Tut tut tut...play nice or mummy will take your modem away.

Ah...that's kinda the point of the guide, so your average player can snag the title easily, quickly and safely...nice detective work there Sherlock!Quote:
Now who's putting the ASS in assumption. So what you're saying is "I am rubber, you are glue!" Well played Sir, i tip my hat to you

There are greater achievements in life than having one's e-peen stroked.
Just because you couldn't do it the skillful way and had to flag your H&H to do your work, and still couldn't do it (hence this guide)

3 day weekends...i wish i was so lucky and didn't need to sleep, eat, shit, shower, shave, work & socialise. Sounds like you're leading quite the highlife.
I was referring to your average title time and the working man's weekend (i guess you don't know much about that judging by your profile) you clever little mathematics type guy. I see you bought a book to work it out...good for you! But there's still only 48 hours in a weekend and 24 hours in a day. You could argue (and i'm sure you'll attempt to) that Friday night is the weekend too, but it still only gives you an extra 5-7 hours. Beats me how you're playing 20-35 hours a day - impressive stuff, your parents must be proud. Quote: |
